TAWAU: Members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have been reminded to refrain from uploading sensitive content on social media, particularly related to security assets, to prevent hostile parties from identifying the nation's defence capabilities. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he was confident that armed forces commanders would issue firm instructions to their personnel to use social media responsibly and avoid compromising national security. 'Sometimes in their eagerness to showcase training or equipment, personnel may unintentionally reveal where such assets are stored. 'This could expose our strengths to those with ill intent,' he told reporters after officiating the Tawau 2025 Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival at the Tawau Sports Complex. Mohamed Khaled was responding to a reminder issued Saturday by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who cautioned military personnel against sharing everything on social media, particularly sensitive information related to troop movements and operations. Meanwhile, he said the Defence Ministry continues to acquire strategic assets annually to strengthen national security. These are not off-the-shelf purchases, he stressed, but custom orders tailored to the MAF's operational needs across land, air and sea to ensure suitability and effective deployment. 'We have already procured 18 FA-50 aircraft from South Korea, three Littoral Mission Ships and are continuing construction of the Littoral Combat Ships, alongside radar purchases to bolster national defence,' he said. Mohamed Khaled added that the ministry is also in the process of replacing the static Tun Sharifah Rodziah forward operating base with a more modern and mobile base better suited to current operational demands, expected to be completed next year. Commenting on ongoing global conflicts, including in Ukraine, Gaza, Iran-Israel, and India-Pakistan, he said these developments highlight the importance of Malaysia prioritising the acquisition of technology-driven defence assets. 'We are also aware of ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, which remain a serious concern. Govt open to factual criticisms of taxation system, says Anwar
PUTRAJAYA: The government is ready to accept any criticism of the taxation system as long as it is based on facts, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said criticisms should be conveyed through the proper channels and not take the form of slander or verbal abuse. "I noticed some university students complaining about the electricity bill adjustment. I don't understand. Electricity rates have not gone up, so is it true they are affected? "If it's true, then we need to fix it because public universities are exempted," he said in his speech at a gathering with Prime Minister's Department staff here on Monday (June 30). "Such matters, when spread in the name of freedom, can become avenues for slander and verbal abuse. "So ... brothers, sisters, younger friends or children, please provide facts. I have no issue with people complaining or offering criticism,' he said. Anwar added that the adjustment of electricity tariffs and the expansion of the sales and service tax (SST) scope are to ensure that those with higher financial means contribute a fairer share, while protecting segments of the population from undue financial pressure. "If possible, we don't want to burden the people with taxes. But if there are one or two cases where people are affected, we can make improvements. "However, to outright oppose the electricity (tariff) adjustment – I think that's not right,' he said. On June 9, the government announced a targeted review of the sales tax rate and the expansion of the service tax scope, which will take effect on Tuesday (July 1). On June 13, the Energy Commission announced that more than 23.6 million domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia will benefit from a fairer and more progressive electricity tariff structure, which has been approved by the government and will be in effect from Tuesday until Dec 31, 2027. – Bernama

PUTRAJAYA, June 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasised that the recently launched Kota MADANI development project is not just about providing housing for civil servants, but is a comprehensive initiative grounded in the values of Malaysia MADANI. Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, said the project represents a strategic effort by the MADANI government to address the housing needs of civil servants who have yet to own a home and are still on waiting lists. 'This is not an ordinary housing project. It offers exceptional comfort with nearby facilities, such as a school, mosque, gymnasium and playground. All factors taken into account, it is a modern city with the MADANI concept,' he said in his address at a meeting with the staff of the Prime Minister's Department today. The prime minister said Kota MADANI is a contemporary development shaped by progressive values and urged civil servants to appreciate these elements as part of their living environment. The Kota MADANI development project in Precinct 19 here, which was launched on June 26, is a mega initiative with the concept of a smart city that is people and environment-friendly. The RM4 billion project will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) through a public-private partnership under the build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) model, without utilising government funds at the initial stage. The Prime Minister also commended Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) for its efforts in having repaired nearly 98 per cent of the damaged civil servants' quarters to date, while acknowledging that demand for housing remains high. At the same time, he criticised politically motivated criticism hurled at the project and called on civil servants and the wider community to view the initiative as a long-term solution. He stressed that the project is designed not to place a direct financial burden on the government, but is instead carefully planned within PPj's management capabilities.

Sabah ADUNs, businessman charged over RM350,000 in mineral license bribery case

Andi, 44, the Tanjung Batu assemblyman and assistant Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, and Dr Yusof, 69, the Sindumin Assemblyman, along with businessman Datuk Tei Jiann Cheing, 37, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga. According to the charges, Andi and Yusof allegedly received bribes from Tei as inducement to facilitate applications by two companies, Syarikat Nusa Kini Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Sinaran Hayat Sdn Bhd, owned by Tei's business partners, for mineral exploration licences in Sabah. Tei faces two charges for allegedly offering the bribes to the two assemblymen for the same purpose.
