Electrician who bit off part of coworker's ear during fight in Singapore gets six months' jail
SINGAPORE: After consuming three cans of beer, an intoxicated electrician got into a fight with a co-worker and bit off part of the man's left earlobe.
Senthilkumar Vishnusakthi, 21, was sentenced to six months' jail on Thursday (July 3) for causing the victim to lose a segment of his earlobe permanently.
Senthilkumar had pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Nesamani Hariharn, 31.
Court documents stated that a drunk Senthilkumar returned to his dormitory in Kallang at around 7pm on Feb 15 and saw Nesamani watching a movie.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ryan Lim said: '(Senthilkumar) began talking loudly about the victim allegedly spying on him and reporting back to their work supervisor about (his) poor work performance.'
Senthilkumar also 'called the victim a 'dog' for following him around', the DPP added.
Nesamani confronted Senthilkumar and they started arguing.
Subsequently, as the victim was walking back to his bed, Senthilkumar punched him.
The two Indian nationals then got into a fight and Senthilkumar bit off part of Nesamani's earlobe.
The other dormitory residents stepped in to restrain Senthilkumar and the police were alerted.
An ambulance took the victim to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was found with injuries including a lacerated ear and facial wounds.
He was given nine days of hospitalisation leave and his wounds have since healed.
For voluntarily causing grievous hurt to another person, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned. - The Straits Times/ANN

Three Indian men were seized during a coordinated attack on the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, the main city in Mali. - Google Street View NEW DELHI: Three Indians working in Mali were kidnapped from a cement factory during a spate of militant attacks this week in the troubled west African nation, New Delhi's foreign ministry said. The men were seized Tuesday (July 1) when "a group of armed assailants carried out a coordinated attack at the factory premises" of the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, the main city in Mali's western region, the ministry said in a statement late Wednesday. It said the gunmen "forcibly took three Indian nationals as hostages". It added the Indian embassy in Bamako was in "close and constant communication" with Mali's government, as well as "the family members of the abducted Indian nationals". India did not give details about the attackers, or say if it was in contact with them. However, it said that "many military and government installations at multiple locations of western and central Mali were attacked by terrorists on 01 July 2025". Since 2012, Mali has been battling an Islamist insurgency that erupted in the north, swept the country and spilled over into neighbouring Burkina Faso and Niger. ‘NoDrug app' delivers nearly 300 tip-offs to Cambodian police in June
Following a complaint through the NoDrug mobile app, these young people were taken into custody for a range of drug-related offences. - NACD via PPP/ANN PHNOM PENH: Members of the public reported 289 drug-related cases in June via the NoDrug mobile application. Authorities are encouraging the public to stop complaining about drug issues on social media and instead report them through the official app. Khorn Darasambath, deputy secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) and head of the 24/7 sub-committee that manages the app, explained that reports from concerned citizens are received every single day. On July 2, he revealed that in the month of June alone, the sub-committee received 289 reports, of which 209 had been resolved. The remaining cases are under investigation, with some of them repeat reports that have already been addressed. From the app's launch on April 23, 2024, to July 2, he added — a period of 436 days — the task force received a total of 1,764 reports, resulting in 1,310 interventions or crackdowns. He explained that once a report is received, the 24/7 command team promptly relays the information to the relevant local authorities for further investigation and action. 'The NoDrug app has become a popular and effective tool for reporting local drug crimes to authorities, in line with the Cambodian government's policy of removing drugs from communities,' the NACD stated, noting that the app is also an efficient and confidential platform for users. Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, chairman of the NACD, has consistently encouraged the public — especially youth — to use the NoDrug app as the 'eyes, nose and ears' of law enforcement by reporting drug problems from their communities. He also noted the app serves as a channel for widespread drug education. He remarked that in the past, some people would raise concerns about drugs in their neighbourhoods on social media. He urged citizens to shift from complaining online to actively reporting drug cases via the NoDrug app, helping to eradicate the issue from the grassroots level. Since the app was launched, almost 50,000 users have downloaded it. Concerned citizens have reported around 1,400 drug-related cases through the app, leading to 1,200 interventions by authorities. In a related matter, authorities in Kampong Cham province, in collaboration with the NACD, incinerated 433 kilogrammes of drugs on June 30, 2025. The destruction event was held to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, under the theme: 'Together, Prevent, Suppress and Eradicate the Root Causes of Drug Problems in Cambodia'.
