Kota Kinabalu: This Sunday's Race 2 (Initiation) over 1,100m sandtrack is a decent field of 9 starters with All is Well marked early as favourite. First Time has demonstrated consistency and should pose a serious threat. Roxette is industrious at this level. With season leading jockey Firdaus on board, she can fight for top position. Two wins behind Firdaus, jockey Fazli D has decent chance to narrow the gap on board the promising Honey Prize. Race 3 (Class 5) over 1,000m sandtrack is the highlight race. Kokorriko, Lucky Lady II and Fight Again are expected to challenge one another. Hunter Champ is honest-type and has ability to keep pace behind the leaders and attack in the final phase.
Advertisement Diva is up-and-coming with two 'prep' runs at higher Class 5 competition and looks ready this time. Placing is within her reach. Race 4 (Class 5) over 1,000m sandtrack sees Brilliant Crystal ready to see off Tambalang's speed-kings Amoyy and Apin Apin Prince. Quality-types Cooler Than Ice and Brave Guard can be considered for minor placings. Royal Sabah Turf Club's (RSTC) Kinabalu Light is entered for Race 11 (Class 5A) over 1,600m at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday. Up against a congested field of 13 other runners, Kinabalu Light has his work cut out. This race is too close to call with Kick and Run Buddy Run at top of the list. Superbowl should find Class 5 competition less intensive and has experience to fight for first position. Chinese Dream is wily and talented type, a minor placing is within his means. Another RSTC runner Vittoria Perfetta is entered for Race 12 (Class 5B) over 1,600m. Hardworking jockey PH Seow is on board which should give Vittoria Perfetta a decent run. Top Confidence is favourite with two impressive wins and a second position in his last three runs. Forest Gold and Tigarous round up the selections. Malaysia-China Friendship Run to boost ties in Sabah

Published on: Monday, June 30, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 30, 2025 Text Size: Oh (sixth left) presenting the event poster to Zhu. Kota Kinabalu: A large-scale community running event combining sports and cultural diplomacy is set to strengthen ties between Sabah and China on July 27 with the newly appointed Chinese Consul-General pledging his full support for the initiative. The 2025 Malaysia-China Friendship Run was announced during a courtesy meeting between the Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah and His Excellency Zhu Xinglong, who recently took up his post as Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu. Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah President Dr Oh Ei Sun outlined how the event aims to enhance Malaysia-China relations through broad community participation, bringing together people from various sectors of society in a celebration of friendship and cooperation. The friendship run will go beyond athletics, featuring cultural exhibitions and performances that showcase the unique traditions of both Malaysian and Chinese cultures. The initiative represents a novel approach to diplomacy, using sports as a platform to foster mutual understanding and strengthen grassroots connections between the two nations. Oh expressed confidence that the event would help elevate cooperation between Sabah and China to new heights, particularly with the arrival of the new consul-general. The association, which has been promoting people-to-people exchanges since 2012, has previously organised cultural programs and facilitated business connections between Chinese enterprises and local small and medium enterprises in Sabah. Meanwhile, Zhu expressed his enthusiasm for the friendship run and confirmed his intention to attend the event, signaling strong diplomatic support for the community-driven initiative to boost bilateral ties. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Malaysia should prioritise local footballers: Train them to be world beaters

Published on: Monday, June 23, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 23, 2025 By: James Wong Text Size: We were at par with South Korea and Japan then, but look at the two countries now, they are miles ahead of us, while we are left struggling to beat teams even from the Asean region. Kota Kinabalu: THE Malaysian national team seems to be going through a very drastic change. Lately, the national team won with a handsome 4-0 drubbing of Vietnam. For a long while, Malaysia had found it very difficult to beat Vietnam even with some heritage players in the team. Now with the addition of naturalised players, the combination with the heritage players has given the team much more depth in quality. A clear picture was the win against Vietnam where there were nine heritage and naturalised players in the starting 11. The only locals on the list were Arif Aiman and goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi. Not forgetting on the bench, there were some more heritage and naturalised players. While we support the national team to win, the feeling of a victory is not comparable to a national team with its own local players winning. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article.
