WATCH: Highlights of Carmen's Crew's opening matchup win of The Basketball Tournament

USA Today20-07-2025
There aren't nearly as many former Ohio State basketball players taking part on the so-called OSU alumni team known as "Carmen's Crew," in TBT action this year, but there are still a few. The team took home the title last year and is looking to defend that championship this year, and so far, so good.
"Carmen's Crew" won vs. GoTeam Green Machine on Sunday by a score of 78-67, and the team did it in a little different fashion, with different stars paving the way in Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Despite the score, it was a pretty close game, aside from a third quarter that made all the difference for Carmen's Crew. If you missed any of the action, thanks to the amazing efforts of the internet and the social media app known as "X" we've got the highlights for you to take in.
Here are the Cliff Notes highlights of Carmen's Crew's first step towards a TBT title defense.
Carmen's Crew will next be in action on Monday at 6 p.m. ET against the winner of Locked In Elite and Fort Wayne Champs.

Hugh Freeze discusses the 'flash' of Omar Mabson early in Auburn's fall camp

One freshman running back is turning heads at fall camp. One week into fall camp, and the Auburn running back room is just as much a mystery as it was at the beginning. Earlier this week, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze shared that running backs Jeremiah Cobb and Durell Robinson would be limited due to injury. However, on Saturday, Robinson returned to the practice field while Cobb remained out, and projected starter Damari Alston was held out due to a heel bruise. Limitations for Alston and Cobb left the door open for a true freshman to shine in front of his new coaches. Following Saturday's practice, Freeze shared that he was pleased with the efforts of his running backs that were able to practice, including one in particular. "Man, the other guys are showing up," Freeze said. "Durell (Robinson) had some explosive runs. Alvin (Henderson), there's still a little learning curve for him, for sure. But I tell you the one who is flashing is Omar (Mabson)." Mabson joined the roster a year earlier than anticipated after reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class and is quickly making strides with his new team. Freeze went on to say that Mabson is hard to tackle due to his 5-9, 213-pound frame and is great at finishing runs. Auburn's running back competition remains wide open with just over four weeks until the Tigers kick off the season at Baylor. With a mix of injuries and inexperience, the running back room will be fun to watch unfold as fall camp continues. Watch Hugh Freeze's press conference from Saturday here. Former star Alabama cornerback reportedly signs with NFL team

According to a report Saturday from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, former Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Levi Wallace is signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent. Wallace, a seven-year NFL veteran, had yet to sign with a team this offseason, and was among the list of former Alabama players still remaining in free agency. The former Alabama cornerback most recently played with the Denver Broncos during the 2024 season, starting 2-of-13 games played. During that span, Wallace had 28 tackles, which was the lowest total of his career, along with two passes defensed. Over his seven previous seasons in the league, Wallace has compiled 333 career tackles with seven TFL and 12 interceptions across 96 career games, 72 of which he started. Undrafted out of Alabama back in 2018, Jacksonville will also be Wallace's fourth NFL team, joining the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Broncos. Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski ranked among the best in the nation

Can Mark Gronowski be the catalyst that forces the Iowa Hawkeyes and Tim Lester's offense to take the next steps in the maturation and success? That is the growing expectation surrounding the proven winner and two-time national champion transfer from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. After foregoing the NFL and declining other Power 4 offers, Mark Gronowski joined the Iowa Hawkeyes with the chance to create something special. The jump from the FCS ranks, where he was one of, if not the best, quarterbacks in the nation, to the Big Ten is a drastic change, but one that many believe Gronowski can handle. Phil Steele is one of those who believe he can be the missing piece for Iowa. Phil Steele is high on Gronowski to the point that in his recent college football quarterback rankings, he has Mark Gronowski as No. 18 QB in all of college football, a spot that has him among some of the biggest household names in the Big Ten and all of the sport. The reason for the excitement makes sense. Gronowski dominated at the FCS level, winning back-to-back titles while stuffing the stat sheet. He threw for 10,330 yards and 93 touchdowns while protecting the ball with just 20 interceptions. He also ran for 1,767 yards and 37 more touchdowns on the ground. Big Ten quarterbacks also included in Steele's rankings are Penn State's Drew Allar at No. 6, UCLA's Nico Iamaleava at No. 8, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza at No. 14, and Illinois' Luke Altmyer at No. 17. Iowa State QB Rocco Becht cracked the top 10, coming in at No. 10.
