Following recent reports that NetEase is cutting back on funding for games, Rebel Wolves co-owner and chief publishing officer Tomasz Tinc assures the public that The Blood of Dawnwalker is still on the way.
Rebel Wolves, the studio founded by The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and Tinc in 2022, is working on its debut title The Blood of Dawnwalker – and despite circulating reports of financial cuts being made by NetEase, a recent LinkedIn post from Tinc confirms that the vampire RPG is safely in the works with its production "fully funded." Addressing the matter, the co-founder says the "rumored situation at NetEase" isn't a problem.
"I've also read the articles suggesting that Rebel Wolves may be in danger due to the rumored situation at NetEase," writes Tinc. "First and foremost, thank you for all the warm messages and wishes. The development of our game is progressing steadily, and we're facing no financial issues." The lead continues, explaining the role that NetEase actually plays in The Blood of Dawnwalker's production – and in the grand scheme of things, it sounds quite minor.
"The Blood of Dawnwalker's production is fully funded, and we work alongside our partners and friends from Bandai Namco, our game's global publisher, to bring the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga to life," describes Tinc. "The vast majority of Rebel Wolves' ownership rests in the hands of Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and other studio co-owners, all of whom are employed by Rebel Wolves. NetEase is Rebel Wolves' minority shareholder."
It's reassuring to hear, to say the least – especially with reported cancelations, delays, and layoffs seemingly on the rise within the gaming industry. As for The Blood of Dawnwalker, it's shaping up to be one of my most anticipated releases with the freedom it offers and its unique time mechanics – it might even end up being one of the best RPGs of recent years if its creators' past experience on smash hits like The Witcher 3 is anything to go by.

Watch this person play The Witcher 3 on their Galaxy Watch Ultra

TL;DR A Redditor has shown off GeForce Now running on the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The user's uploaded video shows them playing The Witcher 3 on the smartwatch. The smartwatch isn't actually doing any of the heavy lifting, but it's still a cool showcase. We've already seen people running retro games on their smartwatches thanks to emulators, but it turns out that you can also play full-fledged PC games on your Wear OS watch. Then again, I'm not sure why you'd want to do so in the first place. Redditor BranaMitrovicFloyd posted a video online showing GeForce Now running on the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The user was specifically playing 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with the aid of on-screen controls and a stylus. community on Reddit Posts from the galaxywatch community on Reddit It's worth stressing that this isn't actually running locally on the smartwatch, as GeForce Now is a game streaming service. That means NVIDIA's servers perform all the heavy lifting, and the gameplay is then streamed to your device via your internet connection. So, while this isn't a demonstration of the Galaxy Watch Ultra's horsepower, it does highlight the possibilities on this hardware. Of course, I'm not sure you'd actually want to play PC games on a smartwatch in the first place. The small screen makes things tough to see, while the virtual controls are simply too tiny for your fingers. On the upside, you can connect a Bluetooth controller to your watch if you're really committed to this endeavor. This also comes a few months after a Redditor got the PPSSPP emulator running on their Galaxy Watch 5. This was all running locally on the smartwatch, and the user was apparently able to play most PSP games at 60fps. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . The Blood of Dawnwalker developers share a look at gameplay from the upcoming vampire fantasy RPG

One of the games that really caught my eye during the Xbox Games Showcase at the beginning of June was The Blood of Dawnwalker , a dark fantasy action-RPG from Rebel Wolves, the studio co-founded by Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz . First teased earlier this year , The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player open-world game set in a version of 14th-century Europe that's crawling with vampires. The first two trailers gave us a bit of a glimpse at what the gameplay will be like, but the developer has now shared an in-depth look in a 21-minute video. It looks pretty sick — but keep in mind that this footage is from the "pre-beta" game, so there's still a lot of polishing to be done. In The Blood of Dawnwalker , "You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers to save your family." It's slated to hit PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.

The First ‘Blood of Dawnwalker' Gameplay Teases a Vampiric Adventure

The Witcher 3 turned 10 years old back in May, and if you've been hoping for an RPG like it, that's where Blood of Dawnwalker could come in. The fantasy-RPG from Rebel Wolves—made up of CD Projekt Red alums deeply involved with both Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077—is a ways out, but that's not stopping the studio from showing off some of its systems and its take on being half-vampire. Plotwise, the game is set in a fictional 14th century medieval Europe and stars Coen, who's been recently turned into a vampire/human hybrid. He's got 30 days and nights to save his family, which requires making choices throughout his journey and eventually dethroning the vampire lords and their leader Brencis. Despite the time limit, Bloodwalker is open-world, and time only moves forward during specific, clearly telegraphed missions. But a faceoff with Brencis is coming sooner or later, and Coen get either go that final battle alone or with the help of allies he makes nice with. Like other RPGs, Blood of Dawnwalker is mostly focused on combat, which involves melee weapons and magic. Players use melee weapons (or their claws at night) to attack in directions where enemies aren't blocking or parrying, while magical hexes drain Coen's health and let him do feats like burning enemies' blood. According to design director Daniel Sadowski, health doesn't regenerate during the day, so players have to replenish by eating food and can put skill points into abilities that reduce how much health gets drained while casting hexes. At night, Coen can use vampire abilities that offer more stealth capabilities, scope out areas, and get around the world in more interesting ways. Using his powers requires blood, and that means eating people, or animals and 'other creatures' if you like. In the footage above, Sadowski talks up the game's freedom and 'narrative sandbox,' which allows players to tackle quests how and whenever they like. This open-endedness was a big selling point of the Witcher games, and something Rebel Wolves is clearly leaning as it develops the first in what it hopes is the start of a rival fantasy franchise. We'll see how that fares when Blood of Dawnwalker releases in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Want more io9 news?
