Melaka cops confiscate 351 fake guns in toy store raid
PETALING JAYA : Melaka police confiscated 351 airsoft pistols, worth about RM105,300, in a raid on a toy store at Taman Teknologi Cheng yesterday.
The guns were found in a back room at the store during the 10.20am raid, Berita Harian reported.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police arrested the premises' caretaker, a 42-year-old man, who said the imitation guns were obtained from a northern state for sale in Melaka both online and in person.
'Police will not issue licences for airsoft guns that resemble real weapons as they may be used for robberies and subversive training exercises,' Dzulkhairi told a press conference at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters.
He said the imitation pistols were being sold for RM300 each.
'Tests found that these guns could be fired up to a range of about 10m, and their bullets were capable of injury.
'We do not reject the possibility that these guns have been sold to students.
'There have been cases where teachers found students bringing these guns to school and giving excuses that they were to shoot lizards, dogs and so on,' he said.
Efforts to trace the premises' owner are ongoing.
The case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for owning and importing imitation weapons, which provides for up to a year's imprisonment or a fine of up to RM5,000, upon conviction.

Theft by addicts main factor in index crime spike
ALOR STAR: Theft by drug addicts has become the leading cause of rising index crime rates in Kedah, said police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah. From Jan 1 to yesterday, Kedah recorded 2,852 index crime cases, with 47 per cent involving theft linked to drug addicts, he said. "We must not let our guard down. We are committed to ensuring the country's borders remain secure," he said. Earlier, Adzli attended the rank insignia presentation ceremony for the Kedah police chief and deputy police chief, along with the handover ceremony for the deputy chief post, witnessed by Special Branch director CP Datuk Ibrahim Darus at the police contingent headquarters. Mob killing in Jasin after lewd act, seven arrested in Melaka
ALOR GAJAH: A 51-year-old jobless man died after being beaten by a mob following an alleged lewd act in the parking lot of a Jasin supermarket. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the incident, stating the victim succumbed to severe injuries at the scene. The victim, who had prior records under Section 377D of the Penal Code for public indecency in 2003 and 2024, was said to have committed the act at 7.26 pm before being chased and assaulted. 'The victim attempted to escape, even jumping into a river, but was caught and beaten again,' Dzulkhairi said during an event at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). Seven men, including a Pakistani national, were arrested and remanded for seven days under Section 302 for murder. In a separate case, a motorcyclist in his 30s was remanded for three days after assaulting a man in his 20s during a brawl near Stadthuys. The clash erupted after MBMB enforcement officers fined a group of bikers for violating the Vehicle Free Zone. 'The suspect tore up the summons, leading to a fight where the victim was struck with a helmet and wheel lock,' Dzulkhairi added. Twenty-three individuals were arrested, with 22 released on bail. MCMC probes company over online sale of uncertified communication devices
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a company suspected of selling uncertified communication devices online. In a statement today, MCMC said the probe follows a joint operation with the police under the integrated enforcement initiative Op Taring Bravo 3, which involved multiple enforcement agencies. The operation uncovered 3,837 units of various communication devices, such as wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices and tablets, estimated to be worth RM500,000, which were seized by the police and handed over to MCMC for technical analysis and further review. "These devices are believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC," the commission said. The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. MCMC stressed its commitment to enforcing regulations to safeguard consumers and uphold market integrity. It urged the public to report any information regarding the sale or distribution of such devices through MCMC's official complaint channels or directly to the police. – Bernama
