George Pickens blasts Steelers at training camp, says Cowboys run 'better plays'
On Day 1 of Cowboys training camp, Pickens spoke to reporters during media availability — seemingly taking little shots at his former team along the way, including calling it a 'breath of fresh air' to be in Dallas over Pittsburgh.
When Pickens was asked if he's excited to become more than just a 50/50, jump-ball type receiver in Dallas, Pittsburgh's former wideout took the opportunity to blast the Steelers' offensive play-calling:
'Yeah, I'm definitely excited to run better plays, for sure,' Pickens told reporters, via Joseph Hoyt.
This wasn't the first shot Pickens has taken at his former team since leaving Pittsburgh — as he previously took to social media to call the Steelers the 'cheapest organization' days after being traded to the Cowboys.
The criticisms surrounding Pittsburgh's offensive predictability and poor play-calling are nothing new — but there's hope that Arthur Smith can turn things around in his second year as the Steelers' offensive coordinator.

Paul Skenes dominant again, striking out 9 in 6 innings as Pirates blank D-backs 6-0
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Paul Skenes struck out nine and gave up three hits in six innings, Oneil Cruz and Ke'Bryan Hayes drove in two runs each, and the Pittsburgh Pirates shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second straight game, 6-0 on Sunday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Skenes (6-8) is the first pitcher to have an ERA below 2 through his first 45 starts. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year sits at 1.89 for his career and 1.83 this year, which leads the majors. Skenes is the only starter this season who hasn't allowed a first-inning run. He struck out two in the first, including Geraldo Perdomo, who hadn't fanned in a league-best 39 straight at-bats. Jake McCarthy had a one-out triple in the second, but Skenes struck out James McCann and retired Alek Thomas on a popup to short. Skenes also worked around a leadoff double by Tristin English in the third. Cruz walked leading off the Pirates second and the majors stolen base leader with 34 was off and running when Tommy Pham singled to center field on a 1-2 pitch from Zac Gallen for a 1-0 lead. Gallen (7-12) allowed four runs on five hits in six innings. Arizona scored one run in the three-game series, winning 1-0 in 11 innings Friday night. Key moment Skenes hit Eugenio Suárez with a 3-2 pitch leading off the fourth and McCarthy doubled him to third with one out. Skenes then struck out McCann on three pitches and Thomas on six. Key stat Skenes has allowed one run or fewer in 14 of 22 starts this season after doing it 14 times as a rookie. CBS Sports predicts first Ohio state football loss on 2025 schedule
I predicted every Big Ten's first loss this season ... With conference expansion and an expanded College Football Playoff, the prospects of going an entire season undefeated is becoming an almost impossible task. The best team in the game last year was Ohio State after going on the most impressive postseason run in the sports' history, but even the Buckeyes had two losses before figuring that all out. Big Ten football media days just finished up last week, and with it, we've seen a lot of focus on some Big Ten predictions across local and national coverage, including teams' win/loss records and more. And while Buckeye fans would love to believe Ohio State will go undefeated next season and beat all teams by at least two touchdowns, that's simply not realistic. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford published a piece predicting each Big Ten team's first loss of the 2025 schedule, and OSU fans probably won't like where he believes the Buckeyes will falter for the first time this fall. According to Crawford, he believes Ohio State will lose the season-opener against the Texas Longhorns on August 30. "Two new coordinators. A first-year starting quarterback. A rebuilt defensive front seven. It might take time for the reigning national champions to gel, but there's no easing in -- not with Texas coming to town," wrote Crawford. "The Longhorns also have revenge on their minds after Ohio State kept them out of the title game last year." It's hard to throw too much shade at Crawford for this. Rarely is there a season-opener as challenging as what Ohio State will face when it hosts Texas, but the game is on the banks of the Olentangy in the 'Shoe, so that should give the Buckeyes a significant boost. The game could really go either way, but don't be surprised if the Buckeyes can still take care of business in one whale of a first game of the year. Cowboys HC says newly-signed $52 million player's down year was 'more of a fluke'
Dallas rewards its starting tight end with a $52 million extension as head coach Brian Schottenheimer praises Ferguson's toughness and leadership. The Dallas Cowboys extended Pro Bowl tight end Jake Ferguson with a four-year, $52 million contract extension, which includes $30 million guaranteed. The deal makes the former 2022 fourth-round pick the highest-paid TE in franchise history. The 26-year-old is coming off an injury-riddled season which included an injured knee and a concussion, and saw a decline in his production, finishing with 59 receptions for 494 yards and failing to find the end zone throughout the season. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer made it clear the call to extend Ferguson wasn't about the production, but instead about what the former Wisconsin Badger brings to the team. 'He's a great leader. He's lighter (this season). He's moving around really, really well," Schottenheimer said. "I think last year, you look at the first game against Cleveland, and he gets his knee pretty banged up. And then he's got a concussion mid-season at some point. That's so uncharacteristic of (Ferguson). It was just a year prior, in 2023, when following the departure of Dalton Schultz, the Cowboys moved Ferguson int the role of the full-time starter. In his first season leading th group, Ferguson recorded 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns and was named a Pro Bowl selection. 'I have zero doubts in my mind that his production will get back to where it was the year before," Schottenheimer added. "I think last year was just kind of one of those years that you look back on your career and it was more of a fluke than anything." Now entering his fourth season, Ferguson has become a more vocal and physical presence on the field and in the locker room. The head coach referred to him as an "enforcer," someone who consistently brings the edge and accountability every time he is on the field. '(He's) a really, really good player in this league," Schottenheimer said. "He has always been. He's one of those guys that as a young player, second-year player, there was leadership. He's an enforcer. He's a guy that plays the game the right way. He plays the game on the edge. Now with Ferguson under contract through 2029, the Cowboys hope that his best football is ahead of him.
