Influencer to be charged with child sexual harassment, possession of obscene images

KUALA LUMPUR: A social media influencer will be charged in court tomorrow over a case involving non-physical sexual harassment of a child.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect is expected to be charged under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for non-physical sexual assault on a child, at the Ampang Court tomorrow.
The charge carries a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment or a maximum of RM 20,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.
"The suspect will also face a separate charge under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code for possessing obscene images on a mobile phone, which will be heard at the Selayang Court on Friday," he said.
It was reported that police detained the 22-year-old influencer for allegedly sending obscene messages to a 14-year-old and was initially ordered to be remanded from May 23.
This comes after the influencer faced public backlash after singer and fellow influencer Caprice revealed several messages allegedly of a sexual nature that were sent to the underage teenager.
In a series of posts on his Instagram feed and Stories, Caprice said he was contacted by the girl's mother, who sought his help after her daughter was allegedly sexually harassed by the influencer.
Among the screenshots shared were messages and an indecent photo allegedly sent by the influencer to the woman's daughter, supposedly to show a surgery scar.
The influencer also sent another message apologising to the girl's mother and requesting a meeting to resolve the matter.

EAIC recommends criminal charges against immigration officer over medical visa abuse

PUTRAJAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has recommended that criminal charges be filed against an Immigration Department officer for alleged abuse of power involving the issuance of medical visas to foreign nationals. In a statement, the EAIC said its Special Task Force, led by Commissioner Datuk Seri Dr Razali Ab Malik, had conducted a thorough investigation under Section 17 of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700). The investigation revealed that the officer had approved medical visit visas for foreign nationals from several countries despite being aware that the supporting documents were incomplete and failed to comply with Immigration Department Circular No. 10/2001. Razali said the task force had examined breaches in the visa approval process, including reviewing compliance with standard operating procedures, interviewing relevant witnesses, seizing documents and compiling recommendations for further action by the relevant authorities. "The EAIC found clear elements of abuse of power in the approval of these visas, which did not meet the basic procedural and documentary requirements," he said. As a result, the commission has referred its investigation findings to the Attorney-General's Chambers with a recommendation to prosecute the officer under the Penal Code (Act 574), the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), and the Passport Act 1966 (Act 150), in accordance with Paragraph 30(1)(c) of Act 700.
