Peshawar, Jun 1 (PTI) At least two people were killed in two separate explosions in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, officials said.
A blast took place at a tube well near a house in Kohat district's Darra Adam Khel town, about 35 kilometres southwest of Peshawar, killing two people, a rescue official said.
The house was completely destroyed in the explosion, the official said.
In another incident, unidentified attackers planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in an under-construction building in Bannu district, another rescue official said.
The explosion which heavily damaged the building belonging to the Rescue 1122 emergency services occurred after midnight, the official said.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident, the official said.
Bannu region police spokesperson Khanzala Quraishi said a police team responded promptly and launched a probe.
This is the second attack on a Rescue 1122 building in the last three months.
In April, a rescue department building was damaged in an explosion in Tank district.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, following the collapse of the ceasefire agreement between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
Militant attacks and counter-terrorism operations surged in March 2025, with the number of terrorist incidents crossing 100 for the first time since November 2014, a Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies report said.
Pakistan ranked second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terror-related deaths rising by 45 per cent over the past year to 1,081. PTI AYZ RD RD RD

Anti-sacrilege bill likely to tabled in Punjab Assembly

The draft bill may propose life imprisonment for sacrilege acts against religious scriptures, sources said. Ahead of the third day of the special session of the state assembly, a cabinet meeting was held here in which the anti-sacrilege bill was given nod by the council of ministers, the sources said. Chandigarh, Jul 14 (PTI) A draft bill seeking stricter punishment for acts of sacrilege is likely to be introduced in the Punjab Assembly on Monday, sources said. There may also be a provision for setting up special courts to deal with cases pertaining to desecration of scriptures. There will be no parole for those guilty of sacrilege acts, they further said. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier said the state government would seek the opinion of all stakeholders and religious bodies for the proposed legislation, indicating it would not be enacted immediately. 'We are drafting it. A law is going to be enacted. But for this, we will talk to stakeholders, religious organisations. We will present the draft legislation (in the assembly). 'But for the final draft, we will require time. After presenting it in the Vidhan Sabha, we will seek public opinion,' he had said. 'We will speak to religious bodies about how the law should be. We will take the (draft) bill to the public to seek their opinion for any amendments,' he had then said. Mann had said the government would consult leading legal experts to ensure that a robust state legislation is enacted – one that prevents offenders from evading strict consequences, including the possibility of capital punishment for such heinous crimes. Reaffirming his government's commitment to justice, Mann had stated that every person involved in these sacrilegious acts, either directly or indirectly, would face exemplary punishment. Mann had highlighted that while the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provides clear provisions regarding religious places, it remains silent on holy 'granths'. He had also said that as the subject falls under the concurrent list, the state has the authority to enact such legislation, and legal opinions would be sought accordingly. It is not the first time that a law was being brought in the state for stricter punishment for perpetrators of sacrilege acts. In 2016, the then SAD-BJP government brought in the IPC (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2016 and CrPC (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2016 recommending life sentence for sacrilege acts against Guru Granth Sahib. The Centre later returned the bill, saying all religions should be treated equally given the secular nature of the Constitution. In 2018, the Amarinder Singh government had passed two bills –the Indian Penal Code (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2018′, and 'the Code of Criminal Procedure (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2018', which stipulated a punishment of up to life imprisonment for injury, damage or sacrilege to Guru Granth Sahib, Bhagavad Gita, Quran and the Bible. However, the two Bills did not get the President's assent. Acts of sacrilege against religious scriptures has been an emotive issue in Punjab and there has been a demand from various quarters for stringent punishment for the acts of sacrilege against religious texts. The incident related to the theft of a 'bir' (copy) of Guru Ganth Sahib from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala gurdwara, putting up handwritten sacrilegious posters in Bargari and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and torn pages of the holy book found scattered at Bargari, had taken place in Bargari in Faridkot in 2015. These incidents had led to anti-sacrilege protests in Faridkot. In the police firing at anti-sacrilege protesters in October 2015, two persons were killed in Behbal Kalan while some persons were injured at Kotkapura in Faridkot. 9-year-old missing Kanwariya reunited with father

Police eventually found the boy inside a pilgrims' camp and reunited him with his father near Falauda village in the evening. The boy, who had embarked on the pilgrimage from Barkali village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, got separated from his father Babloo Kumar on the Delhi-Haridwar national highway on Sunday. Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 14 (PTI) Nine-year-old Sheersh, who was on his maiden Kanwar Yatra, thinks he encountered nothing short of a pure divine intervention. According to a statement issued by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police on Monday, acting on a child missing complaint, the police started searching for the boy and found him in a camp. Sadar Circle Officer Devwrat Bajpai told PTI, 'After they were reunited, both the child and the father were moved to tears with joy.' Babloo Kumar said he had taken Sheersh with him on Kanwar Yatra for the first time ever this year. Two days ago, they went to Haridwar to collect holy water from river Ganga. While they were returning on foot on the highway along with other kanwariyas, his son went missing. He filed a complaint with the Uttar Pradesh Police, who eventually found Sheersh at a pilgrim's camp and returned his son to him. The duo then continued their yatra to reach Barkali village. Attack on Sambhaji Brigade leader: Protest held in Latur

The protest in Latur was organised at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk at 11am by outfits like Maratha Kranti Morcha, Sambhaji Brigade, Jijau Brigade, Maratha Seva Sangh, Vir Bhagat Singh Vidyarthi Parishad, Progressive Youth Federation, Swabhimani Muslim Organization etc. Gaikwad was manhandled by activists of the Shiv Dharma Foundation on Sunday and ink was thrown him for his alleged remarks against Swami Samarth, a revered 19th century saint whose 'samadhi' is in Akkalkot. Latur, Jul 14 (PTI) Several outfits held a protest in Latur on Monday against the attack on Sambhaji Brigade leader Pravin Gaikwad a day earlier in Akkalkot in Solapur district. They said the assault was a conspiracy by communal forces against those propagating progressive thoughts. They also questioned if the attackers are linked to the BJP, an allegation that the ruling party dismissed earlier in the day. The protesters also sought the withdrawal of Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, which was recently passed by the assembly and council during the Monsoon Session, claiming it is meant to suppress the voices of intellectuals and those against the government.
