Kim Woo-min wins bronze in men's 400m freestyle at worlds
Kim clocked 3:42.60 in the 400m freestyle final at the World Aquatics Championships Arena in Singapore, finishing 0.25 second behind the gold medalist, Lukas Martens of Germany (3:42.35).
Kim had won his first career world title at last year's competition in Doha.
Samuel Short of Australia, the 2023 world champion, finished with the silver medal this time at 3:42.37.
Short, Martens and Kim had ranked 1-2-3 in the heats held earlier Sunday.
Swimming in Lane 3, Kim had the fastest reaction time at 0.61 second, while Martens, the world record holder, was tied for the slowest off the blocks at 0.70 second.
But the German swimmer hit the 100m mark first at 51.95 seconds, with Kim trailing him in third place at 52.77. Short was sandwiched between the two at 52.46.
And it stayed Martens-Short-Kim at the halfway point. Short was briefly in the lead at the 300m mark, but Martens nipped him by 0.02 second at the finish.
Of the three medalists, Kim had the fastest split over the final 50m at 27.62 seconds, but it wasn't enough to help him get to the top of the podium for the second straight year.
Kim, 23, has joined Park Tae-hwan as the only South Korean swimmers to win multiple world championships medals in the men's 400m freestyle. Park won gold medals in 2007 and 2011.
Park still owns the national record with 3:41.53. Kim's personal best is 3:42.42. (Yonhap)

KBO-leading Hanwha Eagles acquire all-time hits king Son Ah-seop
The best team in South Korean baseball this season acquired the league's all-time hits leader Thursday. The Hanwha Eagles said they traded for NC Dinos outfielder Son Ah-seop in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2026 Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) draft and 300 million won ($215,000) in cash. "He has been a consistent force throughout his career with his great work ethic and discipline," the Eagles said. "We expect him to serve as an exemplary role model for our young players." The Dinos are also in the postseason hunt. They ranked eighth at 44-45-5 but were only one game out of the fifth and final postseason spot prior to Thursday's games. Dinos general manager Lim Sun-nam said getting a draft pick in exchange for Son was "a strategic decision" to solidify the team's prospect base. "It was not an easy call to send away Son Ah-seop, who has been a key part of our team," Lim added. Yamal, Lewandowski starting Barca's preseason match in Seoul
Teen sensation Lamine Yamal and seasoned veteran Robert Lewandowski will start for FC Barcelona in their preseason match in Seoul on Thursday. Hwang Sun-woo finishes 4th in men's 200m freestyle at swimming worlds
South Korean swimmer Hwang Sun-woo finished fourth in the men's 200-meter freestyle at the world championships in Singapore on Tuesday, coming up short of his fourth consecutive medal in his main event. Hwang hit the pad in 1:44.72 to miss out on the podium at the World Aquatics Championships at the World Aquatics Championships Arena in Singapore. David Popovici of Romania, the 2022 champ, won his second career world title in 1:43.53, and Luke Hobson of the United States took the silver in 1:43.84. Tatsuya Murasa, an 18-year-old from Japan, beat Hwang for the bronze medal by clocking 1:44.54. Hwang, swimming in Lane 5 as the second-fastest qualifier from the semifinals, had the second-fastest reaction time with 0.62 second, just behind Murasa's 0.60. At the halfway point, Hobson was in the lead at 50.07 seconds, followed by Popovici (50.58) and Hwang (50.76). Murasa, who touched the 100m mark in 51.07 seconds, moved ahead of Hwang at the 150m mark and then covered the final 50m in 26.66 seconds to hold off the South Korean by 0.18 at the end.
