2026 Discovery Sport showcased, gets a new variant and two new editions

Mint12-06-2025
Land Rover has refreshed the Discovery Sport line-up for 2025, introducing two new variants, Metropolitan and Landmark, alongside design and feature updates across the range. The changes aim to improve the practicality and appeal of the brand's SUV without straying from its core identity as a family-focused and versatile vehicle. The order books have been opened for the Discovery Sport in the UK at £45,440 (equivalent to ₹ 52.70 lakh); however, a confirmed India launch date is still awaited.
In India, the Discovery Sport contends directly with rivals such as the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
Additionally, a new Dynamic S trim of the SUV now features revised exterior detailing, new alloy wheel designs, and streamlined option packs. These packs are meant to simplify customisation for buyers, with the model continuing to offer up to seven seats and a configurable interior that supports 24 different layouts. The boot space remains generous, with a capacity of up to 1,794 litres depending on seat configuration.
The Metropolitan edition, now the top-spec variant in the Discovery Sport line-up, incorporates a number of cosmetic and feature upgrades. Externally, it is marked by Atlas Silver accents, 20-inch Diamond Turned alloy wheels, and subtle design tweaks. Inside, it includes Windsor Leather upholstery, 14-way adjustable heated and cooled seats, and additional tech such as a ClearSight Rear View Mirror and Cabin Air Purification Plus. A Meridian surround sound system is also included.
These additions reflect similar upgrades previously seen in the full-size Discovery Metropolitan edition and aim to provide a more premium experience within the compact SUV space.
The Landmark edition references Land Rover's heritage with the reintroduction of the mountain range logo, first seen on the original 1989 Discovery. The logo appears on treadplates and as a puddle light projection. Alongside this nod to history, the Landmark trim adds practical features such as a panoramic roof, Click & Go media holders, roof rails and a Surround View Camera to support everyday usability.
All variants now include standard equipment such as a digital instrument cluster, steering-mounted paddle shifters, and an 11.4-inch curved touchscreen running the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system. This system features shortcuts for common tasks and supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly.
The new Dynamic S variant also introduces a sportier look with 'Gloss Black' accents on the grille, wheel arches, and lower bumpers.
The Discovery Sport continues to offer a mix of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and mild hybrid petrol and diesel engines. The PHEV variant has a claimed electric-only range of up to 61 km and supports DC fast charging, allowing it to recharge from 0 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. The mild hybrid system assists with start-stop functionality and aims to improve urban drivability and fuel efficiency.
Land Rover has also expanded its accessory pack offerings with new themed options such as Beach Days, Road Trip, and Snow Days, designed for specific lifestyle needs. These join existing packs geared toward biking and pet owners.

Lewis Hamilton told to QUIT Formula 1 ‘immediately'; F1 legend says ‘he would be cheating himself if he goes on'

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton has been asked to quit Formula 1 (F1) with immediate effect by Bernie Ecclestone before "anything bad happens." The advice for Hamilton came after the Briton's lackluster performance's in the ongoing season, the latest being his 12th place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Although Hamilton indicated that he would probably return at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31 after a brief summer break, Ecclestone, who is known as the godfather of F1, doesn't want the Briton to continue further. 'Lewis is very talented, was and probably still is. But like a lot of leading sports personalities when they reach the top, there is only one way to go, and it's not a good direction. It's only down,' Ecclestone was quoted as saying to Mail Online from Portugal. "Lewis is tired. He's been doing what he is doing forever. He needs a rest from it for good, a total reset to do something completely different. He may not think it but he will soon get used to doing other stuff away from motor racing in retirement. "I think he should have done it a while ago. The guy is not a cheat. But he would be cheating himself if he goes on. He should stop now. If I were looking after him I would negotiate with Ferrari immediately and say, 'If you have someone to replace Lewis, he'll step aside.'' added Ecclestone. Hamilton joined Ferrari from Mercedes on a three-year deal worth £60 million per annum. But ever since his move, Hamilton is without a single podium finish in 14 attempts. However, Hamilton's former Mercedes boss Toto Wolff want the 40-year-olf to continue. "Lewis has unfinished business in Formula One," said Wolff. "In the same way Mercedes underperformed in the latest set of regulations since 2022, it hit him. Maybe it is linked to driving style. So he shouldn't go anywhere next year. 'It's brand new cars, which will be completely different to drive, and new power units, so it is absolutely on for Lewis in 2026, and hopefully for many more years. 'If he has confidence in the car, there is no reason he cannot win an eighth world title,' added Wolff.

Mercedes-Benz Announces 'Biggest Product Launch Program In History'

Mercedes-Benz is planning to launch a swarm of cars in the next two years, covering various segments in the global market. As per Motor1's report, the German brand has revealed the information in a document prepared for investors, claiming to have "the biggest product launch program in the history of Mercedes-Benz." Specifically, the automaker has around 18 models planned for the market in the next year, of which two have been unveiled already. Diving deeper into the details, the brand has classified the launches in Entry, Core, and Top-End categories. As for models, there will be a new ICE vehicle in the "Entry" segment by next year, followed by the launch of two EVs. These are likely the next-generation GLA and GLB compact crossovers. Meanwhile, in the "Core" class, the brand seems to have a C-Class and GLC with mid-cycle facelifts for both ICE and electric variants. The "Top End" category of the Mercedes-Benz has four ICE vehicles along with five EVs. This list includes the S-Class and the EQS facelift. It is to be noted that the brand had already promised that the S-Class would get a major upgrade with the facelift. This was backed by the statement from CEO Ola Kallenius, claiming to have invested a lot more in the model update than they normally do. The product roadmap mainly focuses on updates and next-generation vehicles, but there will be new additions to the lineup as well. In addition to the already announced electric CLA and CLA Shooting Brake, along with the forthcoming C-Class EV, Mercedes has also confirmed the development of electric variants of the next-generation GLA and GLB. Meanwhile, "Little G," a smaller version of the G-Wagen, is also in the works. Mercedes' AMG division is also quite active, launching its first fully electric vehicles. The GT XX concept serves as a preview for an electric super sedan, which will be followed by an SUV from the same family. Additionally, a new combustion engine is under development. This new large-displacement engine is expected to be ready by 2027.
