George Lucas reveals new details about Lucas Museum during Comic-Con 2025

George Lucas made his first-ever appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, offering a first look at the long-anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The panel, held in the convention's largest venue, drew more than 6,000 attendees and closed out the four-day event with one of its most widely attended sessions on Sunday, July 27. Joined by director Guillermo del Toro, Lucasfilm executive Doug Chiang and moderator Queen Latifah, the 'Star Wars' director discussed the museum's mission and revealed new details ahead of its 2026 opening in Los Angeles' Exposition Park. 'Society cannot exist without a common belief system,' Lucas said. 'And that's where illustration is vital to show you what that means in everyday life.' He described the museum as 'a temple to the people's art.' The $1 billion institution, co-founded by Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, will focus on narrative art across cultures and periods — from ancient cave paintings to comic books and digital media. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art was originally proposed for San Francisco, where Lucas aimed to build the institution in the Presidio on a former Army commissary site at Crissy Field near the Golden Gate Bridge. Despite strong political support from figures including then-Gov. Jerry Brown and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the Presidio Trust ultimately rejected the proposal, citing concerns over the scale and design. Lucas then explored a location in Chicago, which also fell through following a legal challenge from a local preservation group. After years of delays and shifting plans, Lucas selected Los Angeles' Exposition Park in 2017 as the museum's permanent home. Del Toro, who serves on the museum's board, compared the museum's focus to the canonization of pop culture. 'Imagine if we only had classical music, and rock 'n' roll was never created?' he said. 'This is rock 'n' roll and rock 'n' roll needs to be enshrined.' Chiang noted that comic and magazine art were once 'looked down upon,' but said the museum will elevate underrecognized creators. 'They are acknowledging and giving respect to artists who really haven't been highlighted before,' he said. The panel ended with a standing ovation. The museum remains on track to open next year despite recent layoffs and leadership changes.

Go behind the scenes with the ‘Alien: Earth' cast at Comic-Con 2025

SAN DIEGO — Sydney Chandler has wanted to attend San Diego Comic-Con as a fan for years. So it's 'surreal' that the actor's first experience with the annual pop culture expo is to promote her upcoming FX series 'Alien: Earth.' Chandler stars in the 'Alien' prequel as Wendy, a young girl whose consciousness has been transferred to an android. 'To be able to do it in this capacity is just mind-blowing,' she tells The Times in advance of the show's Hall H premiere on Friday. 'It's emotional because we worked on this for so long and I learned so much. … I'm kind of at a loss of words.' She does have words of appreciation, though, including for what she's learned from her character. 'Her journey of finding out how to hold her own and stand on her own two feet taught me so much,' says Chandler. 'I'm an overthinker. I'm an anxious person. I would have run so fast. I would not be as brave as her, but she taught me … that it's OK to just stand on your own two feet, and that's enough. That's powerful.' Even before the show's Hall H panel, fans have gathered on the sidewalk outside of the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego to catch a glimpse of Chandler and her 'Alien: Earth' cast mates Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin and Babou Ceesay, along with creator Noah Hawley and executive producer David Zucker, on their short trek to the bus that would transport them to the convention center for the show's world premiere. On the ride over, Hawley betrays no nerves about people seeing the first episode. 'I really think, in a strange way, it plays for all ages because it is about growing up on some level,' says the showrunner. 'But it's also 'Alien,' and it is a meditation on power and corporate power. ' Huddled together on the bus with Lawther and Blenkin, Ceesay is surprised to learn that this is the first time attending San Diego Comic-Con for all three. There's plenty of good-natured ribbing as they talk about the early interviews they've completed at the event. 'I just sort of want to make jokes with you all the time,' says Lawther as he looks towards his cast mates. 'I find it quite giddy in the experience, and I had to remind myself that I'm a professional.' 'Sometimes the British sarcasm instinct just kicks in,' Blenkin adds. Their playful dynamic continues as they joke about crashing Ceesay's other panel, and also backstage at Hall H as they try to sneak up on each other in the dark. After the panel, the cast is whisked away for video interviews and signing posters at a fan meet-and-greet at a booth on the exhibit floor. ('Timothy, you're the man!' shouts a fan passing by.) Later, Hawley, Chandler and Ceesay will hit the immersive 'Alien: Earth' activation where they will explore the wreckage of a crashed ship. 'It's such a safe space for people who just enjoy cinema and enjoy film,' Chandler says of Comic-Con. 'And that's me. I'm a complete nerd for all this stuff, so just to be around that group — it reminds me of why I love film so much in the first place.'

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Sets Season 2 Premiere, Casts Fan-Favorite Roles for Season 3

Camp Half-Blood relocated to San Diego Thursday, bringing a slew of announcements about Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The cast and showrunners of the Disney+ series appeared at Comic-Con for a panel that included news about the coming second season, as well as a key piece of casting for season three, which the streamer ordered shortly after filming on season two wrapped earlier in the year. More from The Hollywood Reporter From 'South Park' to George Lucas' First Comic-Con: Inside the Most Anticipated Panels Disney+ Sets Release Date for K-Drama Tentpole 'Tempest' Starring Gianna Jun, Gang Dong-won Gabby Windey to Host Alex Cooper's 'Love Overboard' Reality Dating Series For starters, Percy Jackson author and series co-creator/executive producer Rick Riordan announced in a video message that season two, based on Riordan's second Percy Jackson book, The Sea of Monsters, will premiere Dec. 10. The session also featured the debut of a teaser trailer for the coming season, including the first look at Daniel Diemer as Tyson, the cyclops who befriends Percy (Walker Scobell), and a very brief glimpse at a chariot race at camp. Watch it below. Executive producer Craig Silverstein said of the race, 'The chariot track is the most amazing set I've been on in my whole career. It's going to be a sequence that blows you guys away because it blew me away.' Moderator Timothy Simons, who guest stars as Tantalus in season two, joked that 'I've never been on anything that had a fire budget.' Riordan also announced — to screams from the crowd in Hall H — that the show has found actors to play the fan-favorite roles of Nico and Bianca di Angelo, two young demigods who will become part of the story in the third season. Levi Chrisopulos will play Nico and be a series regular, and Olive Abercrombie will have a recurring role as Bianca. Chrisopulos has appeared on stage in a touring production of Peter Pan and guest-starred on CBS' FBI in 2024. Abercrombie's TV credits include Mayfair Witches and Outer Range. Production on season three, which is based on The Titan's Curse, is slated to begin soon. Along with Scobell and Diemer, the Comic-Con panel featured castmembers Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell and Dior Goodjohn and executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg, Dan Shotz and Silverstein. Steinberg and Shotz are the showrunners of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. They executive produce season two with Silverstein, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, The Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler and Sarah Watson.
