Four Nagapattinam fishermen injured in mid-sea attack
Four fishermen from Nagapattinam district sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked mid-sea by a group of five unidentified persons, suspected to be Sri Lankan nationals, in the early hours of Thursday (June 26, 2025). The incident occurred around 20 nautical miles east of Kodiyakarai.
The four fishermen, hailing from the coastal village of Serudur, ventured into the sea on a fibre boat on Wednesday (June 25) morning.
Coastal Security Group sources said they were fishing mid-sea when a group of five unidentified persons, suspected to be from Sri Lanka, approached them on another fibre boat. The group reportedly boarded the fishermen's boat and allegedly attacked them with wooden logs, robbing them of their fishing gear, a GPS gadget, and a battery.
The injured fishermen narrated their ordeal to the Coastal Security Group on reaching the shore on Thursday morning.
One of the fishermen, M. Senthil, 42, the owner of the fibre boat, sustained an injury to the head. The three others who were injured in the attack were identified as: D. Mohan, 33, M. Arokiadas, 28, and M. Michael George, 28. The four fishermen were sent to the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital in an ambulance, the sources said.
TNCC condemns attack
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai, condemning the attack, said in a post on X that one of the fishermen, Senthil, was severely injured.
'On one hand, incidents of arrests of our fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy continue unabated. On the other, shocking episodes of attacks and looting by Sri Lankan nationals also take place. Fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who venture into the sea for their livelihood, are facing numerous challenges,' he said.
The Indian Navy must intensify its patrolling efforts along the maritime border to ensure the safety of Indian fishermen. The BJP government at the Centre should immediately initiate diplomatic measures to bring a lasting solution to the issues faced by them, he said.

Chief of agency probing crash gets X-category cover from CRPF

Under the X category, at least two commandos will guard the AAIB chief round the clock. The government is yet to issue a statement on the nature of the threat to the officer leading the probe. While probe agencies are investigating the cause of the crash, the site has already been inspected by officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guards (NSG)and the Gujarat anti-terror squad (ATS). The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) is also likely to join investigation into the crash. People aware of the matter have told HT that ICAO requested the Indian government seeking an 'observer status' for one of its investigators in the probe which is being led by the AAIB. India has approved the request with an ICAO official expected to be designated as observer within two days.

After reaching Jordan, the couple were placed in separate congested rooms for nearly three weeks without proper food and water. In the meantime, Romance died of a heart attack. Mary struggled to bring his body back home as the agent did not provide her any help. "I went through the toughest days of my life. Communication was also difficult as I did not even know the language there. We boarded the flight dreaming of a better life and to provide excellent education to our daughters. But his death shattered me completely, and the loss was something irreversible. The Indian Embassy in Jordan helped me travel back to India with his body, but I had to arrange an additional Rs 5 lakh. She said that when she requested her money back, the accused refused to provide her any. The fraud came to light only on Feb 10, 2025, after Thumba native Thomas Gabriel Pereira, 47, was shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to sneak into Israel through the Jordan border. His brother-in-law, Edison, 44, was also injured in the leg in the firing. Edison was later deported back to India by Jordan, and it was he who informed the relatives about Thomas's death. Poonthura natives Jincy, 32, her husband Norman, 35, Ajeesh, 28, Judit, 29, and Binu, 22, were also reportedly cheated by the same accused. All of them had to leave Jordan after failing to get Israeli work visas.

Ghaziabad woman files complaint against RCB pacer Yash Dayal alleging exploitation on pretext of marriage
Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Indian pacer, Yash Dayal, has been accused of exploitation on the pretext of marriage by a woman from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. The woman has lodged a complaint through the Chief Minister's online grievance portal, IGRS. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for the past five years, during which she was emotionally, mentally, and physically exploited. 'For the last five years, the complainant was in a relationship with a cricketer. The man emotionally, mentally and physically exploited her by misleading her with the promise of marriage. He introduced the complainant to his family as their daughter-in-law, which made her trust him completely,' the complaint stated. The woman further alleged that when she confronted Dayal about the alleged deception, she was subjected to physical violence and mental harassment. 'During the relationship, the complainant was made emotionally and financially dependent on him. Later, she found that the man was involved in similar relationships with other women as well,' the complaint said. She claimed to have reached out to the women's helpline number 181 on June 14, 2025, but said that the matter did not progress at the police station level. Owing to financial and social helplessness, she turned to the Chief Minister's office seeking justice. 'She has chats, screenshots, video calls, and photos etc as evidence,' it added. 'The request is to investigate this matter promptly and impartially, and to take legal action against the accused. This step is important not only for her, but also for all girls who fall victim to such relationships,' it concluded. Notably, Yash Dayal was part of RCB's historic IPL 2025 title win earlier this month, taking 13 wickets in 15 matches.
