The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police began their investigation in February 2022 after receiving the initial complaint. The rape charges involve two women, while the sexual assault charge relates to a third woman. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire issued a statement saying: "He denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further," as quoted by AFP. The Ghana international, who was charged just four days after departing the North London club, is scheduled to appear in court in central London on August 5. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who leads the investigation team, emphasized their priority is "providing support to the women who have come forward." He also encouraged anyone "impacted by the case" or "who has information" to contact the police. Poll Do you believe Thomas Partey should be presumed innocent until proven guilty? Yes No The charges follow a thorough investigation by detectives that began in early 2022 and has continued for three years. Partey was part of Arsenal's squad until July 2025, and last played in the Premier League against Southampton in a 2-1 win for his side back in May. The 32-year-old has also played for Atletico Madrid and UD Almeria in his career. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here . He remains sidelined since undergoing knee surgery in February. 'Unfortunately, injuries have limited Tomi's time on the pitch in the past two seasons, with the defender making just one substitute appearance last season,' Arsenal said in a statement.
