Meanwhile, back in 2019, Jussie alleged he was the victim of a hate crime.
He was sentenced to 150 days in jail in March 2022 after being found guilty of lying about being a victim of a racist and homophobic attack and making a false police report, but his convictions were overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court after his legal team lodged an appeal.
Smollett's attorneys claimed that the actor's rights were violated after a special prosecutor decided to retry him, even though the initial charges against him were dropped.
Smollett has always maintained his innocence, insisting "there was no hoax" and that he was the target of a hate crime.

Liam Neeson jokes sex scenes with Pamela Anderson were his favourite part of The Naked Gun

Liam Neeson has joked his favourite part of The Naked Gun was filming "the sex scenes" with Pamela Anderson. The 73-year-old actor stars as Frank Drebin Jr. opposite Anderson as nightclub singer Beth in the upcoming comedy reboot, and Neeson has now teased he particularly enjoyed shooting their love scenes, which were made with the help of an intimacy coordinator. The Sun newspaper reports Liam joked the best bit of the shoot was "the sex scenes", and he added of the intimacy coordinator: "I'd never had one before. "But she was in the background. There was no kind of: 'Ok! Excuse me!'" The publication goes on to report Liam claimed the intimacy coordinator threw her hands in the air and exclaimed: "I can't take this! This is too hot for me. I'm going for coffee." In The Naked Gun - which is a new take on the original Leslie Nielsen 1988 comedy movie - Detective Frank Drebin Jr. (Neeson) takes on his first big case, determined to solve a high-profile murder and save the police department from closure. Following in his father's hilariously clumsy footsteps, he stumbles through outrageous situations while trying to solve the mystery. Neeson recently said he didn't want to 'emulate' Nielsen in the new film, which was directed by Akiva Schaffer and hits screens on 1 August. He told Empire magazine: 'I wouldn't say nerve-wracking, but every day I would go up to Akiva after we wrapped and say, 'How was it?' Because I just didn't know. 'I did not want to emulate the wonderful Leslie Nielsen, but the only thing I grabbed from him, was, 'Be serious. Don't try to be funny. Just stick to being a serious cop who is a bit of a doofus.'' The Taken actor also admitted he wasn't sure if he was funny enough for The Naked Gun - which also stars Paul Walter Hauser and Danny Huston. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Neeson said: 'During the whole shoot - I'm being very honest - I still did not know, when we wrapped at the end of each working day, whether it was working for me. 'Pamela, Paul, Danny, everybody else, I thought, were very funny. I just couldn't put a verdict on myself, on my own performance. 'I'd always ask Akiva, 'Are you sure it's working?' That continued from day one till we finished.''

Lindsay Lohan is determined to be 'fully involved' in her films

Lindsay Lohan aims to be "fully involved" in her movie projects. The 39-year-old actress reprises her role as Anna Coleman in Freakier Friday, the forthcoming sequel to the 2003 flick Freaky Friday, and revealed that she had plenty of say in her character's development in the bodyswap comedy after working as an executive producer on her recent Netflix projects. Lindsay told Empire magazine: "It really came from the movies I was doing with Netflix. "I was like, 'I know this.' When I'm reading the script, I'm already visualising where it's going to be, what the character's wearing. "(That journey) was a big part of what the new script was going to be. I like to be fully involved in the projects I do now, from the ground up. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge I've acquired over all these years in the industry, and don't want to let that go to waste. That's a big part of who I am as an actor now." Both Lindsay and Jamie Lee Curtis (as Anna's mother Tess Coleman) return for Freakier Friday – which is set for release next month – and she recalled how the Halloween icon approached her about making the movie. The Parent Trap star recalled: "She said, 'What do you think, if we do Freaky Friday 2?' "I was like, 'I'm in, it just has to be the right script.' That was the big thing for both of us. We wanted it to live up to all the expectations." Lindsay and Jamie have remained close friends since the original flick and the former revealed how she would lead the pair in exercises on set. She said: "Between takes, I would make Jamie do wall sits. "She'd be like, 'Are we really doing this right now?', and I'm like, 'Yes, it's good for us.'" Lohan's alter ego is a mother in the sequel and she got some real-life insight for the part when she and her husband Bader Shammas welcomed son Luai in 2023. She explained: "Anna's a mom now, raising a teenager, and the dynamic there is ever-changing. "You also have Tess, who is still kind of overbearing – and it's another merging of two families (with Anna getting ready to marry Eric, who is played by Manny Jacinto). "The whole world looks different. Everything is about your child. But we have to remember to make time for ourselves too, live our lives, fulfil our dreams. Moms are always trying to juggle it all, and that's what Anna's going through in this." Anna once again plays the guitar in this movie and Lindsay was elated to pick up the instrument as it brought back fond memories of the original film – although she wanted more of a musical challenge this time. The Mean Girls star said: "The second I started with my guitar coach again, it was like we never left. "It was the same guitar, everything. It was like it was yesterday. "We made it more difficult for this one. I'm such a perfectionist; we rehearsed a lot."

Liam Neeson tried not to copy Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun

Liam Neeson didn't set out to "emulate" Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun. The 73-year-old actor leads the cast of the comedy reboot as Frank Drebin Jr and was determined to avoid falling into the trap of mimicking the late actor – who played the character's father Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin in the original movies. Liam told Empire magazine: "I wouldn't say nerve-wracking, but every day I would go up to Akiva (Schaffer, director) after we wrapped and say, 'How was it?' Because I just didn't know. "I did not want to emulate the wonderful Leslie Nielsen, but the only thing I grabbed from him, was, 'Be serious. Don't try to be funny. Just stick to being a serious cop who is a bit of a doofus.'" Schaffer explained that he wanted his picture to differ from the previous flicks. The 47-year-old director said: "Liam's got his own things, but they're not Leslie Nielsen's things. "It would also be unfair to Liam (to try to mimic Nielsen), because he'd be spending the whole movie trying to match something that is another human being with a whole different – forgive me – set of skills." Akiva revealed that the Taken star was influential when it came to inserting jokes into the movie – which is released in cinemas next month. The filmmaker said: "He was actually the most game for the most silly stuff. I was constantly surprised. "He would be on set adding fart jokes, and I'd have to be like, 'Remember, three scenes earlier we have that fart joke. So if you do it here, it might be too early.'" The film is the first time that Neeson has taken a leading role in a comedy and Schaffer felt that this was beneficial for the project after the Northern Irish actor was recommended by producer Seth MacFarlane. He said: "That changed the entire equation for me. "Not only is Liam one of the best 'gravitas' leading men, he also is one of the only ones that has barely used it for comedy. "There's a lot of handsome guys – Jon Hamm, Alec Baldwin types – that if they had never done a comedy they could do it, and you'd be like, 'Whoa, where did this come from?' But they realised very early on that they could use their power for laughs." Schaffer explained that he used action movies as well as a range of different police procedurals as inspiration for ridicule in the flick. He said: "I was like, 'Wow, there are 30 years of Law and Orders and CSIs and all those procedurals.' "And the John Wicks, and Mission: Impossibles, and James Bond movies that have become very different than they were back then."
