Chhattisgarh: 22 Maoists carrying bounty of Rs 37.5 lakh surrender in Narayanpur district

His wife, also an active Maoist, surrendered alongside him. The surrendered members were active in the Kutul, Nelnar, and Indravati area committees within the Marh division of Narayanpur district.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, in a statement said, 'People now choose the path of development over the barrel of a gun.' He added that a total of 1,476 Maoists have surrendered under the current government.
Highlighting the success of the govt's renewed rehabilitation strategy, CM Sai attributed the positive shift to the Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025 and welfare-driven initiatives like the 'Niyad Nellanar' programme, which have fostered trust among locals and rebels alike.
'We are fully committed to the reintegration of these surrendered cadres into mainstream society,' the Chief Minister said, reiterating the state's and Centre's joint resolve to eradicate Naxalism completely by March 31, 2026.
Narayanpur SP Robinson Guria said, this year, a total of 132 Maoists of various ranks have laid down arms, highlighting the growing impact of the intensified anti-Naxal 'Marh Bachao' (Save Marh) campaign.
The operation is being conducted jointly by Narayanpur police, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF), and State Task Force (STF).
Each surrendered Maoist received a Rs 50,000 incentive cheque as part of the govt's new rehabilitation policy, which guarantees further benefits aimed at their reintegration into society.
SP said that among the notable ones who surrendered includesManku Kunjam alias Sukhlal Kunjam, Secretary of Kutul Area Committee, bounty Rs 8 lakh, Hidme Kunjam, Supply Team ACM, bounty Rs 5 lakh, Punna Lal alias Boti alias Santu Oyam, Nelnar Area Jan Militia Commander, bounty Rs 5 lakh and other cadres holding various leadership positions within the Janatana Sarkar and militia groups, with bounties ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh
SP Robinson Guria appealed to the Maoists to 'leave behind deceptive external influences and restore Marh to its rightful inhabitants so they can live fearless, normal lives.'

Nagpur: Many bright students, including 29 girls from underprivileged communities — scheduled castes, denotified tribes, landless labourers and minorities — could lose their opportunity to study in premier foreign universities with the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment failing to issue award letters to majority selected candidates under the govt's prestigious National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) scheme for 2025–26. The ministry has cited insufficient funds. Though 106 students were officially selected after a rigorous process in the first round, only 40 received provisional award letters. The others — many of whom hold offers from top global universities — are left in the lurch. These 106 students, including 29 girls hail from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. They gained admissions to master's and PhD programmes in universities in Singapore, Australia, USA, and the UK. The scholarship is granted for only QS-ranked institutions like Johns Hopkins, University of Cambridge, University of Leeds, University of Sydney, National University of Singapore. Provisional award letters to the remaining candidates (41-106) may be issued in due course, subject to availability of funds." However, the notification goes on to state the "candidature of selected candidates is provisional, subject to being found eligible and availability of funds during the 2025-26 fiscal. " Yogesh Taneja, undersecretary in the ministry, told TOI that the five-year budget allocated for NOS was exhausted in the last three years. "We require additional funds, and this will be arranged soon," he said. Taneja mentioned that total allocation of funds for each student varies, as per university's fee, course duration, and country's living expenses. The govt incurs expenses anywhere from Rs40 lakh to Rs 2.5 crore. To a query on why all 106 were not given provisional letters if funds were being arranged and a rider 'subject to availability of funds' put for even selected candidates, Taneja didn't respond. Rajiv Khobragade, president, The Platform for Justice & Human Rights, said, "This is the first time the central govt is short of funds for NOS. Generally, we have to pursue state govts to get scholarship funds released," he said. Though the scheme was allocated ₹130 crore this year — its highest ever — bureaucratic delays, pending clearances, and possible fund diversions have halted implementation, he said. Khobragade, who raised the issue with Union minister Ramdas Athawale, said, "Funds meant for marginalised communities are quietly diverted to other purposes such as tourism or schemes with far less impact, compared to education. How will this country develop if we continue to shift educational funds elsewhere?" In its letter, The Platform has put forward a five-point proposal. It said all selected candidates must be issued award letters even if fund release happens in phases. Formal confirmation will allow students to proceed with visa and admission processes. Temporarily reallocate unused welfare funds to support NOS scholars. Facilitate public sector bank loans with govt undertaking. Place a supplementary demand in the monsoon session of parliament to approve additional education-specific funds. Engage CSR support from PSUs and corporates.

Jivraj bizman loses Rs 18L in flight ticket scam
Ahmedabad: A 39-year-old businessman from the Jivraj Park area of the city filed a complaint of criminal breach of trust against a Mumbai agent who allegedly cheated him out of Rs 18.62 lakh by not booking flight tickets after taking money from him. The complainant registered the complaint on Friday against the agent from Mumbai. The complainant stated that he was dealing in taxi and flight ticket bookings, and in 2023, he received a WhatsApp message from the accused in Mumbai, stating that he was running a holiday company with a good facility for booking flight tickets at reasonable rates. "I requested verification of the documents for their company, and they sent copies of their Aadhaar card, PAN card, and GST registration, which built my trust. I started booking flight tickets for my customers through them, transferring booking payments to their account before each booking." During this period, a resident of Bharuch contacted him for a group booking inquiry for 26 people from Coimbatore to Mumbai and Mumbai to France (Lyon) return tickets. "Other customers also made group inquiries, and I booked a total of 60 flight tickets through the Mumbai company, transferring a total of Rs 18.62 lakh," the complaint mentions. Househelp steals cash from actress, FIR lodged
Mumbai: A 24-year-old actress lodged a complaint against her househelp for stealing lakhs of cash from her Andheri residence. An FIR has been registered for the same. The actress said in her complaint that she had hired a househelp, Sachin Kumar Chaudhari (27), in January for cooking and cleaning and he worked every day at her residence. On July 6, she had Rs 7 lakh cash in her cupboard, but found only Rs 2.5 lakh left by July 9 when she opened the drawer to send some money to her mother. Not finding the money anywhere, she confronted Chaudhari and asked him to empty his pockets, at which he grew nervous. He threw some cash on the floor and ran away. The actress later counted the money. It was Rs 50,000. She called Chaudhari and asked him to return her balance cash. He visited her but did not bring the money.
