SIT focus on phones tapped before 2023 polls
The SIT had earlier recorded the statements of former Principal Secretary (Home) Ravi Gupta, Director General of Police Dr Jitender, and former Intelligence chief Anil Kumar.
According to sources, the accused had claimed that all these officers were members of the 'review committee' and had approved the list of phone numbers submitted for surveillance. Prabhakar Rao, the prime accused in the case, reportedly told the SIT that phones were tapped based on orders from 'higher officials'.
The sources stated that the SIT inquiry is focusing on phones tapped up to a fortnight before the 2023 Assembly elections. The SIT is reportedly examining the entire list of tapped phones and trying to identify who gave the orders to surveil around 1,600 phones in the state, including those belonging to politicians, business personalities, film celebrities, IAS and IPS officers, and journalists.
Sources from the SIT stated that they are investigating the entire tapping episode using the available data from service providers and the Telecom Department. The sources also said that SIT is going through the call records obtained by Prabhakar Rao, Praneeth Rao and other accused from March 2023 to the end of November 2023. The SIT is also trying to identify why the accused obtained call records data from the service providers and on whose orders this was done.
The SIT officers are calling victims to record statements as witnesses by showing the Call Detail Records (CDRs) which were taken by the accused officers under key codes such as CAT 1, CAT 2, CAT 3 and so on. The SIT is also inquiring with the victims whether there was any intimidation, extortion, or other problems created by the accused officers between March 2023 and November 2023. If such activities are reported, the SIT is also accepting complaints from the victims and including these in the CRPC 161 statements.
The SIT is likely to record the statement of former DGP M Mahender Reddy. Prabhakar Rao reportedly stated to the investigation officer that his appointment was made by Mahender and that he followed instructions from higher officials.
Meanwhile, the SIT is also set to record the statement of Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay at a convenient time, likely Monday or Tuesday, as a witness, as his phone was also allegedly tapped by the accused officers.

1 2 3 Lucknow: In a dramatic chain of events spanning over 350 kilometres, a man who opened fire in Agra was chased down and arrested by Lucknow Police after a high-speed getaway on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Unfazed, the Lucknow Commissionerate's surveillance team tracked his movements in real-time using mobile tracking. Police teams from Manaknagar and Kakori laid a second trap near R.K. Marriage Lawn. This time, the car was successfully intercepted. Pankaj was caught, and his weapon—used in the Agra firing—was seized along with three empty shell casings. "During interrogation, he confessed to the firing incident in Agra and admitted trying to flee via the Expressway. He had allegedly booked the vehicle via a local vendor and used it for both travel and escape. Agra Police confirmed that a case has been lodged at Tajganj police station and have taken custody of the accused for further proceedings," said joint commissioner (law and order) Babloo Kumar. The accused confessed to have opened multiple fires to impress bystanders.

Kolkata law college rape case: SIT sends ‘11th hour' CCTV footage, phones of accused for forensic test
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kolkata Police probing the alleged rape of a law student on a college campus is confident of building an 'airtight' case after retrieving the cellphones of the four arrested accused and the CCTV footage of the '11th hour' — the hour preceding the crime. On Monday, the SIT sent the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the college's CCTV cameras for forensic examination, along with the seized mobile phones of the accused. A senior police officer told The Indian Express the student had told the investigators that the video of the crime was on key accused Monojit Mishra's phone. 'We have got the CCTV footage of the eleventh hour. The DVRs have been sent for forensic examination, and those who were there in the college on that day have been questioned,' the senior officer said. Police sources said the CCTV footage shows the woman being dragged from the college gate into the premises. 'A total of eight individuals, including the woman and the accused, were present on the campus on the evening of the alleged crime. Four have been arrested in connection with the case. The remaining three, who were in the students' union room but not implicated directly in the crime, have undergone questioning,' another officer said. Delhi: Mechanic falls to death from 8th floor while servicing AC
A mechanic fell to his death from the 8th floor of a building, while servicing an air conditioner, in the Netaji Subhash Place area, the Delhi Police said. The incident took place at Agarwal Cyber Plaza, officers said. According to police, the deceased, Ram Sevak (32), a resident of Wazirabad, worked at a Shalimar Bagh-based AC repair and service shop. On Monday afternoon, police said, the victim, along with four colleagues — Pradeep Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Jagdish and Chandan — went to the Agarwal Cyber Plaza to install and service some ACs as an office on the 8th floor was undergoing renovation. 'Ram was cleaning the outdoor part of an AC on the 8th floor. That's when his foot slipped and he fell. His colleagues ran down and rushed him to Saroj Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) Bhisham Singh said. Police said they have registered a case of death due to negligence against unknown persons, as the initial investigation showed that Ram was working without any protective gear. Last month, a 30-year-old worker died at a metal factory in the Mandoli Industrial area. He was on the second floor of the building when, suddenly, he slipped and fell, landing on top of a rolling machine that severed his neck. In this case, too, police had registered a case of death due to negligence against unknown persons. 'The contractor, along with other people associated with the factory, was questioned. The worker, Vikas, lived in the Rahul Garden area of Loni, Ghaziabad, with his pregnant wife. Police officers had said the victim had been working at the factory since February after he was hired by a local contractor.
