106 Killed During Monsoon Season In Himachal Pradesh
The heavy rains during the monsoon season has affected life and property in parts of Himachal Pradesh and has claimed 106 lives between June 20 and July 15, 2025, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Out of the total fatalities, 62 deaths have been directly attributed to rain-related calamities such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and falls, while 44 people have died in road accidents during the same period.
The SDMA's cumulative damage report indicates 62 rain-related deaths includes 15 in cloudburst incidents, 12 from falling from heights (trees/rocks), 11 due to drowning, 8 in flash floods, 5 each from electrocution and snake bites and 1 each in landslides and fire.
Forty four road accident deaths were reported across all districts, with Mandi (4), Kullu (7), and Kinnaur (5) among the most affected.
In addition to the loss of human lives, the report highlights extensive damage to property and infrastructure. Over 293 pucca and 91 kaccha houses fully damaged, nearly 850 hectares of agricultural land affected, public property losses valued at over Rs 81 crore, including roads, water supply, power infrastructure, health and education buildings.
The SDMA and district authorities have been engaged in continuous rescue and relief operations, with emergency services, NDRF, and local administration actively responding to multiple incidents across the state.
The disaster management authorities have appealed to the public to stay alert and follow safety advisories as heavy rainfall continues in various regions.

Delhi to conduct cloud seeding trials in September to curb air pollution
Delhi will witness its first cloud-seeding trial in the first two weeks of September in a bid to trigger artificial rain and reduce air pollution levels, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on trials, earlier planned for early July, were postponed after inputs from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), IIT-Kanpur, and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, indicated that weather conditions in July were not conducive for effective revised window was chosen to coincide with the retreating monsoon, which offers more suitable cloud conditions. The cloud seeding will now take place in the first and second weeks of September," the minister said, adding that "the instrumentation work on the aircraft has been completed by IIT-Kanpur, and we are fully prepared."The trials, which will be conducted using a Cessna 206-H aircraft (VT-IIT), will consist of five sorties over pollution-prone regions in north Delhi, including Rohini, Bawana, Alipur and Burari, as well as parts of adjoining Uttar Pradesh, such as Loni and the sorties, the aircraft will fly below the cloud base and release hygroscopic particles - such as sodium chloride and other aerosols - into the clouds to stimulate precipitation. This weather modification technique is aimed at inducing artificial rain that could help wash out airborne pollutants.'This is a scientific intervention to combat air pollution. Himachal: 250 roads closed due to heavy downpour; Met issues orange alert
Heavy rains have led to the closure of 250 roads in Himachal Pradesh and the local meteorological office has issued an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of the state, officials on Friday said. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said that a total of 181 roads are closed in disaster-hit Mandi, 26 in Sirmaur and 23 in Kullu district, while 61 water supply schemes and 81 power distribution transformers were affected as of Friday morning. The Met office has issued an 'orange' alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh on July 21 and 23, and 'yellow' alert, warning of heavy rains at isolated places in the state till Sunday. Light to moderate rain lashed parts of the state on Thursday evening. Jogindernagar received 40 mm of rain, Sarahan 38 mm, Jatton Barrage 28.6 mm, Kothi 28.4 mm, Shilaroo 26.4 mm, Murari Devi 26 mm, and Narkanda and Jot 23 mm each. Since the onset of monsoon on June 20 till July 17, the SEOC said that around 112 people have lost their lives, including 67 in rain-related incidents and 45 in road accidents. Around 199 people have been injured, while 35 are missing, the SEOC added. Himachal Pradesh, which has witnessed 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts and 19 landslides this monsoon, has suffered losses of over Rs 1,220 crore, said the department.
