B.C. man scores $1M lottery ticket tagging along on son's coffee run
CTV News10-07-2025
The latest lottery millionaire from B.C.'s Lower Mainland scored his lucky ticket after tagging along on his son's coffee run.
Burnaby resident Han Sim said he purchased the Lotto 6/49 ticket on whim while accompanying his son to Madison Centre, ultimately winning $1 million in the July 5 draw.
Sim said he shared the exciting news with his wife before telling his two sons and his daughter-in-law.
'She was still sleeping,' he told the B.C. Lottery Corporation. 'She couldn't believe it!'
With his sudden windfall, Sim said he can help both his sons with their mortgages. He's also planning to take the whole family on a trip to the Fraser Valley.
'We'll go to Harrison Hot Springs together and have a good dinner,' he said.
The odds of winning the main Lotto 6/49 jackpot of $5 million – which requires matching all six numbers drawn without using the bonus number – are approximately one in 14 million, according to the BCLC.
The odds of winning a guaranteed prize of $1 million or more in the Gold Ball draw depend on the number of tickets sold.
