Egypt, Jordan warn against descending the region into greater chaos

CAIRO – 22 June 2025: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, received a phone call today, Sunday, June 22, from Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The call took place as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two nations regarding regional developments. The ministers discussed the rapidly escalating situation in the region, particularly the military tensions between Israel and Iran and the serious threat they pose to regional peace and security.
Minister Abdelatty underscored the urgent need for de-escalation and a ceasefire, stressing that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to prevent a broader conflict that could endanger the stability of the region.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of calm, self-restraint, and constructive dialogue to avoid further deterioration. They reaffirmed their rejection of any violations of the UN Charter or international law and underscored the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states. They also warned of the grave risks of the region descending into greater chaos and instability amid the current tensions.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American aircraft had conducted heavy airstrikes on several Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. 'A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,' Trump said. In response, Iran attacked Ben Gurion Airport, the system's biological research center, and alternative command and control centers. Tehran added that it used guided missiles, capable of maneuvering the warhead at the moment of landing, and guiding until the moment of impact, and equipped with highly explosive and destructive warheads of various types.
Since the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel on June 13, Egypt has exerted tremendous diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in which hundreds of people were killed and thousands were injured.
The war started when Israel, which has nuclear weapon and not a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), launched missile and drones towards Tehran and killed hundreds of nuclear scientists, military leaders and civilians to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon. Israeli missiles and drones have targeted several nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, Arak and Fordow, causing a minor level of radiation leakage in Natanz as it was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Israel, which is totally backed by the US, seeks to be the only country in the region that has nuclear weapons. In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds hypersonic missiles and drones on Israel, causing severe damage to buildings besides the Weizmann Institute of Science, Haifa refinery, and the Gav-Yam Negev Advanced Technologies Park.

Egypt's New Administrative Capital Shares Urban Planning Expertise in Madagascar
Taarek Refaat In a significant step to bolster African cooperation and export Egyptian expertise in sustainable urban development, the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company (ACUD) has announced its active involvement in supporting the development of a new administrative city in Madagascar. The visit, led by Eng. Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of ACUD, came at the official invitation of Madagascar's Secretary of State for New Towns and Housing and follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both nations during the Cairo Urban Forum in November 2024. The Egyptian delegation visited the Madagascan capital Antananarivo from June 22 to 25, 2025, where they explored avenues for technical collaboration and shared Egypt's landmark experience in developing its New Administrative Capital (NAC)—a national megaproject viewed as a model for future smart cities in the region. Sharing Expertise for a Future Capital At the heart of the visit was a field tour of the Tana-Masondro New City Project, located approximately 28 kilometers from Antananarivo and spanning over 2,340 acres. The site is set to become Madagascar's future administrative capital and a major urban expansion initiative. During the tour, Eng. Abbas reviewed master plans, ongoing works, and requested detailed technical documents for evaluation and advisory input from the Egyptian side. In a high-level meeting with the Secretary of State, Abbas presented Egypt's integrated approach to smart and sustainable urban planning, including infrastructure development, digital governance, and public-private partnerships. The two parties agreed to form a joint steering committee comprising specialists from both countries to oversee cooperation and begin technical collaboration on the new city's design and implementation. Business Forum Highlights Egyptian-Malagasy Partnership The visit also featured ACUD's participation in the Egypt-Madagascar Business Forum, which was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Egypt's Deputy Minister for Maritime Transport, Rear Admiral Nehad Shaheen, and a delegation of private Egyptian firms. On the Malagasy side, ministers of foreign affairs, transportation, public works, energy, water, industry, and commerce joined the discussions. Eng. Abbas took part in knowledge-exchange sessions that showcased Egypt's urban development model, highlighting successful strategies in financing, planning, and managing large-scale cities such as the NAC. Presidential Reception and Bilateral Commitment The visit concluded with a meeting between Eng. Abbas and President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, during which Abbas conveyed the greetings of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and affirmed Cairo's readiness to support Madagascar's urban ambitions. President Rajoelina welcomed the Egyptian offer of expertise and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in areas of development, urban planning, and sustainable infrastructure. A Strategic Partnership in the Making The collaboration reflects a broader strategy by the Egyptian government to expand its footprint in African urban development initiatives, positioning ACUD as a regional leader in smart city planning. The signed MoU outlines a roadmap for Egyptian companies to provide technical support, human resources, and consultancy in the design and execution of the Tana-Masondro project. Taarek Refaat Tech billionaire Elon Musk launched a scathing attack Saturday on the latest version of President Donald Trump's sweeping tax and spending bill, warning that it would destroy American jobs and plunge the nation deeper into unsustainable debt. Egyptian FM: No Mideast Stability Without Palestinian Solution
H-Tayea Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt continues to work tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Cairo is engaged in coordinated efforts with Qatar and the United States to halt what he described as 'ongoing crimes and systematic starvation' in the Gaza Strip. These efforts have been sustained for over 21 months since the events of October 7, 2023. In an interview on the ON TV program Kelma Akhira, Abdelatty noted that the current geopolitical context is more favorable for reaching an agreement on Gaza, citing increased recognition among key international actors, especially the US, of Egypt's comprehensive vision. He stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East are impossible without addressing the root of the conflict: the Israeli-Palestinian issue, with the Palestinian cause at its core. 'The message is now clear to Israel: there will be no security or stability without resolving the Palestinian issue and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace,' he stated, adding that this stance is increasingly echoed by the European Union and other global powers. Responding to a question on recent remarks by US President Donald Trump about a potential Gaza agreement in the coming weeks, Abdel Aaty affirmed the seriousness of American engagement. 'This is true. The January 19 ceasefire agreement in Gaza would not have been possible without the intervention of the current US administration,' he said, pointing to Washington's influence and Egypt's desire for further American involvement.
