Statues along Godavari Bund to be arranged uniformly
Rajamahendravaram: Rajahmundry MLA Adireddy Srinivas has clarified that there are no plans to remove the statues of 13 prominent personalities installed along the Godavari Bund.
Speaking at an all-party meeting organised by the Rajahmundry Heritage Protection Committee at Krishna Sai Kalyana Mandapam on Thursday, the MLA dismissed rumours suggesting otherwise.
He stated that as part of the Riverfront Beautification Project, the existing statues will not be removed but will be arranged uniformly to enhance the aesthetic appeal. The MLA assured that the construction of the riverfront will not affect the traditional Pindala Revu, and alternative arrangements for performing ancestral rituals will be made near the adjacent cowshed area.
He also said that priests and devotees performing shraddha karmas would not face any inconvenience due to the new development. Furthermore, he announced that the tender process for the beautification of the iconic Havelock Bridge as a tourist spot has been completed with an outlay of Rs 100 crore. An additional Rs 50 crore will be spent on upgrading the river ghats.
District Congress President TK Visweswara Reddy, who coordinated the meeting, commended the government's efforts in bringing the central office of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University to Rajamahendravaram. He demanded the immediate conduct of municipal corporation elections for accelerated urban development, especially ahead of the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams, which are expected to draw lakhs of pilgrims.
He further urged the immediate inauguration of the completed Science Museum in Bommuru and proposed setting up a waste-to-energy power plant in the city as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state.
Prominent advocate Madduri Siva Subbarao presided over the all-party meeting.
YSR Congress Party spokesperson Margani Bharat Ram called for the construction of a service road adjacent to the Morampudi Flyover and the installation of streetlights atop the structure. He also demanded additional flyovers from Vemagiri Junction to Diwan Cheruvu to ease traffic congestion in view of the city's growing population.
CPI district secretary T Madhu requested the installation of a statue of former and the first MLA Chitturi Prabhakara Choudary along the Godavari Bund.
CPM district secretary T Arun mentioned the city's drinking water issues and urged for immediate flood mitigation measures.
The all-party meeting concluded with the passing of several resolutions, which will be submitted to the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner, urging swift implementation, said Madduri Siva Subbarao.
Former MLA Routhu Suryaprakasa Rao, Desireddy Balarama Naidu, Madeti Ravi Prakash, KK Sanjeeva Rao, Abdulla Sharif, Asadullah Ahmed, and P Kondalarao were among the attendees.

Lalit Modi's Plea Seeking BCCI To Pay ED Penalty Dismissed By Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Monday junked a plea filed by former cricket administrator Lalit Modi seeking an order to the BCCI to pay a penalty of Rs 10.65 crore imposed on him by the ED for violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan, however, said Modi will be entitled to avail civil remedies as available according to law. The Bombay High Court on December 19 last year had imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on Modi while dismissing his petition seeking an order to the BCCI to pay a penalty of Rs 10.65 crore imposed on him by the Enforcement Directorate for violating FEMA. The high court had said the petition was "frivolous and wholly misconceived" as the adjudication authority under FEMA has imposed the penalty on Modi. Modi, in his plea, said he was appointed as vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, during which period he was also the chairman of the Indian Premier League governing body, a subcommittee of the BCCI. The plea claimed that the BCCI is supposed to indemnify him as per the bylaws. The HC bench, however, referred to a Supreme Court judgment of 2005, which said the BCCI does not fall under the definition of a 'state' as defined under Article 12 of the Constitution. Despite clear orders from the apex court, Modi filed this petition in 2018, the HC bench noted. "In matters of alleged indemnification of the petitioner (Modi) in the context of penalties imposed upon the petitioner by the ED, there is no question of discharge of any public function, and therefore, for this purpose, no writ could be issued to the BCCI," the HC had said. "In any event, the reliefs are wholly misconceived. This petition is frivolous, and accordingly, we dismiss this petition," the court had said and directed Modi to pay a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the Tata Memorial Hospital within four weeks. YSRCP to expose govt's unfulfilled promises
Kurnool: YSR Congress Party's district-level meeting focused on exposing the alliance government's failures and launching the 'Recall Chandrababu Manifesto', accessible via a QR code, to highlight unfulfilled promises. The meeting, held at Lakshmi Kalyana Mandapam in Kurnool on Sunday, was presided over by district president SV Mohan Reddy. Key leaders, including Regional Coordinator Peddi Reddy Ramachandra Reddy and District Observer Gangula Prathap Reddy, attended. Peddi Reddy and Gangula Prathap Reddy criticised the TDP-JSP alliance for making deceptive pre-election promises, distributing fake bond papers worth Rs 2.4 lakh per household, and failing to deliver on their 'Super Six' guarantees. They accused Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan of responding aggressively to questions about these promises. SV Mohan Reddy questioned the alliance's credibility, noting that pro-TDP media spread false claims about new industries, while none were established. Former MP Butta Renuka highlighted public regret over the coalition's betrayal, with growing discontent within a year of its tenure. MLC Madhusudan, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Errabothula Papi Reddy, and several MLAs and former MLAs raised concerns about rising essential commodity prices, increased land registration charges, and deteriorating law and order. The party resolved to conduct constituency-level outreach programmes to inform every household about the alliance's failures and restore public trust, emphasising their commitment to addressing these issues.
