The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation confirmed the shooting occurred around 10.30 am. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities swiftly launched a search operation, concentrating efforts in the nearby Stump Town area west of Anaconda, reported AP. More than a dozen local and state law enforcement officers, supported by helicopters, drones, and K9 units, joined the manhunt.

Brown is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Officials are urging the public not to approach him and to report any sightings to 911 immediately.
The owner of the Firefly Café in Anaconda said she closed her shop around 11 am Friday after a friend informed her about the shooting. Two hours later, she was still waiting for the official all-clear to reopen.
'It's a small town, so we all probably know someone who was there' at the shooting, she said as quoted by AP.
Anaconda, a historic mining town with a population of about 9,000, is located roughly 75 miles southeast of Missoula. Surrounded by mountains and steeped in copper mining history, the town was founded in the late 1800s and is known for the massive, now-defunct smelter that still towers over the landscape.

Yogi warns of NSA, Gangster Act for illegal drone use, spreading rumours

Agra: UP CM Yogi Adityanath has warned that individuals operating drones without official permission or spreading rumours and misinformation about them to create panic will be prosecuted under the Gangster Act, and in serious cases, the National Security Act (NSA) will also be invoked. He instructed senior officials to step up district-wise drone surveillance, strengthen patrolling, and ensure all violations are dealt with firmly. The directive comes amid a series of mob attacks triggered by false claims of thieves using drones to scout homes they target in western UP. During a review meeting with senior police officers, Yogi said that unauthorised use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was banned in the state and any misuse would attract legal action. He added that drone misuse would not be tolerated. "Anyone using drones illegally or for creating panic will not be spared. If required, the NSA will be used," the CM said. The 'misinformation' about drones has triggered community-led patrolling, physical assaults, and mob action against mentally disabled persons and outsiders mistaken for gang members. In some areas, residents formed vigilante groups and launched independent crackdowns based purely on unverified drone sightings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo The warning comes days after a 50-year-old mentally unstable man was lynched by a mob in Bareilly's Bhojipura area, and "outsiders" were caught and thrashed at night by locals in parts of western UP on suspicion of being "drone thieves" -- people presumed to use drones to recce an area before targeting houses for burglary or arson. Sensing public disorder, UP police have already launched night patrols from 11pm to 3am in some areas, along with awareness campaigns with village heads, and created a "drone register" to identify legitimate operators. Police further clarified that drone use at night has been barred completely to prevent chaos and panic. There have also been several arrests of "drone rumour suspects" in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad and Bareilly, along with some of those involved in "mob attacks". In the latest such case in Muzaffarnagar, three persons were held for allegedly using pigeons fitted with LED lights -- in the night sky -- to mimic drone activity and purportedly spread fear. On Saturday night, a 55-year-old mentally challenged person roaming in a village in the district was targeted by locals. Three men were later arrested. SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said six people have been arrested in the district so far for spreading "drone thief" rumours. In Meerut, eight people were arrested on Saturday. SSP Vipin Tada said cyber surveillance teams also tracked misinformation on social media platforms, so far detecting 19 fake posts on Instagram, seven on Facebook and two on X (formerly Twitter). Late on Friday, a 22-year-old woman working in Noida, who was on a visit to her boyfriend's house in Bareilly, was tied to a pole and mercilessly thrashed by residents after being mistaken for part of a "drone thief gang". First witness testifies against Sheikh Hasina in trial for 2024 Bangladesh protest violence

The first witness in the trial of Bangladesh's fugitive ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina gave evidence on Sunday, a man shot in the face during protests that toppled her last year. Former Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina. (File Photo/AP) Hasina, 77, who has defied court orders to return from India to attend her trial on charges amounting to crimes against humanity, is accused of ordering a deadly crackdown in a failed bid to crush the student-led uprising. Up to 1,400 people were killed between July and August 2024, according to the United Nations. The first witness, among the 11 cases that the prosecution is expected to present to the court, was Khokon Chandra Barman, whose story reflects the violence of the protests. The 23-year-old wears a mask to conceal his face, which was ripped apart by gunshot during the culmination of the protests on August 5, 2024, the same day that Hasina fled Dhaka by helicopter. "I want justice for the ordeal I've been going through, and for my fellow protesters who sacrificed their lives," he told the court. Barman lost his left eye, while his right eye was damaged, as well as his lips, nose and teeth. A video showing Barman's blood-covered face was played in court, with the opening statements aired on the state-run broadcaster. Prosecutors have filed five charges against Hasina -- including failure to prevent mass murder -- which amount to crimes against humanity under Bangladeshi law. "Sheikh Hasina was the nucleus around whom all the crimes committed during the July-August uprising revolved," chief prosecutor Tajul Islam told the court on Sunday. Hasina is on trial in absentia alongside two other accused. One, her former interior minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, is also a fugitive. The other, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the former inspector general of police, is in custody. He has pleaded guilty. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman said he wanted a "fair trial", speaking to reporters outside the court. "People were killed and maimed -- we demand the highest punishment for the crimes committed," Asaduzzaman said. Amir Hossain, the state-appointed lawyer for Hasina, noted that Barman was shot during the chaotic final day of the weeks-long protests. He pointed out that several police officers were also killed in clashes with protesters and it was "unclear who actually shot Barman". Hossain said he was not in contact with Hasina, who has refused to accept the authority of the court. The trial continues.

Mumbai crime branch arrests couple for forging documents for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

Mumbai: In a drive against illegal Bangladeshi migrants, the city Crime Branch arrested a couple for allegedly running an elaborate racket of forging Indian identity documents for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The arrested accused were identified as Purushottam Prasad Sharma (57) and his wife Manju Purushottam Sharma alias Manju alias Altaf Shaikh (42), residents of Malad (West). According to officials, the duo was involved in fabricating Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, voter IDs, and bank documents to facilitate the illegal stay of Bangladeshi nationals in India. Acting on a tip-off, a team from unit 11 of the crime branch raided the couple's residence at Sai Savli Co-operative Housing Society, New MHADA Colony, on Friday and recovered a huge pile of documents. During the search, police recovered a laptop, four mobile phones with SIM cards, forged identity documents including two Aadhaar cards in different names, two PAN cards, and a voter ID linked to Manju Sharma. Officials also seized bank passbooks, cheque books, and a red-coloured pen drive believed to contain data related to the racket's operations. Police suspect that the accused were part of a larger network assisting Bangladeshi nationals in fabricating Indian citizenship documents to settle illegally in the country. The accused also had contacts with agents operating in Bangladesh, as evidenced by transaction records and call data retrieved from their devices. "The modus operandi involved creating forged Aadhaar and PAN cards using fake credentials and opening bank accounts in Indian financial institutions. This documentation was then used by illegal immigrants to claim Indian citizenship and avail public services," a Crime Branch official said. Both accused were arrested on Saturday under Sections 318 (4), 336 (2), 336 (3), 338, 340 (2), 61 (2), 249, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with charges under the Passport Act, Foreigners Act, and Foreigners Order. The duo was produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to police custody. Police are now probing the possible involvement of other agents and middlemen in the racket and suspect a wider interstate and cross-border network facilitating illegal immigration through document forgery.
