India-UK FTA is a signpost to the future: Anand Mahindra

BENGALURU: The recent Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the UK, skillfully negotiated by both sides, is a signpost to the future, said Anand G. Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, in his letter to Tech Mahindra shareholders.
"It gives a heartening fillip to the services sector in India and will accelerate the IT industry's global growth momentum," he wrote in the letter, published in the company's annual report.
Mahindra also touched upon the growing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI). He noted that while it's tempting to view AI as a fully developed tool capable of solving problems and driving growth, it still requires thoughtful use.
"As with every gifted child, it requires care, nurture, guidance and a purposeful use of its brilliance to ensure that its potential is used productively. Used well, it can create extraordinary value, particularly for businesses like TechM (Tech Mahindra)," he said.
The annual report also detailed changes in compensation across the company, including for top leadership.

Piyush Goyal outlines top highlights of Commerce and Industry Ministry in last 10 days

New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday outlined the key highlights pertaining to his ministry in the last 10 days. In a post on X, the minister said that the productive visit to the UK marked with negotiation meetings and discussions focused on implementing the comprehensive and mutually beneficial FTA aimed at boosting bilateral trade, creating jobs, and further strengthening economic ties. He said Vanijya Bhawan celebrated its third anniversary.'The complex is rapidly becoming a hub for innovation, boosting commerce, and enhancing transparency, driving us closer to Viksit Bharat 2047,' the minister said. The Commerce and Industry Ministry held a crucial stakeholder meeting with the MSME sector on Quality Control Orders. Feedback was gathered to ensure a more collaborative and inclusive standard-setting process, emphasizing a quality mindset for global competitiveness. A key review meeting on the PLI scheme highlighted the need for quality skilled manpower and resolving infrastructure bottlenecks. The scheme is progressing across 14 key sectors, enhancing self-reliance in manufacturing.'Aimed at empowering 1 million entrepreneurs across Tier II, Tier III, and rural India, an MoU has been signed with a private digital platform. Bharat Project will leverage AI-powered tools, venture launchpads, and regional language storytelling to help scale the next generation of entrepreneurs,' the Minister said. Goyal said import restrictions have been issued on certain precious metal alloys containing gold. These are alloys of palladium, rhodium, and iridium containing more than 1 per cent gold by weight. This has been done to regulate the import of gold in the garb of chemical compounds, the minister said.'For the first time, fresh jamuns have been exported from India to the UK. The consignment has been sent from Karnataka to London, marking yet another milestone in empowering our farmers,' he added. (ANI)

A revolutionary E-SUV for the family

Meet the Mahindra XEV 9e: an electric SUV that blends size, style and smarts. Measuring 4,789 mm in length and 1,907 mm in width, it stands tall at 1,694 mm. The front end is dominated by the large LED light panel, an excellent visual. The grille is absent but the section gets a grille-like detail, which looks cool. Under the bonnet resides a large frunk which can gobble up 150 litres. In profile, the XEV 9e sure looks massive. The 20-inch wheels look great and fill up the wheel wells with ease. The sweeping roof line is also a cool element. This was first seen many years back when Mahindra showcased a coupe SUV concept based on the XUV 500. The door handles at the back have also been repositioned next to the C-pillar to ensure a smooth shoulder line. The rear section feels massive and once again is dominated by the LED light panel. The electric tailgate rises to reveal a large and flat 663-litre boot. While the boot is large enough, the loading lip is a bit high and one will have to lift the luggage up.
