'Crime capital of India': Rahul Gandhi slams Nitish, BJP over Patna murder
The businessman, Gopal Khemka ,was shot dead near his residence in the Gandhi Maidan area late Friday night by a bike-borne assailant. Police said the incident occurred around 11:40 pm as he was about to get out of his car. His son had also been murdered in Hajipur seven years ago.

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, 'The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven that the BJP and Nitish Kumar together have turned Bihar into India's crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the new normal here — and the government is utterly ineffective.'
'Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice can no longer be tolerated. A government that cannot ensure the safety of your children cannot be entrusted with your future either,' he added.
The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha called upon voters to bring change in the upcoming assembly elections. 'Every murder, every loot, every bullet is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar — where there is no fear, only progress. This time, the vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar,' he said.
Political backlash, SIT formed
The murder, coming just months ahead of the state assembly polls, has drawn strong reactions from opposition leaders. Rashtriya Janata Dal's Tejashwi Yadav called it a 'horrible' incident and criticised the state's law enforcement. 'The CM is unconscious and tired; officers are running the government,' he told news agency ANI.
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan visited Khemka's family and assured that law and order agencies would be made more proactive. 'I hope strict action will be taken under the law as soon as possible,' he said.
The Bihar police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), including officials from the Special Task Force and central district police, to investigate the case. (With inputs from agencies)

BJP not doing enough to uplift tribals: RG
Panaji: Revolutionary Goans on Saturday blamed BJP-led govt for not doing enough to uplift the tribals in the state. The party said that chief minister Pramod Sawant, despite holding the post for six years, failed to clear the pending cases of forest rights claims (FRC). RG treasurer Ajay Kholkar said that govt gave several assurances, but denied political reservation for Goa's tribal community. 'The community has been fighting for political resolution. We have held protests to fight for our rights, and govt forced us to come on the streets, and yet BJP-led govt has not met our demand,' said Kholkar. RG said that contrary to Sawant's claims about working for the betterment of the tribals, BJP thwarted efforts to empower the ST community. 'It failed to resolve pending FRC cases. Govt has not built the Tribal Bhavan and failed to address land issues. The Tribal Research Centre exists only in name, as no research has been conducted there till date,' said Kholkar. The party has demanded that all the 10,000-odd pending FRC cases be cleared as soon as possible. It has also demanded that govt appoint a full-time company secretary for the Goa Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Corporation Ltd.

"Dreaming" about coming to power: BRS MLC K Kavitha lashes out at Congress, BJP
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 6 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha on Sunday hit out at the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, saying that both the parties were 'dreaming' about coming to power in the state. She expressed confidence that her party will return to power in Telangana, as they have stood firmly with marginalised groups. She said that the Congress government in the state has 'utterly failed' while the BJP has 'sabotaged' the MLC membership of a leader belonging to the Yerukula community. 'Today, the Congress Govt has utterly failed in Telangana. In a short span of 18 months, they have failed every section and failed to address everybody. They are hoping to come back to power, which is really something that the people of Telangana are unable to understand. However, at the same time, the BJP has directly affected the MLC membership of Satyanarayana, who belongs to the Yerukula community. When KCR gave him an MLC seat, they sabotaged his nomination and rejected it at the Governor level. This is nothing but political. Therefore, we believe that when you sabotage communities like this, you cannot regain power in Telangana. The BJP is only dreaming that it will come back to power. Congress is also dreaming, but BRS is the only party that stood by these communities, and we are going to come back to power,' Kavitha told ANI. Earlier, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) accepted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's public challenge to debate on what each government has done for Telangana's farmers. In a sharp rebuttal delivered at Telangana Bhavan, KTR invited Revanth to fix the date, time, and place of the discussion, declaring his readiness to face the debate 'anywhere, anytime.' KTR took a jibe at the Chief Minister's preparedness, stating, 'Revanth Reddy doesn't even have basic knowledge of agriculture. I am generously giving him 72 hours to prepare. Otherwise, he'll show up and talk about 'basins' and 'okra', making a mockery of himself and the office he holds.' He said even a bull next to a farmer could explain how agriculture thrived under the leadership of KCR. Accusing Revanth Reddy of acting as a covert ally of Chandrababu Naidu, KTR said Telangana's water resources were being diverted to Andhra Pradesh under the guise of projects like Banakacharla. 'Revanth is looting Telangana's water and funds, all to please his political mentor. This is not public governance, this is covert rule,' he alleged. Drawing a sharp contrast between the BRS and the Congress administrations, KTR said that while BRS ushered in 'Raithu Rajyam' (Farmer's Rule), the Congress has brought back a version of 'Emergency Rule' reminiscent of Indira Gandhi's regime. 'From punishing farmers to pushing them into endless queues for fertilisers, Congress has only brought suffering,' he added. (ANI)
