Billy Crystal Reveals the Surprising 'When Harry Met Sally' Line That Fans Quote Back to Him (Exclusive)
The movie's memorable Katz's Deli scene arguably features its most famous line: 'I'll have what she's having.' In fact, Crystal and costar Meg Ryan even recreated the iconic rom-com moment for their new Hellmann's Super Bowl ad.
But the actor says he also gets 'baby fish mouth,' the nonsensical phrase delivered by Bruno Kirby, as Harry's friend Jess, during a game of Pictionary in the 1989 film.
'There's a T-shirt,' Crystal, 76, tells PEOPLE. 'It's sweeping the nation. Yeah, I hear them talking.'
He says he's 'never surprised' to hear 'I'll have what she's having,' other than by who may say it.
'I went through this when I was on Saturday Night Live and people were saying, 'You look marvelous' a lot, which was a big thing then,' he recalls, referring to his impressions of Fernando Lamas on the late-night sketch show.

He adds that his reaction to hearing these catchphrases usually depends on 'whether it's the right time or not.'
'If I'm having a tough time or some moment and I don't want to be disturbed,' he says. 'If it's in a restaurant, I'm in a discussion or someone will tap you on the shoulder and go, 'I'll have what you're having.' It's like, not now, not now. I appreciate it, but please not now.'
Ryan says she enjoys hearing the much-quoted line, originally delivered by director Rob Reiner's mother, Estelle.
'When people want to have what I'm having and the wink I get from strangers, it's just so sweet,' says the actress, 63. 'It's just so sweet that there's this affection for that scene.'

In the original scene, Harry says he doesn't believe any of the women he's slept with have ever faked an orgasm, and Sally proceeds to offer a convincing demonstration right in the middle of the restaurant. 'I'll have what she's having,' deadpans a fellow diner.
In their new Hellmann's ad, the pair reunites the movie's title characters at the New York City deli, where Harry tells Sally, 'I can't believe they let us back in this place.'
'Why?' Sally asks, to which he responds, 'Hello …' 'Nobody remembers that,' Sally insists.
The duo bite into their sandwiches, but Sally admits hers 'isn't doing it.'
She squeezes Hellmann's mayonnaise onto her rye bread, and voices her approval by re-enacting her famous performance. 'This one's real,' Billy remarks. Actress Sydney Sweeney makes a cameo to declare, 'I'll have what she's having.'
Ryan says she felt the love for the scene while filming the commercial at Katz's in December.
'There were so many people in there and they're all in on the joke,' she says. 'And we all wanted to be in on the joke, the extras. And you could just feel the affection that this has grown with people and just really felt nice.'

Terry Bradshaw, Aaron Rodgers Do Not Agree Politically originally appeared on The Spun. Terry Bradshaw and Aaron Rodgers have some drama brewing heading into the 2025 season. Bradshaw, a four-time Super Bowl champion, made it clear that he wasn't a big fan of Rodgers, who signed with his Pittsburgh Steelers. Bradshaw said earlier this year that he wished Rodgers would just stay in California and "chew" on some bark. "That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said of Pittsburgh's interest in Rodgers on 103.7 The Buzz back in May. "What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? "That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there." Rodgers, meanwhile, responded to Bradshaw at training camp over the weekend. His response was pretty classy. "I've known Terry for a long time, being a part of FOX," Rodgers said, speaking to NFL Network's Kyle Brandt. "Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He's had a legendary career in the media. "But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me. So he's got an idea of what he thinks about me based on what I've done, the documentary, what I've said, darkness retreat, whatever the hell you want to talk about." While Rodgers and Bradshaw might have a lot in common on the football field, they've said pretty different things politically over the years. Bradshaw announced that he left the Republican Party, choosing to be an independent. He criticized President Trump, too. 'I've been a Republican, but now I'm a registered independent. I don't want to alienate anyone, and the minute you say, 'I'm a Democrat' or 'I'm Republican,' you're kicking off the other side. I want the best person [in the White House], and I'll pick the one who's most like the way I feel,' he announced. Bradshaw took issue with how President Trump criticized NFL players for kneeling for the anthem. "This is America. If our country stands for anything, folks, it's freedom. People died for that freedom. I'm not sure if our President understands those rights—that every American has the right to speak out and to protest. Believe me, these athletes do love this great country of ours," Bradshaw stated. He added: "Personally, I think our President should concentrate on North Korea and healthcare rather than ripping into athletes and the NFL." Rodgers, meanwhile, has shown his support for President Trump over the years, even posting a photo of himself shaking hands with POTUS on social media. He said it was "priceless." Rodgers has said that he would like to get to know Bradshaw, so hopefully that'll happen before the 2025 NFL season. But the duo might have some disagreements in the world of politics. Bob Odenkirk thinks he was 'too hard' on 'SNL' as young writer: 'This show could be better'
The "Nobody 2" star also tells EW he "would love that opportunity" when asked if there's a chance he'll host the season 51 premiere. Bob Odenkirk has found new respect for Saturday Night Live after leaving the show. While discussing Nobody 2 at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the actor tells Entertainment Weekly that he has gained a better perspective on SNL in the years since he finished his tenure as a writer, which lasted from 1987 to 1991. Although he's previously said that he had a less-than-stellar view of SNL while he worked there, he now realizes that he judged the show too harshly. "I was too hard on the show," he says. "I had a lot of attitude when I got hired there, like, 'This show could be better, this show could be Monty Python, this should be more cutting edge, this should be more dangerous.' And I was frustrated by it not representing purely my point of view. I wanted it to be me, my show." Odenkirk now understands that his desire to personally transform the entire voice of SNL was foolhardy. "It's not my show! It's a show that is shared by everyone who's in that cast, and everyone who's in that writing staff, and it's shared by generations, and not one generation," he says. He continues, "Everybody in America watches it, and it's a reference point for everyone. I think the 50th just made me more aware [than] ever of the amazing work that's been done there." The Better Call Saul star also thinks that he got to write boundary-pushing comedy on a later project. "I think Mr. Show, the show I did with David Cross, I consider my effort to do something edgy and new and try to blast through some barriers and go to another level," he says. Odenkirk also admits that he didn't fully appreciate how SNL's lightning-fast weekly schedule makes its production so difficult. "It's a bigger challenge than I thought it was when I worked there," he explains. "When I worked there I was 25, I was like, 'C'mon, dammit! We can do better! This is easy!' And it literally was the years since I've left that I went, 'Wait a second, that show is almost impossible to do at all.'" Additionally, when asked if he'd consider hosting the show during its upcoming 51st season, Odenkirk responds strongly in the affirmative. "I would love that opportunity," he says. "I have mad respect for the effort of that show, and I would dream of being able to host."Though he's never hosted the show before, Odenkirk says that it remains within the realm of possibility. "There's been conversation about it," he explains. "They don't have me locked out. I'm friends with everybody there, and I know so many of the writers, and I know so many of the actors.
