Pixel users in India may finally get Google's Call Screening feature
may soon have good news for you. According to an
Android Authority
report, the company may introduce the much-requested call screening feature to Pixel smartphone users in India. For those unaware, the company first launched Call Screening feature in 2018. It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to offer smart replies, so users can respond to common questions quickly without having to talk. Now, an APK teardown of the Phone by Google app shows that the feature may finally be introduced for the Indian market.
The publication says that it was able to spot one of the ZIP files containing the text "hi_in", which stands for Hindi (language) and India (localisation). This file might be a resource used by the Call Screening feature in the phone app on
Google Pixel smartphones
. While they were able to get the feature work, 'it seems to be a work in progress right now because it doesn't recognize Hindi speech just yet, and can only recognize English'.
Further, the report says that unlike in the US, where Call Screening works automatically, the feature in India seems to use a manual method. This means that users may need to tap a 'Screen call' button when they receive a call to start the screening, instead of the phone doing it on its own.

Meanwhile, Apple has also teased a similar feature with iOS 26. Coming later this year, call screening feature on iPhones is likely to work in tandem with Live Voicemail. The feature will enable users to screen a call as their device rings, allowing them to decide whether they want to answer a call or reject it.

IIT-Kanpur, IBM to harness AI to fight air pollution in UP
Lucknow: IIT-Kanpur's Centre of Excellence in AI for Sustainable Cities and IBM , a leading provider of global hybrid cloud and AI, have joined hands to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fight against air pollution in Uttar Pradesh . The collaboration aims to enable data-driven, localised solutions that balance economic development with environmental sustainability, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. A first-of-its-kind implementation in UP, the AI-powered solutions will support India's airshed strategy. The project is led by dean, Kotak School of Sustainability and project director of Airawat Research Foundation, IIT-K's CoE in AI for Sustainable Cities, Prof Sachchida Nand Tripathi, whose team pioneered the use of low-cost indigenous sensors. These sensors overcome the limitations of expensive imported alternatives to map pollution sources across every block in UP. This foundational work led to the development of India's first airshed-based framework for air quality management. IIT-K director Prof Manindra Agrawal said, "Today marks a powerful convergence of vision and technology.
