₹375 crore worth tourism projects sanctioned for A.P. in 2024-25: Union Tourism Minister Shekhawat
In a written reply to the questions by Sana Satish Babu and Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Shekhawat said financial assistance was extended to the State of Andhra Pradesh under Swadesh Darshan (SD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD 2.0), Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan, and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD).
The Minister said funds to the tune of ₹97.52 crore were sanctioned for the Suryalanka Beach project, and ₹29.871 crore for Borra Cave Experience at Araku-Lambasingi under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 in the State for the year 2024-25. Similarly, ₹25 crore each was sanctioned for the projects 'Ahobilam- a Spiritual Odyssey' and for enriching Buddhist heritage and cultural experience at Nagarjuna Sagar, under the CBDD scheme.
The Minister said under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), ₹77.91 crore was allocated for the Gandikota project and ₹94.44 crore for the Akhanda Godavari scheme at Rajamahendravaram. Other allocations included ₹25.33 crore for development of pilgrimage tourism in Annavaram temple town under PRASHAD. Three projects worth ₹124.89 crore sanctioned in the previous year, are in progress.
Mr. Shekhawat said Andhra Pradesh utilised funds to the tune of ₹147.46 crore sanctioned under Swadesh Darshan scheme to develop coastal circuit and Buddhist circuit projects between 2014 and 2018.

Trump had earlier imposed 26 per cent duties on Indian goods, announced in April as part of a broader trade policy initiative. Smart meters won't burden consumers: APSPDCL
The Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) has clarified that the installation of smart meters will not lead to any additional burden on power consumers. Dispelling widespread misconceptions around the meters, which is being discussed widely, Chairman and Managing Director K. Santhosha Rao said that the smart meters installation is part of the union Government's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) which is being implemented across all States. Mr. Rao said: 'The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) had approved the proposals for installing smart meters in the State in February 2021. The smart meters are currently being installed for government and commercial services within the APSPDCL, and for household consumers with high power consumption.' He emphasised that consumers need not pay any fee at the time of installation of smart meters and there would be no along added to the monthly electricity bills. Highlighting the benefits while introducing the 'Smart Meter Consumer App', Mr. Rao said that the app allows consumers to monitor their electricity consumption in real time, getting a chance to regulate usage and bring down their usage charges, apart from receiving regular alerts. India witnessing unprecedented transformation in infra, logistics sectors: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said India is witnessing an unprecedented transformation in its infrastructure and logistics sectors, which is laying a strong foundation for the country's economic development. In a virtual address at the third convocation of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya held in Vadodara, Singh said, 'the stronger the logistics services, the stronger our borders remain. When we deliver defence products manufactured in one part of the country or food supplies for soldiers to the border on time, the morale of the border guards becomes strong.' Describing the logistics sector as a game changer for 21st century India, the Defence Minister said that it has immense opportunities for the youth who will play a key role in building a developed India. He urged the youth to take responsibility in building a developed India. Highlighting the government's initiatives, Rajnath Singh said that initiatives like creating multimodal transport hubs and implementing mission mode schemes have significantly reduced logistics costs and encouraged data-based decision-making. Addressing the event, Union Minister for Railways and Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted the transformational changes that have taken place in Indian Railways in the last 11 years. He informed that in the last one year alone, the rail network has expanded by 5,300 km, with tunnel construction reaching a total of 368 km. He stressed on making India a top economy by building human resources focused on every sector through educational institutions like Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has signed MoUs with about 40 different industrial and educational institutions. The minister also suggested preparing research papers focusing on marine engineering in the future and entering into MoUs with marine industries. Vaishnaw described Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya as the "engine of development" and urged the students to support the vision of a developed India by 2047 A total of 194 students received degrees in various subjects at the convocation.
