Cybercrime police register case against online blackmailer
The Central Division Cyber Crime police are on the lookout for an unidentified man for blackmailing a Delhi based businessman by uploading morphed pictures of his daughter on a dating website. Based on the complaint filed on Saturday, the police have registered an FIR charging the accused under section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) under the Information Technology Act, 2000 for further investigation. The complainant said that the accused had approached him through three different numbers, which were later shared with the police, informing the complainant that a nude picture of his daughter was uploaded on a dating website. A link was also shared. The accused had even uploaded the morphed pictures of other family members to blackmail the complainant demanding ransom. The accused had further threatened to upload the pictures on other websites, if the money was not paid. The cybercrime police are trying to track down the accused using the Call Detail Records (CDR).

SIT focus on phones tapped before 2023 polls The SIT had earlier recorded the statements of former Principal Secretary (Home) Ravi Gupta, Director General of Police Dr Jitender, and former Intelligence chief Anil Kumar. According to sources, the accused had claimed that all these officers were members of the 'review committee' and had approved the list of phone numbers submitted for surveillance. Prabhakar Rao, the prime accused in the case, reportedly told the SIT that phones were tapped based on orders from 'higher officials'. The sources stated that the SIT inquiry is focusing on phones tapped up to a fortnight before the 2023 Assembly elections. The SIT is reportedly examining the entire list of tapped phones and trying to identify who gave the orders to surveil around 1,600 phones in the state, including those belonging to politicians, business personalities, film celebrities, IAS and IPS officers, and journalists. Sources from the SIT stated that they are investigating the entire tapping episode using the available data from service providers and the Telecom Department. The sources also said that SIT is going through the call records obtained by Prabhakar Rao, Praneeth Rao and other accused from March 2023 to the end of November 2023. The SIT is also trying to identify why the accused obtained call records data from the service providers and on whose orders this was done. The SIT officers are calling victims to record statements as witnesses by showing the Call Detail Records (CDRs) which were taken by the accused officers under key codes such as CAT 1, CAT 2, CAT 3 and so on. The SIT is also inquiring with the victims whether there was any intimidation, extortion, or other problems created by the accused officers between March 2023 and November 2023. If such activities are reported, the SIT is also accepting complaints from the victims and including these in the CRPC 161 statements. The SIT is likely to record the statement of former DGP M Mahender Reddy. Prabhakar Rao reportedly stated to the investigation officer that his appointment was made by Mahender and that he followed instructions from higher officials. Meanwhile, the SIT is also set to record the statement of Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay at a convenient time, likely Monday or Tuesday, as a witness, as his phone was also allegedly tapped by the accused officers.

Probe under way into cops' alleged link with sex racket in Kozhikode
The police have accessed Call Detail Records (CDR) of more persons as part of the investigation into the discreet network of a recently exposed sex racket in Kozhikode city. A preliminary CDR analysis, which already revealed the alleged links of two civil police officers with the racket, confirms that the racket has been in touch with some influential persons, including government servants, in the city. 'The two policemen, Shaijith and Sanith, who were arraigned in the sex racket case, have been placed under suspension by the District Police Chief [Kozhikode city] pending further investigation. They were drivers with the police control room,' said a police officer associated with the investigation. He said CDR analysis of 12 persons, including six women who were rescued from the spot, was progressing. Sources also confirmed that the arrest of the two police drivers would be recorded soon. Reports related to the department-level investigation conducted on their role in the case had already been forwarded to the higher authorities, they said. Apart from CDR evidence, the investigation team also retrieved some bank documents which revealed financial transactions allegedly carried out between the accused policemen and one of the arrested women. It was on June 6 that the suspected inter-district sex racket was exposed during a flash inspection at an apartment near Malaparamba in Kozhikode. The rented apartment was projected as a facility for accommodating women who offer bystander support to the needy in the nearby hospitals. According to the Nadakkavu police, nine persons, including two men who came to the spot as 'customers', were nabbed from the spot on June 6. The two policemen and a Non-Resident Keralite identified as M.K. Animesh, who allegedly sublet the building for the alleged illegal business, were arraigned in the case after a three-day-long investigation based on CDR analysis, they said.

Anna University sexual assault case: Annamalai warns of revealing identities of police officers allegedly contacted by convict
BJP Tamil Nadu former president K. Annamalai, on Tuesday (June 3, 2025) alleged several questions remain unanswered in the Anna University sexual assault case and accused the DMK government of attempting to 'shield' certain individuals. In a video posted on his X handle, Mr. Annamalai raised several questions to the State government and claimed the convict Gnanasekar spoke to a police officer and a DMK functionary after committing the crime, last year. He claimed to have accessed the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the accused and the DMK functionary. Further, he warned that he would reveal the identity of the police officers, whom the accused and the DMK functionary had allegedly contacted, if the State government failed to respond to his questions within 48 hours. He made these allegations a day after the Mahila Court in Chennai sentenced the accused to undergo life imprisonment for a minimum period of 30 years without remission.

Delhi Police bust fake Noida call centre, nab 8
The Delhi Police Friday busted a fake call centre operating from the basement of a Noida building and arrested eight people allegedly involved in a credit card scam. The police have also seized 24 mobile phones and a diary with a log of Rs 6.5 crore of defrauded transactions. According to the police, the alleged fake call centre was being run by Vikas, 28, and Kundan Singh, 31, along with Divyam, 22, and five women – all of whom were arrested – for the last seven months. 'Upon sustained questioning, they disclosed that their telemarketers contacted individuals over the phone under the pretext of increasing their credit card limits, subsequently sending them a malicious link to collect their account details,' Sachin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer, Delhi Police, said. The case came to light on March 22, when a complainant approached the Cyber Police Station (Outer), claiming that he was defrauded of Rs 6,000 after he got a call from people claiming that they could boost his credit card limit. 'The fraud was committed under the pretext of increasing his credit card limit, during which the accused obtained sensitive card details and the OTP from the victim through malicious links and fraudulent phone calls,' DCP Sharma said. After checking Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR), Call Detail Records (CDR), and IMEI searches of the phone number from which the complainant received a call, the police tracked the device to a building in Noida Sector-63. 'The location of the primary accused and the operational hub of the call centre was identified in the basement of Building D-60, Sector-63, Noida. A raid was subsequently conducted at the specified location,' said DCP Sharma.
