Revealed: Why PSG boss Luis Enrique is set to snub Jamie Carragher and CBS ahead of Champions League final

Daily Mail31-05-2025
Jamie Carragher has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is set to snub him ahead of the Champions League final.
Enrique is looking to lift PSG's first ever Champions League trophy and faces Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena.
A win would see them become just the second French side to be crowned European champions.
But the Spaniard, who has already guided the Parisians to a domestic double, is likely to refuse to speak to Carragher or CBS ahead of the game.
The former England and Liverpool defender, who is part of the broadcaster's coverage for Saturday's clash, admitted that Enrique won't talk to him because he proudly sported a Dortmund scarf during last season's Champions League semi-final.
PSG were dumped out of the competition by the German side at that stage last year, losing both legs 1-0.
And Carragher donned Dortmund attire as he joined supporters in the Yellow Wall during the first leg at the Signal Iduna Park, later admitting to drinking eight pints on the night.
After the match he kept the scarf on as he entered the mixed zone, to the ire of Enrique.
'Luis Enrique, at the moment, won't speak to us,' Carragher told It's Called Soccer podcast.
'Because last season, I was in Dortmund when his team lost to Borussia Dortmund.
'I was in the mixed zone with a Borussia Dortmund scarf on, so that didn't go down particularly well with Luis.
Enrique later stormed out of a post-match interview with Carragher after objecting to his scarf.
Carragher managed to get through a hilarious Q&A with Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho, but his planned discussion with the PSG boss was abruptly halted when the Spaniard took issue with the Dortmund scarf.
Enrique's snub was revealed by Peter Schmeichel, who was also on punditry duty for CBS at the Westfalenstadion.
'In all seriousness, he's in the sin bin.' The United legend said.
'Seriously, he's upset every person here. First of all, were supposed to have Luis Enrique.
Last year, PSG knocked out Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the competition and Enrique was quick to take a light-hearted dig at CBS' pundits, who had predicted a victory for the Catalans.
'I'm really upset with all of you,' he joked.
'I watched on YouTube, all of you predicted that Barcelona were going through to the next phase.
'Nobody believed in our possibilities. How sad I am, how sad I am.'
Enrique's side have already knocked out Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa out of the Champions League and are just one game away from making history in Munich.

Rihanna bares baby bump on rare outing with Riot, one, after A$AP Rocky's accidental gender reveal

Rihanna put her blossoming baby bump on display when she stepped out in Paris this week with her younger son Riot holding her hand. The 37-year-old shares two sons, RZA, three, and Riot, 23 months, with her rapper boyfriend A$AP Rocky, and she is currently expecting their third. She joyously went public with her latest pregnancy at this May's Met Gala, which happened to have Rocky as one of the co-chairs. Now, she has been spotted in a rare public outing with little Riot, emerging from the car together in the French capital this Tuesday. Cutting a stylish figure in a color-block cropped polo shirt and walnut brown maternity trousers, she slung on a statement handbag by Dior. The purse was the newly redesigned Book Tote based on the first edition cover of Dracula by Bram Stoker, an author whose Irish nationality is shared by Dior's new creative director Jonathan Anderson. Jonathan, who is known for founding his own line JW Anderson, made his Dior debut with the brand's menswear show in Paris last week - an event attended by Rihanna. Rihanna's latest outing comes two days after Rocky appeared to accidentally reveal the gender of their third child while attending the world premiere of her film Smurfs held at Mont des Arts in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday. When ET 's Kevin Frazier asked the 36-year-old rapper 'Is that the girl you've been waiting for' he immediately replied: 'It is, man, it is.' Feeling cornered, A$AP (born Rakim Athelaston Mayers) then held up a plush Smurfette doll and redirected: 'Right here, you know what I'm saying? Right here.' Over on ET's official Instagram account, fans went wild with user @aysenuurkc exclaiming: 'It's [a] girl!' 'He definitely gave it away,' Instagram user @khadija_sufi laughed. 'How cutely he promoted the movie and showed his love for her!' Instagram user @fashionistaera21 gushed. 'That's a real man supporting his girl.' Instagram user @hot_cheetos_0001 commented: 'Put a ring on it. Do it the right way.' Rocky appeared to accidentally reveal the gender of their third child while attending the world premiere of her film Smurfs held at Mont des Arts in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday 'He needs to marry her,' Instagram user @chibiapril0412 agreed. When Frazier asked the expecting 36-year-old the same exact question, she smiled coyly and replied: 'Let's see if it's a could be a Papa Smurf. Who knows?' Riri (born Robyn Fenty) did confirm that the couple would give their next child a name that begins with R: 'That's the one thing me and Rocky don't fight over.' When asked how many more children they planned on having, the two-time Grammy nominee joked: 'We [are] going to be like the Wayans' family, you know? Yeah, I mean, love is beautiful and it's just [about] spreading it.' The nine-time Grammy winner and A$AP Rocky already welcomed two sons - RZA Athelston Mayers, 3; and Riot Rose Mayers, 22 months - during their five-year relationship and she hasn't been shy in the past over her dream of having a daughter. But the power couple - who share matching 1988 tattoos to mark their birth year - originally met in 2011 when she first enlisted him to rap on her song Cockiness (Love It). A$AP Rocky was facing up to eight years in prison until February 18 when a jury found him not guilty of two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm stemming from a 2021 shooting of his longtime friend A$AP Relli (born Terell Ephron). The AWGE founder's late Bajan father reportedly went to prison when he was only 12, and he spent his teen years moving around homeless shelters with his mother and sister. A serial killer in the family … a remarkably enjoyable French novel

Jean Pelletier has not enjoyed conjugal relations with his wife, Geneviève, for five years, 'since the third week of their marriage' in fact, so not surprisingly he wonders how they have a three-year-old daughter and another baby on the way. His lazy, selfish, bullying wife is so magnificently monstrous that you cannot help but feel sorry for the cowardly Jean, despite his being a serial killer of young women. Pierre Lemaitre excels in portraying such moral monsters but also in tugging away the rug of certainty when you least expect it. Here we have the cunning Inspector Palmari destroying lives in his obsessive campaign against abortion and the charmless engineer Destouches forcing people out of their homes to make way for a reservoir. Set against them are the good Dr Marelle and the local workers' champion Buzier. What you think about them by the book's close will surprise you. Lemaitre, a former literature teacher, in 2013 won the CWA International Dagger crime writers' award for his second novel, Alex, and France's leading literary award, the Prix Goncourt, for his first non-crime novel, The Great Swindle. The latter, the first in a trilogy, is brilliant: a savaging of French society in the interwar years. The Silence and the Rage is his 13th novel and the second in a projected tetralogy set during Les Trentes Glorieuses, the 30 years of French economic growth between 1945 and 1975. Lemaitre began with The Wide World, set in 1948, dealing with the Pelletier children leaving the family home and business in Beirut. Etienne is murdered in Indochina, while the other three establish themselves in Paris — Jean running a haberdashery, François and Hélène working for a newspaper. In the new novel it is 1952. Jean is gambling on expanding his business into a cut-price department store, taking on a workforce of desperate women and, to slap them into shape, a pitiless manager, Guénot, admired by Geneviève for cheating Jewish shopkeepers out of their stock during the German occupation. François becomes head of news at the paper and pushes the investigation into the unsolved murder of an actress, not knowing his brother is responsible. He is also romantically pursuing Nine, who is a deaf, alcoholic bookbinder with a mysterious past. Meanwhile, Hélène, now a photojournalist, is covering a dam building project in the Yonne region of central France where the last inhabitants of a village set to be drowned by the reservoir are refusing to leave. She is also sleeping with the paper's editor and has just discovered she is pregnant. • What we're reading this week — by the Times books team There are no plot spoilers here. These details are Lemaitre's starting points in this extravagantly multistranded work (and I could also have mentioned the boxing championship plot, real father of Geneviève's baby plot, village idiot plot … ) The novel reads perfectly well without reference to its predecessor yet there's a still richer pleasure in recognising how storylines are carried across from the earlier work: the trail of murders, the blossoming of Geneviève's unpleasantness, the strangeness of Nine. Lemaitre is brilliant at marshalling his material, all the narrative strands and multiple vivid characters, into snappy, suspenseful episodes so you never lose a thread and always have the urge to press on. This is probably why you don't immediately notice that for all its strengths Lemaitre's writing lacks any sense of period. There is little description, no living details peculiar to the time. We could be in any point between 1902 and 1992, even though the central concerns are historically accurate: in the early 1950s dams were being built across France and there was a postwar clampdown on the 'social scourge' of abortion. Not all the themes are this serious. The newspaper also runs a series of articles asking, 'Are French women dirty?' It turns out that not all English prejudices about the French are wrong. Pleasingly, this series is based on an investigation that ran in Elle magazine in October, 1951 (reproduced in an appendix). • Read more book reviews and interviews — and see what's top of the Sunday Times Bestsellers List With this new sequence building on the earlier trilogy, Lemaitre seems determined to give us his take on France in the 20th century, from the outrageous treatment of First World War veterans and the complacency that led to catastrophe in the next conflict, to the collapse of its institutions and colonies. It is monumentally ambitious stuff and remarkably enjoyable. The Silence and the Rage by Pierre Lemaitre, translated by Frank Wynne (Tinder £25 pp503).
