Naidu launches Annadatha Sukhibhava
Launching the Rs 3,175 crore statewide initiative, the Chief Minister handed over a cheque to two farmers as a symbolic gesture and another Rs 29 crore cheque specific to Darsi constituency, according to a video link shared by the government. "No other thing gives me this much happiness. Sitting in a field under the sun we transferred Rs 7,000, including central funds. This is history," said Naidu, addressing farmers in the middle of a field.
After the conclusion of the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech from Varanasi at the launch of the PM Kisan programme at the national level, Chandrababu Naidu interacted with farmers, women, youth, and locals at the launch of Annadatha Sukhibhava-PM Kisan programme. He mentioned that the scheme marked the fulfillment of the coalition government's election promise to provide Rs 20,000 annually to farmers in three installments.
Clubbing the Centre's contribution of Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan and the state's contribution of Rs 14,000, Andhra Pradesh aims to disburse Rs 20,000 per annum to eligible farmers under the Annadatha Sukhibhava-PM Kisan scheme in three installments.
The Chief Minister said that in the first phase, Rs 7,000 was being transferred to the bank accounts of 46,85,838 farmers across the state. He explained that the benefit includes Rs 5,000 as the state's contribution and Rs 2,000 from the central government under the PM Kisan scheme. He said that the total outlay for this phase amounted to Rs 3,175 crore, with the state government allocating Rs 2,343 crores and the Centre contributing Rs 832 crore. For Prakasam district alone, Rs 186 crore had been earmarked, benefiting 2,65,317 farmers, while the Darsi Assembly constituency would receive Rs 29 crore towards 42,786 beneficiary farmers, with Darsi mandal getting Rs 7.36 crore towards 10,972 farmers.
Chandrababu Naidu observed that he could see pervasive happiness among farmers and remarked: 'The farmer is always a king.' The Chief Minister announced plans to provide technological knowledge to farmers, including crop advisory services based on scientific studies. Soon, farmers could access scheme-related information through the Annadatha Sukhibhava portal or by calling the toll-free number 155251.
Chandrababu Naidu highlighted significant achievements in agricultural modernization, while appreciating that Andhra Pradesh ranked first nationally in drip irrigation coverage.
He amplified that the government had expanded drip irrigation to 1,17,880 hectares, benefiting 1.11 lakh farmers with subsidies ranging from 70 per cent to 100 per cent, based on region and caste categories. The Chief Minister told farmers that the government had introduced 875 Kisan drones for agricultural services and had plans to procure an additional 1,000 drones. He explained to them that market interventions had ensured remunerative prices for various crops, with the government paying Rs 273 crore for tobacco, Rs 172 crore for mango farmers, while fixing Rs 11,781 per quintal as the minimum selling price for chillies.
Referring to the sudden spike in American taxes on Indian merchandise, Naidu said these duties would hurt aquaculture farmers and promised to chart out an action plan on how to deal with this matter after meeting with aquaculture representatives in a few days. Stating that the US had hiked duties by 25 per cent, Naidu said this would affect Indian farmers. Considering these factors, the CM said, he would guide farmers on what crop to plant and how to go further.

Supreme Court stays defamation proceedings against Rahul Gandhi over India-China border remark
The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks insulting the Indian Army. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi had allegedly said, 'Chinese troops are thrashing Indian Army soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh,' referring to the December 9, 2022, face-off in the Tawang sector. A Bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Joymalya Bagchi expressed disapproval of Rahul Gandhi's claim that 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory had been occupied by China, adding that 'if he were a true Indian, he would not have said all this.' 'How do you know that 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory were occupied by the Chinese? Were you there? Do you have any credible material? If you were a true Indian, you would not say all this. When there is a conflict across the order, is it unusual to have casualties on both sides?' the Justice Datta-led Bench asked senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Rahul Gandhi. 'Whatever you have to say, why don't you say it in the Parliament? Why do you have to say this in social media posts?' further asked the apex court. The remarks came after Singhvi argued that it would be an 'unfortunate situation' if an opposition leader cannot be allowed to raise issues of national concern in the press. The apex court agreed to examine Rahul Gandhi's plea, which raises the issue of mandatory notice to the proposed accused at the pre-cognisance stage, and sought responses from the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant in the matter. Further, the Justice Datta-led Bench granted interim relief to Rahul Gandhi against the summoning order issued by the Lucknow court. The complainant, Udai Shankar Srivastava, a retired Director from the Border Roads Organisation, alleged that Gandhi's statements were 'false and baseless', intended to 'demoralise the Indian Army' and damage national morale. Earlier in May, the Allahabad High Court had dismissed Rahul Gandhi's plea to quash the criminal defamation case, rejecting the argument that the complainant lacked the legal standing to file the case, as he was not directly named. A single-judge Bench of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi ruled that even a third party can be considered an 'aggrieved person' if they are harmed by defamatory remarks. It said, 'The trial Court has rightly arrived at the decision to summon the applicant (Gandhi) to face trial for the offence under Section 500 I.P.C. after taking into consideration all the relevant facts and circumstances of the case'. Declining to exercise its inherent powers, the Allahabad High Court observed that the trial court's summoning order dated February 11, 2025, 'did not suffer from any illegality' and refused to interfere with it. Following this, Gandhi appeared before the MP-MLA court in Lucknow and secured bail on the condition of furnishing his personal bond of Rs 20,000 with two sureties of the like amount. During his speech, Adoor expressed concern that the Rs 1.5 crore allocated for SC and ST filmmakers could be misused. 'I had earlier pointed out to the Chief Minister that this amount could lead to corruption. But no corrective action has been taken,' he said. He suggested that instead of awarding Rs 1.5 crore to a single filmmaker, it would be more effective to support three filmmakers with Rs 50 lakh each. He further said that structured training was essential before providing such financial aid. 'Those selected from the SC community should undergo at least three months of intensive training by experts to learn budgeting and basic film production skills,' he said. In a remark that drew strong reactions, Adoor said, 'Don't give funds just because someone is a woman,' though he added that several talented women filmmakers are now emerging. He criticised the current approach of allocating funds, arguing that public money collected through taxes should not be distributed arbitrarily. 'Many people believe that just by applying, they are entitled to receive money to make a film. That's a wrong notion,' he said. Several filmmakers, including Dr Biju, objected to his remarks during the session and attempted to respond, but Adoor continued his address uninterrupted. He also took a swipe at the recent protests at the K.R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, claiming that the agitation was aimed at undermining attempts to restore discipline at the institute. According to him, the protests ultimately contributed to the institution's decline. Adoor concluded by reiterating that government funding should not be directed towards commercial ventures but should promote quality cinema. His remarks have sparked backlash from sections of the film industry and civil society, with many criticising the tone and timing of his statements at a conclave aimed at shaping inclusive film policy.

It said that police needed an interpreter 'proficient in Bangladeshi national language' to translate documents for a case involving eight persons 'strongly suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in India'. 'Upon inquiry, copies of national ID cards, birth certificates, bank account details etc. were found from these suspected Bangladeshi nationals. The suspected Bangladeshi nationals were arrested and remanded in judicial custody on the order of the honorable court concerned,' the letter stated. Inspector Dutt, the Investigating Officer, wrote in the letter that the identification documents contain texts written in 'Bangladeshi' and are needed to be translated to Hindi and English. 'Now, for the investigation to proceed further, it is requested that an official translator /interpreter proficient in Bangladeshi national language may kindly be provided for the aforesaid purpose,' the letter said. 'Emphasis is laid on the fact that the requisite report would be a pivotal piece of evidence for successful prosecution of suspected Bangladeshi nationals facing trial. Expeditious disposal of this letter is desired as the same is required to be submitted before the honorable court in a timed manner. Any bills raised against the translation service shall be payable by the department and a quotation for the same may be communicated before hand,' Dutt said in the letter. Although senior police officers confirmed that the letter was sent to Banga Bhawan, an official response from Delhi Police is awaited.
