Nancy Shukri calls for thorough, transparent investigation into Kuching student's death in Cyberjaya

KUCHING (June 26): Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, has called for a thorough, fair and transparent investigation into the alleged murder of a 20-year-old university student from Kuching.
During a visit to the victim's family this morning, she offered her condolences and expressed hope that justice will be served.
'I pray the family will be given strength and resilience during this difficult time,' she said on Facebook, adding that the body was still en route from Serdang Hospital at the time of her visit.
Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara was found dead in her dormitory room at the Mutiara Ville condominium in Cyberjaya on Tuesday morning (June 24).
She had stayed behind for an exam while her five housemates left for the holidays on June 21.
Several of her belongings, including a laptop, were missing.
Videos circulating online showed police transporting the body to Serdang Hospital.
A post-mortem revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said there were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault.
'Based on the preliminary autopsy report, police deny allegations circulating on social media that the victim was raped and murdered,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have received three reports following the Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah 2.0 rally, which turned tense after a participant ignited a flare, sparking a scuffle between demonstrators and security personnel. The rally, organised by Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah and attended by around 100 participants, including student groups, began at Kompleks Sogo before moving towards Dataran Merdeka. Dang Wangi district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, said a participant lit a flare during the rally, releasing thick smoke that posed a safety risk to others. He said officers quickly intervened to contain the situation, but a brief scuffle ensued, resulting in minor injuries to a policeman. "During the preventive action taken, a minor scuffle broke out between rally participants and personnel from Op Aman, resulting in minor injuries to one policeman. "The situation was quickly brought under control by police," he said in a statement today. Foreign man found dead with stab wounds in plantation home
LAHAD DATU: A foreign man was found dead, believed to have been murdered, at an unnumbered house in an oil palm plantation in Ulu Segangan, Silabukan, earlier today. Lahad Datu deputy police chief, Superintendent Jimmy Panyau, said the 23-year-old victim was discovered with stab wounds on his back, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon. He said a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Lahad Datu district police headquarters was dispatched to the scene to carry out further investigations. "Following investigations at the location, police arrested a man and a woman, both aged 29, believed to be husband and wife. "Both were detained on the same day to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement today. Jimmy said a post-mortem examination will be conducted at Lahad Datu Hospital. He added that investigations are ongoing, including efforts to determine the motive behind the incident. "The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
