Police on alert for today's bandh
Jharkhand Police
are on alert across the state over Sunday's bandh call by Maoists against the death of its central committee member (CCM) Vivek alias Karam Kranti and seven others in a gunfight with the security forces in Bokaro's Luggu hills on April 21 under 'Operation Kagar'.
The bandh has been called in Jharkhand,
Bihar
, North Chattisgarh, West Bengal, and Assam.
Police sources said intelligence inputs were being collected and area domination operations held in sensitive areas. Vigil in public and strategic installations has been increased.
Inspector general (operations) Michal Raj said, "Police are on high alert to prevent violence in view of the Maoists bandh. The Maoist influence has declined significantly in the state.
They are mainly concentrated in Chaibasa-Saranda area."
Railway Police Force officials said surveillance is under way on railway properties, including tracks.
Maoist are present in Palamu, Latehar and Hazaribag-Bokaro border. Senior Maoists including politburo member Misir Besra and CCMs Asim Mandal and Anal Da are in Saranda while CCM Shahdeo is in Hazaribag-Bokaro border.

Father-in-law tips cops off about booze party daughter-in-law was attending
Surat: Dumas police busted a party at the 'Weekend Address' hotel, where liquor was allegedly being served, and arrested four men and two women, all between 23 and 25 years of age. A man had called the Surat police control room to report that his daughter-in-law was at a liquor party in Room 443 of the hotel. Dumas police then raided the room and caught the accused, in possession of a liquor bottle. Both the women arrested are artists, while the men are professionals and businessmen. All the accused were allegedly intoxicated. Police seized four glasses and a half-full liquor bottle. Investigators said the group had rented the room to celebrate Friendship Day. Police took all of them to Civil Hospital to get their blood tested for alcohol. "We learned that the informer's son is married to one of the women arrested. As the couple had certain disputes, the informer wanted to 'teach the woman a lesson'. He started following her and came to know about the said party. After he got to know about the party, he informed police," said an official. Dumas police also learned that the hotel room was rented out without compliance with the police commissioner's notification on rentals. "Of 464 rooms in the hotel, many are owned by private individuals who sign a rent agreement and sublet rooms. The person renting the room offers it to others for higher rates. As his contract is over, police will file a separate complaint against the room owner," said assistant commissioner of police Deep Vakil. — Police to question informer As the party was disrupted due to a family dispute, police are probing the incident with caution. Sources stated police are now investigating how the informer became aware of the party. "We will get a statement from the informer on how he learned about the woman being in that particular room. Was he following her or did he deploy someone to monitor her activities? This will aid the investigation," said an official.

Koraput: The Maoist-sponsored Martyrs' Week ended on Sunday without any incidence of violence being reported in the rebel-hit districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri, police said. DIG (south-western range) Kanwar Vishal Singh said that no untoward incident was reported throughout the week. "Presently, the situation is under control. However, we cannot afford to be complacent. Security forces remain on high alert to deal with any Maoist threat," he added. Celebrated annually from July 28 to August 3 by the outlawed CPI (Maoist), Martyrs Week commemorates the death of Naxalite ideologue Charu Majumdar, who died in police custody on July 28, 1972. The period is typically marked by a spike in Maoist propaganda activities, including the erection of temporary martyr pillars, cultural programmes in remote forested areas and public addresses promoting the group's ideology, particularly in tribal regions. Koraput and Nabarangpur also witnessed intensified patrolling, especially in regions close to the Chhattisgarh border. "The northern part of Nabarangpur remains a focus area for us and extra deployment has been made to thwart any Maoist movement," Singh added. Though no Maoist posters or banners related to the observance were found this year, police said that vehicles entering the region were thoroughly frisked throughout the week to prevent infiltration or arms movement. Police said that surveillance and anti-Maoist operations would continue even after the culmination of Martyrs Week. Round-the-clock monitoring and coordinated action will remain in force to ensure lasting peace in the region, the DIG said. On Sunday, a landmine explosion allegedly triggered by Maoists killed one railway employee and wounded another while they were conducting track inspection in Sundargarh district, along the Odisha-Jharkhand border, police said. Officers visit IED blast site
Rourkela: In the wake of an IED blast near Ranjra railway station in Sundargarh district, senior officials visited the site on Monday to evaluate the situation. The explosion, attributed to Maoists, took place on Sunday along the goods train route in Bimlagarh section resulting in the death of a railway employee and injuring another. This incident followed a similar landmine explosion on the same route on Saturday night, prompting authorities to halt train movements in the area. Among the officers were ADG of anti-Naxal operations Sanjib Panda, IG (Operations) Deepak Kumar, DIG (special investigation wing) Akhileswar Singh, DIG (western range) Brijesh Kumar Rai and SP (Rourkela) Nitesh Wadhwani.
