Doorbell footage plea in dog fouling crackdown
East Riding of Yorkshire Council said it was stepping up efforts to tackle dog fouling and has urged people to send in doorbell videos or CCTV footage of incidents in order to issue fines.
North East Lincolnshire Council said it had issued nearly 300 fines between September 2023 and August 2024 for dog-related offences including pet owners leaving dog waste.
It said it would be rewarding those who pick up mess left by their pooch through a new scheme.
Dog mess can pass on a disease called neosporosis which can affect other animals, like cattle. It can also cause infections in humans.
Lyn Healing, an East Riding of Yorkshire councillor, said everyone needed to play a part in helping to keep areas clean.
"We know that many dog owners are responsible and conscientious members of their communities, but there are a minority responsible for antisocial behaviour and unsanitary conditions," she said.
"We highly encourage everyone to play their part in helping to keep their areas clean and to use technology such as doorbell cameras to assist the council in its work in tackling dog fouling offences."
Anyone with evidence of dog fouling incidents have been advised to get in touch with the council.
A total of 284 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £100 have been issued by North East Lincolnshire Council for dog-related offences including "having no means to pick up, dogs not on leads and dog fouling".
The authority said offenders could be prosecuted and face up to £1000 fine if they fail to pay.
It has started a "responsible dog ownership" initiative to recognise those who clean up after their pets, with people being offered the opportunity to enter a prize draw as part of the campaign.
Ron Shepherd, a North East Lincolnshire councillor, said: "Whilst there are rules that need to be enforced, it's important we reward the people who are acting in the appropriate manner."

Arrest after reports of man with knife
Police have arrested a 44-year-old man after receiving reports of a man with a knife. The West Midlands force said it was called to North Avenue in Coventry at 11:00 BST on Wednesday. Man jailed over sexual messages with decoy girls
A man who believed he was talking to young girls when he sent sexual messages online has been jailed for three years. Daniel Gibbs, 33, of Crown Close, Stowmarket, Suffolk, admitted six charges at Ipswich Crown Court, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual communication with a child. The court heard Gibbs had messaged four Facebook accounts purporting to be young girls aged between10 and 13, but which were actually run by adults acting as decoys. Judge Emma Nash said Gibbs had a "distorted attitude towards children and sex". Prosecutor Mac Brown said Gibbs had added the accounts and engaged in conversation that quickly turned sexual, where Gibbs sent images of himself and asked for photos to be sent to him. The court heard that Gibbs had asked one of the decoys, who told him she was 13, to engage in a sexual act. Judge Nash said that was the most serious offence. Gibbs had told some of the decoys he was a swimming coach, when in reality he worked at a recycling centre. He told the girls to delete the conversations as he could "get in to trouble". Gibbs was arrested on 23 April at his home and said to officers "I'm going to prison, aren't I?" He answered no comment when interviewed by police but pleaded guilty at his first crown court appearance. He had two previous convictions for sexual offences against children, committed when he was 15 years old. Defending Gibbs, his barrister Abigail Bright said that he had been "lonely and bored" but admitted he should have stopped all contact when he was told of the girls' ages. The court heard he had "no intention to meet anyone he had contacted" and was "genuinely remorseful". Judge Nash told Gibbs: "You do not consider yourself a danger to children; I disagree with you." "If these were real children, which you intended them to be, they would have been caused significant harm by you," she said. Gibbs will be placed on the sex offenders' register for life and a sexual harm prevention order was made for 20 years. Murder arrests after man stabbed to death in park
A man has died after being fatally stabbed in a park in Dewsbury. West Yorkshire Police were called to reports of disorder involving a group of males at Crow Nest Park, off Heckmondwike Road, in the Dewsbury Moor area of the town, at 20:17 BST on Saturday. Paramedics and an air ambulance attended the scene but the man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead a short time later. The force said three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said they had also been called to a report of disorder involving several people fighting on Pilgrim Drive at 20:11, shortly before the incident in the park. Det Ch Insp James Entwistle said: "We have launched a murder investigation after a man sadly suffered fatal injuries while being attacked with a bladed article in Crow Nest Park. "We believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to members of the public. "I would like to appeal to anyone who was in Crow Nest Park or around Pilgrim Drive or Pilgrim Crescent who may have seen anything that could assist with our enquiries to please come forward." He added there were currently extra police patrols in the area, as well as several detectives investigating the scene.
