The Blood of Dawnwalker developers share a look at gameplay from the upcoming vampire fantasy RPG
One of the games that really caught my eye during the Xbox Games Showcase at the beginning of June was The Blood of Dawnwalker , a dark fantasy action-RPG from Rebel Wolves, the studio co-founded by Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz . First teased earlier this year , The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player open-world game set in a version of 14th-century Europe that's crawling with vampires. The first two trailers gave us a bit of a glimpse at what the gameplay will be like, but the developer has now shared an in-depth look in a 21-minute video. It looks pretty sick — but keep in mind that this footage is from the "pre-beta" game, so there's still a lot of polishing to be done. In The Blood of Dawnwalker , "You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers to save your family." It's slated to hit PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.

The Witcher 3 director's upcoming vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker is "fully funded" and still on track, assures studio lead amid "rumored situation at NetEase"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Following recent reports that NetEase is cutting back on funding for games, Rebel Wolves co-owner and chief publishing officer Tomasz Tinc assures the public that The Blood of Dawnwalker is still on the way. Rebel Wolves, the studio founded by The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and Tinc in 2022, is working on its debut title The Blood of Dawnwalker – and despite circulating reports of financial cuts being made by NetEase, a recent LinkedIn post from Tinc confirms that the vampire RPG is safely in the works with its production "fully funded." Addressing the matter, the co-founder says the "rumored situation at NetEase" isn't a problem. "I've also read the articles suggesting that Rebel Wolves may be in danger due to the rumored situation at NetEase," writes Tinc. "First and foremost, thank you for all the warm messages and wishes. The development of our game is progressing steadily, and we're facing no financial issues." The lead continues, explaining the role that NetEase actually plays in The Blood of Dawnwalker's production – and in the grand scheme of things, it sounds quite minor. "The Blood of Dawnwalker's production is fully funded, and we work alongside our partners and friends from Bandai Namco, our game's global publisher, to bring the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga to life," describes Tinc. "The vast majority of Rebel Wolves' ownership rests in the hands of Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and other studio co-owners, all of whom are employed by Rebel Wolves. NetEase is Rebel Wolves' minority shareholder." It's reassuring to hear, to say the least – especially with reported cancelations, delays, and layoffs seemingly on the rise within the gaming industry. As for The Blood of Dawnwalker, it's shaping up to be one of my most anticipated releases with the freedom it offers and its unique time mechanics – it might even end up being one of the best RPGs of recent years if its creators' past experience on smash hits like The Witcher 3 is anything to go by. NetEase denies report that its CEO tried to cut Marvel from Marvel Rivals because he didn't want to pay Disney for the license

"I really hate how we did it": The Witcher 3 quest lead says there are parts of the iconic RPG he still wishes he could "time travel and fix"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Witcher 3 lead quest designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, who's now leading development on Rebel Wolves' Blood of Dawnwalker, has some regrets from his time at CD Projekt Red. It's genuinely hard to think of a more universally beloved RPG than The Witcher 3. I could go over its plentiful awards and accolades, but all you really need to know about its legacy is that it topped our list of the 100 best games of its generation back in 2020. Even still, Tomaszkiewicz tells GamesRadar+ there are things he hates so much about it that he'd go as far as to tempt the butterfly effect in order to go back in time and change them. "I still have stuff in The Witcher 3 that I hate about how we did it," Tomaszkiewicz says. "I really hate how we did it, and I would love to time travel and fix it." Tomaszkiewicz didn't get into any specifics of what he'd like to change, but he did say "we just took it into our next projects, and just learned from it." Tomaszkiewicz left CDPR in 2021 after 12 years with the studio, having also served as co-director on Cyberpunk 2077. He's now heading up Rebel Wolves alongside his brother and fellow CDPR alum Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. The studio's debut project, Blood of Dawnwalker, is an open-world RPG set in a dark fantasy world ravaged by plague and ruled by vampires. The main character, Coen, is turned into a human/vampire hybrid called a Dawnwalker, allowing him to navigate both day and night with vampiric powers. Blood of Dawnwalker has no release date yet, but it's getting a gameplay showcase this summer. The Witcher 3 director says he left CDPR to make his own open-world vampire game because "those rules of RPGs" can be bent and "a smaller team is capable of doing more."
