Cecily Strong shows off baby bump at 'SNL 50,' plays pregnant 'Weekend Update' character
The former "Saturday Night Live" star, who is pregnant with her first child, returned to the NBC sketch show for its 50th anniversary special on Sunday. Strong, 41, showed off her baby bump on the red carpet, where she rocked a black dress.
She later appeared on "Weekend Update," and her pregnancy was incorporated into the sketch. The "Schmigadoon!" star reprised her character of the "girl you wish you hadn't started a conversation with at a party," who was rubbing her belly as her segment began and asked, "Notice something different about me?" When "Weekend Update" anchor Michael Che asked if she was pregnant, she shot back, "Wow, you just assume I'm pregnant, just because I have a baby inside me?"
Strong's character wondered out loud if she really wanted to "bring a baby into this world" or if she should "keep her in here for another three-and-a-half years."

The segment then revealed the father of the child was none other than Drunk Uncle, the "Weekend Update" character played by Bobby Moynihan. Colin Jost expressed surprise that Drunk Uncle was going to be a dad, to which he replied, "Hey, if Alec Baldwin can do it."

Strong, who was a cast member on "SNL" from 2012 to 2022, announced in November that she was "very happily pregnant from IVF at 40." In an Instagram post, she said she was "really really hopeful" about getting to meet her "little miss thing" in the spring.
The comedian tied her pregnancy announcement to the November presidential election, which at the time was only a few days away. She wore a "pregnant, pro-choice and proud" shirt in the photo she posted.
"It's kind of insane and scary to disclose all of this," Strong wrote. "But for me - it's much scarier to think about what could happen after Tuesday's election. I currently live in a state where I will be able to receive all the healthcare I may possibly need. But we won't be safe anywhere in the US if there is (a) national ban like the one promised by Project 2025."
Strong joined a long list of "SNL" stars who returned for the star-studded 50th anniversary special. The "Weekend Update" segment also included Bill Murray, who ranked "Update" anchors from worst to best.
"I have to disqualify myself because my entire time here, I was on performance-enhancing drugs," he joked.

Donald Trump still has a political bone to pick with Queen Bey. The president, who has previously voiced criticism of celebrities who showed support for his election counterpart, Kamala Harris, took to social media on Saturday, July 26, to renew his unfounded claim that pop star Beyoncé was allegedly paid $11 million to endorse Harris' presidential bid. In the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, the "Cowboy Carter" songstress made her endorsement of Harris official when she appeared at the former vice president's abortion rights rally in her hometown of Houston in October. She also cleared the usage of her 2016 song "Freedom" for Harris, and the tune became the Democratic nominee's official campaign song. "I'm looking at the large amount of money owed by the Democrats after the presidential election and the fact that they admit to paying, probably illegally, $11 million dollars to singer Beyoncé for an ENDORSEMENT (she never sang, not one note...)," wrote Trump in a fiery Truth Social post, also citing alleged endorsement payments to media mogul Oprah Winfrey and civil rights activist Al Sharpton. USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Beyoncé for comment. "Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them. All hell would break out!" Trump concluded. "Kamala and all of those that received endorsement money BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted! Thank you for your attention to this matter." Trump's digital tirade comes just two months after he accused the Grammy-winning singer and other celebrities of being paid to publicly support Harris' candidacy. In a May Truth Social post, the GOP president announced plans for a "major investigation" into the Harris campaign's celebrity endorsements. The Harris campaign last year rejected a rumor that it paid Beyoncé $10 million for her endorsement that spread on social media shortly after the music star's October 2024 appearance with Harris. Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, also pushed back at the $10 million rumor in a November 2024 Instagram post, calling it "false information" and a "lie." She added that the singer "actually paid for her own flights for her and her team." Bob Odenkirk thinks he was 'too hard' on 'SNL' as young writer: 'This show could be better'
The "Nobody 2" star also tells EW he "would love that opportunity" when asked if there's a chance he'll host the season 51 premiere. Bob Odenkirk has found new respect for Saturday Night Live after leaving the show. While discussing Nobody 2 at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the actor tells Entertainment Weekly that he has gained a better perspective on SNL in the years since he finished his tenure as a writer, which lasted from 1987 to 1991. Although he's previously said that he had a less-than-stellar view of SNL while he worked there, he now realizes that he judged the show too harshly. "I was too hard on the show," he says. "I had a lot of attitude when I got hired there, like, 'This show could be better, this show could be Monty Python, this should be more cutting edge, this should be more dangerous.' And I was frustrated by it not representing purely my point of view. I wanted it to be me, my show." Odenkirk now understands that his desire to personally transform the entire voice of SNL was foolhardy. "It's not my show! It's a show that is shared by everyone who's in that cast, and everyone who's in that writing staff, and it's shared by generations, and not one generation," he says. He continues, "Everybody in America watches it, and it's a reference point for everyone. I think the 50th just made me more aware [than] ever of the amazing work that's been done there." The Better Call Saul star also thinks that he got to write boundary-pushing comedy on a later project. "I think Mr. Show, the show I did with David Cross, I consider my effort to do something edgy and new and try to blast through some barriers and go to another level," he says. Odenkirk also admits that he didn't fully appreciate how SNL's lightning-fast weekly schedule makes its production so difficult. "It's a bigger challenge than I thought it was when I worked there," he explains. "When I worked there I was 25, I was like, 'C'mon, dammit! We can do better! This is easy!' And it literally was the years since I've left that I went, 'Wait a second, that show is almost impossible to do at all.'" Additionally, when asked if he'd consider hosting the show during its upcoming 51st season, Odenkirk responds strongly in the affirmative. "I would love that opportunity," he says. "I have mad respect for the effort of that show, and I would dream of being able to host."Though he's never hosted the show before, Odenkirk says that it remains within the realm of possibility. "There's been conversation about it," he explains. "They don't have me locked out. I'm friends with everybody there, and I know so many of the writers, and I know so many of the actors. PFT Live returns for another season on Monday
We're back. baby. On Monday, the six-week hiatus is over. PFT Live returns. Yeah, I did 28 episodes of #PFTPM during the 'break.' But that was solo. Chris Simms returns for the full, two-hour adventure. We'll be in our usual habitats on Monday and Tuesday. For Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be in Canton, in advance of NBC's coverage of the Hall of Fame game. PFT Live has been around, in one form or another, since January 2011. The two-hour, Simms-as-the-primary-co-host version enters its ninth season. Our primary locations are Peacock (live and on-demand) and SiriusXM 85. Also, the show will be televised on SkySports Mix on Monday at 6:00 p.m. UK/Ireland time. (I'm not sue how long that will last. I am sure I'll be asked that question many times in the coming days and weeks via email.)
