PDRM targets AI-edited gambling content
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said gambling cases currently often involve influencers and are promoted through images.
While the police have not yet received any reports of artists being edited into such videos with the help of AI, Razarudin affirmed that investigations will be carried out and urged victims of these syndicates to lodge a police report.
'For the record, a total of 28 investigation papers under Op Dadu have been opened, involving the arrests of influencers in the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor contingents in 2024.
'Out of those investigation papers, 18 have been charged, while 10 are still under investigation,' he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
He added that the police have blocked gambling websites from 2021 to 2024.
Meanwhile, 7,800 raids targeting gambling syndicates have been conducted from 2024 until this year, resulting in 9,460 arrests.
'The use of advanced technology with high security levels is among the challenges faced by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in providing evidence when suspects are charged in court, particularly in gambling cases involving Online Gambling (Judi Dalam Talian - JOL),' Razarudin was also quoted as saying.
Furthermore, he stated that the absence of the term 'online gambling' in Malaysia's existing legislation presents difficulties for law enforcement, with such cases often being challenged in court.
'Outdated legal provisions that have not been amended since 1953 — with penalties that remain low and affordable for syndicates — pose a challenge for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
PDRM issues a stern warning to individuals involved in online gambling activities that legal action will be taken without compromise.
Syndicates and members of the public involved in these activities can face severe punishment, including fines and imprisonment,' he added.

He said the museum's official opening will be held later, giving the public an opportunity to explore the history and development of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the state. 'Although the museum is not yet 100 per cent complete, I'm pleased to report that under the supervision of the Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), Datuk Azhar Hamin, along with the museum's curator, progress has been smooth. 'God willing, it will be fully completed in the near future and we will announce visiting hours for the public once everything is ready,' he said. Jauteh was speaking to reporters after attending the state-level Warriors' Day 2025 celebration at the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here on Thursday. In conjunction with the celebration, Head of State Tun Musa Aman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor also toured the museum exhibition area. Jauteh said the visit drew strong interest from the dignitaries in attendance. 'The visit caught the attention of the Head of State, the Chief Minister, and other invited guests. We will determine the official opening date once all preparations and installations are completed as planned,' he added. Meanwhile, Jauteh said about 700 personnel from the PDRM, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) participated in the Warriors' Day celebration. 'This year, PDRM was given the honour of co-chairing the event with DBKK, and we are thankful everything went smoothly. 'Activities went according to plan, including the Tanduo Pentomin performance. Sepanggar MP rejects claim linking wife to Zara Qairina's death, calls it baseless
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has firmly denied claims linking his wife to the recent death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir, calling the allegation baseless and unbecoming of a Muslim lawmaker. He was responding to remarks made by Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan during a Dewan Rakyat debate, which Mustapha said were misleading and unfairly targeted someone no longer in public service. 'These claims not only confuse the public, but also damage the reputation of an individual who retired from government service months ago,' he said in a statement today. Mustapha, who is also deputy minister of higher education, clarified that his wife, Datin Rosnih Nasir, was formerly the principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan in Papar. She served at the school from March 20 to November 22, 2024 before retiring from the education sector. 'Since then, she has had no involvement in the school's administration or operations,' he added. He stressed that the incident involving Zara Qairina occurred on July 16 to 17, 2025, nearly eight months after his wife's retirement. 'Linking her to the incident is baseless and amounts to political manipulation,' he said. He urged all parties to verify information before making public accusations and not to exploit the tragedy for political purposes. 'Respect the ongoing investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and stop spreading false claims that can harm the reputation and emotional wellbeing of innocent individuals,' he said. Mustapha also offered his condolences to Zara Qairina's family, expressing hopes that justice would be served. Earlier, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said investigations were ongoing into the death of a female student at a school in Papar. The Form One student was believed to have fallen from the third floor of her hostel building. Zara Qairina was found critically injured around 3am on July 16 and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for treatment, where she later died.

Durian farmer caught with 919kg of Musang King, D24 from protected forest
KUANTAN: A durian farmer's plan to profit from Musang King and D24 durians planted illegally in the Gunung Benum Forest Reserve was thwarted when authorities intercepted a four-wheel-drive vehicle transporting the fruit yesterday. The four-hour patrol, which ended at 7am, led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man and the seizure of 919kg of durians worth about RM5,000. Pahang Forestry Department director Zainuddin Jamaluddin said the grade C and D durians were believed to be for local markets. Investigations showed the trees were located in Compartment 91 of the Gunung Benum Forest Reserve in Raub. He said the department seized the vehicle and the durians under the National Forestry Act 1984 for encroachment and unlawful extraction of forest produce. "The man who was detained was later released on police bail after providing a statement. "The investigating officer will continue with the probe before legal action is taken for removing forest produce (durians) without authorisation," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian. Daily patrols have been conducted since July 21 following the launch of an integrated operation with the Royal Malaysia Police, the Pahang State Enforcement Unit, the General Operations Force (PGA), Rela, and the Raub District and Land Office. "Gunung Benum Forest Reserve has become a site for illegal cultivation of durians and other fruit trees such as mangosteen, rambutan, petai, and kantan, believed to be planted by local residents," Zainuddin said. He said the department would not compromise with those involved in illegal activities in the reserve. More than 40 forestry personnel, along with officers from other agencies, are involved in the 60-day operation. Nine areas have been identified as hotspots for illegal farming. He urged communities living near the forest reserve not to harvest or carry out activities in the area. "Forest department enforcement units constantly patrol high-risk areas within the reserves. Aside from illegal farming, there are also individuals entering the forests for recreation. Entering a forest reserve requires a permit or official permission. "We have placed numerous signboards stating that entry without authorisation is an offence. Everyone must comply to avoid facing legal action," he said.
