Mamelodi Sundowns star sparks transfer war amid drama
As the Betway Premiership season heats up with SuperSport United battling to avoid the drop, one man has risen above the chaos, Lebohang Maboe. Since his loan move from Mamelodi Sundowns in January, the 30-year-old midfielder has turned heads with consistent and commanding performances.
Now, multiple PSL clubs have entered the race for his signature.
Maboe's revival at SuperSport United has made him one of the most-watched players in the league. Clubs across the Premier Soccer League are now closely monitoring his situation ahead of the June transfer window.
A source confirmed that Maboe is generating serious interest but emphasized that SuperSport United remains keen to retain his services.
'Interest has always been there even before he went on loan to SuperSport United. But it's not good to mention the other PSL club at the moment because SuperSport United are with the player right now. But yes, the interest is there and we will see after the end of the season. I don't think he is going back to Sundowns,' the source revealed.
Maboe's future remains uncertain. While he hopes to return to Sundowns and fight for his place, the final decision doesn't rest with him. His current contract with the reigning champions runs until June 2026, meaning any move would require Sundowns' approval.
'He was loaned out to get more game time and he believes that he could still go back and fight for his place next season. It won't be easy but he still has a year to go on his contract as it expires in June 2026 so Sundowns have to be part of the decision no matter what happens. The interest will be directed to Sundowns,' the source added.
Maboe has played a pivotal role in SuperSport United's fight to stay in the PSL. His experience, energy, and tactical discipline have bolstered the midfield and added much-needed resilience to the squad.
Having previously starred for Maritzburg United, Maboe brings leadership and composure under pressure, qualities that have become invaluable as SuperSport scrambles for top-flight survival.
With the season winding down and clubs preparing for the off-season shuffle, Maboe's next move could shake up the PSL landscape. Whether he returns to Sundowns, commits to SuperSport, or joins a new suitor remains the burning question.
What's certain? The eyes of the league are firmly on Lebohang Maboe.
Stay tuned with The South African as Mamelodi Sundowns star sparks transfer war amid drama.
Will Maboe leave Sundowns, permanently join SuperSport or try a new adventure?

SOLD: Sale of SuperSport United confirmed
SuperSport United have officially been sold to Siwelele Football Club and are waiting for the PSL to approve the deal. This was confirmed in a statement by SuperSport International on Thursday, which added that after a closed bidding process, Siwelele were awarded the rights to purchase the Tshwane side. 'SuperSport International would like to confirm the sale of its Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, SuperSport United, to Siwelele Football Club (Pty) Ltd. 'Following a closed bidding process, Siwelele F.C was awarded the rights to purchase the three-time Premiership winners, pending approval by the PSL Executive Committee. 'The sale of the club comes as SuperSport makes strategic shifts to allow us to remain the biggest broadcaster in Africa and a leading global competitor. Shifts in the market, as well as the need to innovate in accordance with our core business, have necessitated focused direction to allow SuperSport to remain the best sports content provider on the continent and a leader in broadcast innovation,''' said SuperSport CEO, Rendani Ramovha. Siwelele chairman Calvin le John said they are happy to have won the bid to purchase the club. 'As Siwelele FC, we are privileged to have been given the responsibility of continuing with a rich winning tradition in the PSL. SuperSport and the MultiChoice Group laid an incredible 30-year platform that we wish to build upon, should we get the final vote of approval from the PSL executive committee,' Le John said. 'Out of respect for the PSL executive committee's processes, Siwelele F.C, MultiChoice and SuperSport will not be making any further statements pending the decision of the PSL.' Reports suggest that Matsatsantsa were sold for R50 million and will relocate to Bloemfontein in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season and will be called Siwelele FC. SuperSport United endured a horror 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, finishing 14th and narrowly avoiding the promotion-relegation playoffs. Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng and Saleng
Orlando Pirates seem on the brink of losing Monnapule Saleng and Relebohile Mofokeng. The former hasn't featured since December 7, while the latter continues to attract international interest, from MLS side FC Cincinnati to Egyptian giants Zamalek FC and Ah Ahly. Adding further speculation to an Orlando Pirates exit for Mofokeng is his father, who recently revealed that he wants him leave the PSL this offseason. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' he added. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Orlando Pirates have yet to mention Mofokeng's future, but Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos believes he will leave. 'Talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won't play,' said Broos. 'I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I'm a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution. 'Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that's for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that's the problem. But ok, let's hope, maybe I talked too soon about that. 'We'll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
