Road caves in near condo, Noida says ‘pipeline leak'
Noida: A portion of the road caved in near Meghdootam Park in Sector 50 on Monday evening, creating a deep manhole around five metres in diameter and raising safety concerns among residents here.
Residents in the area and nearby sectors blamed lack of maintenace for the incident. Meanwhile, a Noida Authority official told TOI that "a pipeline leak has led to the collapse".
The traffic movement has been restricted around the affected area — near F-9, close to Overseas Apartment — and officials said that the repair work that has begun was "expected to take two days".
Noida Authority's general manager (jal) RP Singh also said that the road will be repaired in two days.
A pipeline from the nearby sewage treatment plant runs beneath the affected road and the cave-in was "caused by leakage from the rusted and aging pipe", the Noida Authority official said.
General secretary of RWA for Sector 50 (F Block) Rajesh Singh said the area comprises 20 societies with around 7,000 flats, ranging from low-rise to highrise buildings up to 22 floors.
"This route connects several blocks, including F1 through F9, and is heavily used.

Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of neighbouring Sector 51, said he regularly takes this road to reach Meghdootam Park.
"This is not just a small pothole – a portion of the road has caved in. It is a major safety hazard, especially at night," Kumar said, adding, "Anyone could fall in. We use this stretch daily and it should be repaired urgently.

An Air India spokesperson said: 'Upon receipt of the pilot's report, the matter was disclosed to DGCA in accordance with regulations. Subsequently, upon receipt of data from the aircraft's recorders, further investigation was initiated. The pilots have been off-rostered pending the outcome of the investigation.' As part of the fallout from the June 14 occurrence, both pilots were immediately off-rostered, and Air India's head of safety was summoned by the regulator. On June 17, the DGCA had formally expressed concern about 'recent maintenance-related issues' and instructed the airline to enhance coordination across departments — engineering, operations, and ground handling — while reinforcing its focus on safety. Industry insiders say the perception of safety at Air India has changed dramatically. 'Old Air India (PSU time) did not have comfortable planes running on time but safety was never an issue.
