Sir David Beckham marks 26th wedding anniversary with sweet note

Perth Now2 days ago
Sir David Beckham marked his 26th wedding anniversary by posting a sweet note to his wife Victoria Beckham.
The former footballer exchanged vows with the Spice Girls star at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland on July 4, 1999 and David has now marked 26 years since their big day by thanking the singer-turned-fashion designer for giving him four "beautiful children" and helping him carve out their lives together.
In a post on social media, David shared snaps of their big day and wrote: "26 years today you said YES to me.
"Happy Anniversary and thank you for giving me our beautiful children and building the life that we have together. I love you Lady Beckham."
He also tagged the couple's three sons - Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20 - and added a mention for their 13-year-old daughter Harper.
The anniversary comes as David recovers from wrist surgery after going under the knife to fix complications from a injury he sustained in a football match more than 20 years ago.
A recent X-ray showed a screw that was used to patch up the problem at the time had embedded in his forearm after it didn't dissolve properly.
However, David has been recovering well and has even been gardening with his wife Victoria.
She shared a video of him checking out the cucumber haul from their garden and wrote: 'Overperforming on the cucumber front Sir David."
In the video, David is casually dressed, with his injured arm wrapped up and encased in a sling.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper of Beckham's injury: "David has been in pain for years but thought nothing of it.
"He just kept going until, in recent months, it became quite unbearable. "A routine scan showed that the pin which was meant to have dissolved, hadn't - so he was booked in to finally resolve the issue all these years later.
"Victoria was at his bedside post op and all went well. He's in great spirits."
The couple has been celebrating since David was knighted in King Charles' Birthday Honours last month for his services to sport and charity.
The sportsman declared he felt "incredibly humbled" by the accolade.
He said in a statement: 'Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour.
"To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career, and literally a boyhood dream come true."

David Corenswet wasn't offered advice by past Superman stars

Henry Cavill refused to give David Corenswet any advice about playing Superman. The 42-year-old actor portrayed the superhero in a number of movies beginning with 2013's Superman: Man of Steel, and though his successor in the DC universe looked to both Henry and Tyler Hoechlin - who played Clark Kent and his alter ego in Superman + Lois - for some tips on the role, the pair encouraged David to find his own way as the character. Speaking to Heart, David said the pair were "encouraging" but added: 'Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, 'I'm not gonna try and give you any tips.' "And I think that's a very Superman thing. Superman's not so much for giving advice or dictating how other people should be. 'They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of 'have fun with it', which I think is Superman's way of doing it too." David hopes to meet his fellow Superman stars in the future. He added: "They were very encouraging and we had a lovely experience. "I'm excited to meet them one day. It'll be great when we can all get in a room together.' David previously admitted that he found screen-testing for Superman to be an "intense" experience. The actor learned that his wife, Julia, was pregnant shortly before he screen-tested for the role, and he confessed that it was a particularly intense period of time for him. David - who landed the role of Superman in 2023 - told People: "She told me that she was pregnant two days after I found out I was going to screen test for Superman. "For the first several months of her pregnancy, as is sort of protocol, we weren't telling anybody. We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us. And that was intense. "For a period we had just each other for these two huge things. It was very close. It wasn't direct, but it was still very close. But it was just having to do two big unknown things at the same time. And they were both great things." David also felt the weight of pressure and expectation after he landed the role. The Hollywood star said: "I feel much more a sense of responsibility than a sense of accomplishment having done the role. I also know that so much in life and especially the life of an actor is up to chance and good luck, and certainly you get what you make of your situation."

Stern Idol blitzes rivals in Thackeray

Champion jumper Stern Idol defied multiple challengers to win the Thackeray Steeplechase (3450m) at Warrnambool on Sunday. Ciaron Maher-trained Stern Idol dictated the race in trademark style under jockey Steven Pateman and absorbed a 1600m assault from Leaderboard and Fabalot to win by 12 lengths. Fabalot kept the winner honest early before Leaderboard loomed large with four fences to jump but Stern Idol cleared the obstacles the better under pressure. 'He was awesome again,' Pateman said in the mounting yard interview on 'A bit of pressure early but he actually jumped his way to the front, got into rhythm. 'He jumped beautiful and that's what won him the race … too good.' Pateman sealed a Sunday jumps treble with a sixth Thackeray success. Stern Idol also delivered Maher his sixth Thackeray triumph. Earlier, Bevan Laming-trained Right Now, a $20 outsider, ploughed through the heavy track to cause a boil over in the Kevin Lafferty Hurdle (3200m) under Arron Lynch. Right Now travelled nicely midfield and moved up to control the race as $1.40 favourite Loft, previously unbeaten over hurdles, jumped the third-last flight awkwardly and lost momentum Loft fought back to clear the last and turned for home with Right Now but peaked on the run. Melanie C 'beyond gutted' to miss Mel B's wedding

Melanie C was "beyond gutted" to miss Mel B's wedding on Saturday (05.07.25). The 51-year-old pop star couldn't attend Mel and Rory McPhee's wedding at St Paul's Cathedral in London, but she still took to social media to voice her support for her Spice Girls bandmate. Melanie wrote: "So so happy for you both and beyond gutted I couldn't be there. Excited to celebrate with you really soon! Yippee!" Victoria Beckham, another of Mel's bandmates, was also absent from the wedding. However, she took to social media in support of the 50-year-old star. Victoria - who is married to soccer star David Beckham - said on Instagram: "Congratulations @officalmelb @rorymcphee on your special day! I couldn't be more excited for you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness! kisses xx (sic)" In another post, Victoria described Rory as a "very lucky man". The singer-turned-designer said: "Sending love to you @officialmelb! @rorymcphee is a very lucky man! xx (sic)" An insider has suggested that a scheduling conflict stopped Victoria from attending the ceremony. A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Victoria has long standing plans out of the country and she simply can't be there." Emma Bunton was the only Spice Girl in attendance at wedding, where she was joined by her husband Jade Jones and their son Beau, 17. Mel – who was previously married to Jimmy Gulzar between 1998 and 2000 and Stephen Belafonte from 2007 until 2016 – wore a traditional white gown, adorned with pearls, for the wedding. The couple posed for pictures on the steps of the historic venue and shared a kiss, before heading to The Shard for their wedding reception. Meanwhile, the loved-up duo previously opened up about Rory's proposal, with the groom admitting that he felt "so nervous" before popping the question. He told HELLO! Magazine: "I was so nervous, my lips were trembling. I'd spent ages writing down all these things I wanted to say, but when it came to it, I just babbled." Despite this, Mel insisted that Rory's proposal was "lovely". She shared: "It was lovely, what you said. He told me he loved me, that I was his best friend and that he wanted to be with me for the rest of our lives."
