'Sometimes 9-5 is Best': Why Mumbai Man's Rs 40 Lakh Startup Fail Post Has Resonated With Reddit
A Redditor from Mumbai recently shared a disastrous story of a man who brazenly followed his dreams only to end up losing a whopping capital of Rs 40 Lakh. Sat at a local tapri shop, the chai stall owner, Ali, approached the Reddit user and enquired him about a possible job opportunity for a friend who was going through the tough times.
Ali, then narrated the story of his friend, who dreamed big while working a telesales job in Malad, and decided to leave his '9 to 5" job.
Here's what happened next…
Shattered Dreams
The Mumbai man, according to the now-viral post, took a two-year gamble to open a Mobile shop, leaving behind his stable '9 to 5" job that gave him a steady monthly income of Rs 26K along with incentives. The man opened the shop in a high-profile locality, happy that the dream he had visualised was now a tangible reality. He decided to go all in – leave his job, invest his life savings into a dream, and hire a team.
'Dude left his stable job (last drawn 26k + incentives), dreamt big, opened the shop in a high-profile locality. Hired a full team, spent bomb on fancy repairing gear, went all-in hoping things would take off," the user wrote.
In months that followed, the man who had dreamt big was faced with reality. His 'dream job" bled money. With no cash to pay salaries, the hired team had to be let go. And just like that, his and life savings were all gone.
9-5 Isn't 'That' Bad
The OP narrated the story in hopes of conveying a message to the hustlers out there who dare to dream big but in the process get carried away and end up in a miserable place where they are broke and desperate to pick up any job in hopes of coming out of the well of bankruptcy.
'We see these hustle stories everywhere 'Go big or go home," 'Follow your dreams" but rarely do we hear about the flipside, about betting the house and losing it," the user wrote before adding, 'I'm not saying don't dream, just dream with your eyes open. Take risks, sure, but also know your limits. Don't throw in your lifelong savings in one shot. If things go wrong, trust me, there are very few people left to clean up the mess."
OP further wrote that a proper planning or perhaps a safety net would be ideal and that there was no shame in being in a stable job, especially when you are the only earning member of the family who brings food to the table.
9-5 In Pop Culture
Wake Up Sid
The 2009 Bollywood movie directed by Ayan Mukerji showed a spoiled brat Siddharth (Ranbir Kapoor) who was fresh out of college and had no aspirations. His father, a wealthy businessman, makes a deal with his son that if he joined his business and did the conventional '9-5" job, he would reward him with a luxury car. Sid, with no interest in his father's business or desire to show up like the other 'boring" people in the corporate setup did, decides to follow his passion in photography.
3 Idiots
In his final year of engineering at ICE College, Farhan Qureshi, portrayed by R. Madhavan, confesses to his father that he skipped a job interview, realizing he would be an unhappy and ineffective engineer. Rejecting the conventional corporate 'naukri" to meet societal expectations, Farhan chooses wildlife photography instead. Though it means earning less and living in a modest apartment, pursuing his passion promises true happiness and fulfillment, far from the typical engineering career or a nau se paanch.

India key driver of future growth for Nestle: Suresh Narayanan
New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) India will be a 'key driver of growth for the future' for Nestle which has 'faith" in the market that offers a 'large consumption basket', according to Suresh Narayanan, the outgoing Chairman & Managing Director of its Indian arm. The economic and political stability offered by India coupled with 'high consumer resonance' of the company's brands make it an attractive market, he told PTI in an interview. The Swiss FMCG major, which had faced an existential crisis with the Maggi fiasco in 2015, has long left behind the chapter and is investing to enhance capacity, product innovations, expansion of sales network to digitisation for having a 'value added journey", said Narayanan who will be retiring by end of July. 'I can foresee that even if I am not there at the helm, but the market attraction, the levels of investment and the future of Nestle will continue to be bright in this country," he said when asked how he saw Nestle in the next five years in India. Elaborating, he said, 'I think we will then become a much larger entity, a much more robust entity in terms of products that we have, a much more deeper entity in terms of the geographies and the manufacturing presence that we have, and overall, a much more impactful company than even what we are today. So by 2030 I think we will have a double-digit growth." Nestle India's compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) for the last 10 years has been about 10 to 11 per cent, and despite the current patch, which has not been good, particularly for most consumer goods companies in India due to consumption slow down in the urban market, Narayanan said, adding he expects to get back to double-digit growth path. 'Consumption will come back in this country and I think we will get back to the double-digit growth," he said. Asked if he saw India becoming among the top five global markets of the Swiss FMCG giant Nestle SA in the coming years, Narayanan said, 'India (market) is very well placed. India has had a very good track record." In the last 10 years, investment by Nestle India has gone up from about 2 per cent of sales to about 10 per cent of sales. 'So it's been almost dramatic. Almost Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 6,500 crore is the amount of money that we have invested in creating new capacities," he said. This investment is because of two factors – the performance of the Indian market and, more importantly, the 'faith in India" market of Nestle, he added. India offers a large consumption basket with economic and political stability, and the relative stature of the company is high in the country, he said, adding, 'the consumer resonance is high for our brands and therefore, we look at India as a very promising market". He expects Nestle India to be a 'more robust entity" in terms of its geographies and manufacturing presence, regaining its double-digit growth journey with a revival in the consumption cycle. When asked about the next phase of Nestle's growth in India, Narayanan said it will look to accelerate its penetration-led volume growth journey, which has yielded positive results for the company over the last decade. He expects Nestle India, which is now an over Rs 20,000 crore (nearly USD 2.5 billion) entity, to 'become a much larger entity, a much more robust entity in terms of products that we have, a much deeper entity in terms of the geographies and the manufacturing presence" in the next five years by 2030. India is among the top ten global markets for the Vevey (Switzerland)-based company. It is a globally leading market for food brand Maggi and the second largest for its confectionery brand KITKAT According to Narayanan, Nestle's 'thinking globally and acting locally" policy helps to customise offerings and to customise products to the local context. 'A lot of investments are guided by three things, opportunity, salience and future growth and returns that you can get all these three, I think India satisfies the checklist extremely well. So that's why I have the confidence that India can continue to be like it is for many, for some companies, can be a key, key driver of growth for the future," he said. Nestle India, which has been present in India for over a century, is now setting up its tenth factory, which is coming at Odisha. Narayanan expects it to be operational in next couple of years. About the next phase of Nestle's growth in India, Narayanan said it will look at accelerating its penetration-led volume growth journey which has given positive results to the company in the last decade. Nestle under its 'Rurban strategy" will continue to expand its presence in the small rural markets, as rural India is opening up. Nestle India is creating infrastructure for the portfolio in order to increase the penetration of its brands. Besides, Nestle India is also increasing its play in the premium segment, which is having fast growth after the pandemic, with shift in consumer purchase behaviour towards more value-based products. 'Premium products, which have been growing at about 16 per cent for us in the last 10 years, will continue to accelerate. Therefore, whether it is Nespresso or Nescafe Gold or premium chocolates or premium food items or premium nutrition items, these will get accelerated in the country," he said. Nestle will also amplify its activity in the digital and analytics side, which will take a 'quantum leap". 'We have already made progress, but I think there is a lot more that can be done in this field. The company is preparing itself for it," said Narayanan. Moreover, Nestle will continue to pursue innovation-led growth, which was paced up by the company after the Maggi crisis, which happened a decade ago. 'Innovation, which is today at about 7 per cent (of sales), we hope will reach about 10 per cent of sales," he said. Hydraulic parking facility at Maurya Lok lies idle
1 2 Patna: Despite being inaugurated five months ago, the hydraulic multi-level car parking facility at Maurya Lok Complex remains underutilised with vehicles still being parked haphazardly on the premises. Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL) has resolved to take corrective measures, including the imposition of fines on those parking outside the designated facility. Animesh Kumar Parashar, managing director of PSCL, said the vehicles of employees working in various govt offices located within the Maurya Lok Complex would now be required to use the multi-level parking facility. "For this, we are asking for a list of vehicle numbers from all the offices. There are around 40 offices here, including the passport office, different banks, NABARD, HUIDCO and various food and garment shops. They have to park their vehicles inside the parking facility. The parking will be done on a first-come, first-served policy," Parashar said. He added, "Our first priority is to fill this multi-level car parking. If it remains empty while cars are still being parked outside, a fine will be imposed. Even visitors must use the parking facility. They can also pre-book parking slots." The hydraulic multi-level parking structure, constructed at a cost of over Rs 28 crore, is equipped with a shuttle dolly system that transports cars between the ground level and upper floors. The facility also includes parking sensors, CCTV surveillance and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. Two parking units have been built — one inside the Maurya Lok premises and another near Budh Marg — with a combined capacity to accommodate 156 vehicles. Of these, one tower is designed for 96 vehicles and the other for 60. Although the facility was inaugurated in Feb this year, fewer than 20 cars use it daily.

A consortium led by Multiples Alternate Asset Management has approached the Competition Commission of India (CCI) seeking approval to acquire a 32% stake in luggage maker VIP Industries, according to a notice filed with the regulator. The application follows the July 13 announcement that VIP Industries' promoters — Dilip Piramal and family — will sell up to 32% of their shareholding to the Multiples-led group. The proposed acquisition will trigger a mandatory open offer for an additional 26% stake from public shareholders, in accordance with Sebi's takeover code, PTI reported. Assuming full acceptance of the open offer, the deal is valued at Rs 1,437.78 crore. Upon completion, control of the company will shift to Multiples, although the Piramal family will remain shareholders. Dilip Piramal will be designated Chairman Emeritus. The investor consortium includes Multiples Private Equity Fund IV (MPEF), Multiples Private Equity Gift Fund IV (MPGF), Samvibhag Securities (a portfolio company of investor Akash Bhanshali), and Caratlane founder Mithun Padam Sacheti and his brother Siddhartha Sacheti. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Profitex Shares and Securities is also part of the transaction. 'The proposed combination will not lead to any change in the competitive dynamics, let alone cause any appreciable adverse effect on competition in India,' the consortium stated in its CCI filing. It also noted that defining a relevant market could be left open, consistent with previous CCI practice. Multiples focuses on core sectors such as financial services, pharma and healthcare, consumer, and technology. Samvibhag Securities represents interests aligned with Bhanshali. As of June 2025, promoter entities held 51.73% in VIP Industries. With a market capitalisation of Rs 6,389.47 crore, the Mumbai-based firm competes with Samsonite and Safari Industries in the premium and mass segments. It owns brands like VIP, Aristocrat, Skybags, Carlton, and Caprese, and had over 50% market share in India's branded luggage space in FY24. However, increasing competition has begun to eat into VIP's share. For FY25, the company reported revenue of Rs 2,169.66 crore. Founded in 1971, VIP is Asia's largest and the world's second-largest luggage manufacturer, with over 10,000 retail points across 45 countries.
