Does Michigan State have one of the breakout stars in all of college football on its roster this season? Michael Cohen of FOX Sports believes that to be the case.
Cohen released a list of his top 10 breakout candidates for the upcoming college football season, and there was one Spartan who made this national list. Cohen included Spartans sophomore wide receiver Nick Marsh on that notable list.
Marsh -- who has a four-star prospect in the 2024 class -- had a pretty solid freshman season this past year, recording 41 receptions for 649 yards and three touchdowns. He was especially important in two of the Spartans' top wins against Maryland and Iowa as well last season.
Here's what Cohen had to say about Marsh and why he's included on this list:
"A quiet season-opener against Florida Atlantic gave way to the finest game of Marsh's young career when he caught eight passes for 194 yards and a touchdown in the 27-24 win over Maryland on Sept. 7. His 77-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter was the longest by a Michigan State player since former wideout Jayden Reed caught an 85-yard score against Youngstown State in 2021. It marked the first of two 100-yard games for Marsh, who finished eighth in the Big Ten in yards per catch (15.8) and second among the conference's freshmen at 59 receiving yards per game. Marsh proved particularly effective between the hashes, with more than 29% of his receptions coming across the middle on throws measuring 10 yards or fewer downfield, according to Pro Football Focus. Of his 62 total targets last season, more than 40 of them were on throws that attacked the middle at various depths. His connection with second-year starting quarterback Aidan Chiles, who was turnover-prone last season, will be a key barometer for Michigan State's offense this fall."
Marsh is expected to be one of the Spartans' top offensive weapons this upcoming season, and if he is in fact a breakout player, then Michigan State will possess a pretty solid offense. Him and Chiles will be massive indicators for success for the Spartans in 2025.
Michigan State officially opens the 2025 season on August 29 in a home game against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1.

Social media reacts to Alabama players signing undrafted NBA free agent deals

Over the course of this past Wednesday and Thursday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide did not see any of their four draft-eligible players selected in the two rounds of the 2025 NBA draft. Yes, throughout both the first-and-second rounds, none of Alabama's four draft-eligible prospects - Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi, and Chris Youngblood - heard their names called, and instead entered undrafted free agency late Friday night. Since, it has not taken those four Alabama players long to find a new home at the professional level either, as all have signed an undrafted free agent deal as of Friday, June 27. Let's take a look at some reactions on social media to Alabama's draft prospects landing with NBA teams on free agent deals. Once again, clear evidence shows the dominance of Eagles star WR A.J. Brown

We may never hear another speech like the masterpiece Jason Kelce offered at the Philadelphia Eagles' first Super Bowl victory parade. There were simply too many iconic moments: the beratement of Mike Lombardi, the "hungry dogs run faster" line, the off-key but beautiful song we heard at the end. Come to think of it, the earlier statement is suddenly incorrect. We will NEVER hear another victory speech like Jason Kelce's. A.J. Brown has his moment though. Few compare to his mic-drop moment this past February. "They said I was a diva. They said all I cared about was stats. If you're going to get all of those things wrong about me, it's one thing you can get right. I'm a (expletive) champion!" Well, he isn't lying... A.J. is a champion, and as good as he was with the Tennessee Titans, he has become even better in Philly. Let's talk about those stats A.J. is mentioning. A.J. Brown, since joining the Philadelphia Eagles, has become the NFL's premier unstoppable force. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith enter their fourth season as teammates. They are on the verge of being the best duo this organization has ever seen. They are currently Pro Football Focus's choice as the best one-two punch in the game. No disrespect is intended to great tandems like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin or Harold Jackson and Ben Hawkins. Harold Carmichael and Charlie Smith... Fred Barnett and Calvin Williams... All were great. A.J. and DeVonta have the potential to exceed all of them. Let's focus on A.J. for a second. They say 'people lie, but numbers don't'. If that's true, how can we argue against Brown now being the best of his era? Per Pro Football Focus, he's the best receiver in the game, and their recent ranking of the NFL's top wide receivers against man and zone coverage places him second vs. the former. Two-tenths of a point would have slid him ahead of Mike Evans for the top spot. Check out PFF's explanation of A.J.'s brilliance and Lauren Gray's explanation of what makes him so good against man coverage. "Brown ranked fifth in PFF receiving grade against man coverage in 2023 (90.4) and recorded a league-best 510 receiving yards... He led the league in that mark again in 2024, catching 35 single-target passes for 538 yards and six touchdowns (tied third most). Brown also paced the NFL with 11 missed tackles forced on man-coverage catches while finishing in the top three in first downs gained (26), yards after the catch (189) and yards per route run (3.99). He ranked fifth in passer rating when targeted against man coverage (142.4)." A.J.'s previous three seasons in the City of Brotherly Love have resulted in two of his three career Pro Bowl appearances and three consecutive Second-Team All-Pro nods. He owns team records for most receiving yards in a player's debut and single-season receiving yards. He and DeVonta Smith are the first tandem in franchise history to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. He has caught a TD pass in BOTH of his Super Bowl appearances, and again, he is an (expletive) champion. Need we say more? If Brown stays on this path, he'll have a Pro Football Hall of Fame argument. Based on what we have seen so far, barring any injury, there is no reason to believe he won't.

Former UNC wide receiver praises Bill Belichick for his coaching style

This former UNC football player had some nice things to say about Chapel Bill. 2024 was another lost football season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom – despite clinching their sixth-consecutive trip to a bowl game – finished with their second losing record in four seasons. If you thought last year was bad for UNC, take a look at Florida State. The Seminoles started 2024 ranked, as they typically are, then proceeded to win just two games. North Carolina reloaded its roster this offseason under new head coach Bill Belichick, who brings eight Super Bowls and countless experience to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels' greatest replacements come on defense, though, replacing their entire starting defensive line with the likes of Pryce Yates and Vilbert Smith. Gavin Blackwell, who played his first four collegiate seasons at UNC, had an opportunity to learn from Belichick for a few months. Now on FSU, Blackwell praised his former head coach, despite never suiting up for him. "He was great," Blackwell said. "Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Coach (Bill) Belichick. He loves football. Everything you see online and stuff like that, I would kind of say the media portrays it a little bit differently than what it is inside the building. He loves his players, he loves his coaches and he's all about ball. He kind of brought more of an NFL aspect to college and that's kind of what they're running there. But himself, he's down-to-earth dude, not a big-headed guy. You can go up to him, have a conversation, talk ball with him. He loves that type of stuff and when you show that you're interested, he's gonna make sure he gives you that same respect and try to help you as much as he can. He's got eight Super Bowls. Great dude, wish them the best." Blackwell redshirted his first collegiate season in 2021, appearing in just one game, but emerged the following year with 239 receiving yards and his lone touchdown. Now on a Mike Norvell-led roster desperately searching for productive talent, Blackwell has a real chance to put up WR1 numbers.
