Uttam Kumar Reddy sets timelines for Mahabubnagar irrigation projects
Accompanied by Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Telangana Planning Board Vice Chairman Dr G. Chinna Reddy, and MP Dr Mallu Ravi, the Minister undertook an extensive aerial and on-ground inspection of major irrigation sites across Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts.
The tour began with the inspection of the Stage-I pumping station and the Narlapur reservoir, which holds a capacity of 6.4 tmcft. They reviewed the progress of the open canal between Narlapur and Yedula, part of Package-3 of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project.
A detailed review of the Package-3 was done and the concerned Chief Engineer and the construction agency were given a deadline of six months to complete the Package-3.
The Minister inspected the Yedula reservoir and Stage-II pumping station at Teegalapally in Kodair mandal. This segment features 10 pumps of 145 MW capacity each, with a discharge capacity of 23,000 cusecs, feeding into a 6.5 tmcft reservoir. Notably, it includes India's largest underground cavern — 30 metres wide, 415 metres long, and 90 metres deep - located 160 metres below the surface.
The Stage-III pumping station and Vattem reservoir in Vattem village of Bijinepally mandal featuring 10 pumps of 145 MW capacity each and identical discharge capacity were inspected.
Later, Mr. Reddy told the reporters that a timeline has been fixed to complete the works necessary to fill 50 tmcft of water in the Narlapur, Yedula, Vattem, and Karivena reservoirs. The Udandapur reservoir would be filled within the overall March 2026 deadline. He also directed that the Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Bheema, and Koilsagar projects must be fully completed by March 2026.
The Minister assured that two non-functional motors at Lift-I of the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme would be repaired and made operational within the next two to three months.

He said the government has stabilised administrative systems through reforms. During the review meeting, Naidu slammed the previous YSRCP government for halting Rs 180 crore worth of MGNREGS works from 2014 to 2019.

Retired IAS Officer Summoned For Questioning In Alleged Andhra Liquor Scam
Vijaywada: A retired IAS officer, Dr Rajat Bhargava, who held key positions including Special Chief Secretary for Excise, Industries, and Finance, has been summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged liquor scam during the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh. The former officer has been directed to appear for questioning at the SIT office in Vijayawada on Friday. This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing investigation into alleged large-scale irregularities in liquor procurement, distribution, and pricing under the previous government. Sources within the SIT indicate that Dr Bhargava's name surfaced during the scrutiny of official correspondence, files, and policy clearances, which are now under intense examination for facilitating an alleged liquor monopoly and causing substantial losses to the state exchequer. Investigators intend to question Dr Bhargava regarding specific government orders, administrative clearances, and his alleged role in enabling preferential treatment for certain private liquor syndicates. It is suspected that the previous regime fostered a monopoly in the liquor business, leading to artificial price inflation, restricted brand access, and suspected kickbacks involving bureaucrats and political figures. The SIT's probe has reportedly uncovered that Dr Bhargava, despite being a senior bureaucrat, may have overlooked widespread irregularities and the unchecked influence of Raj Kesireddy (A-1), the primary accused in the scam, who is believed to have effectively controlled the Excise Department. Allegations also include that distilleries without valid licences were granted supply contracts without proper objections from Dr Bhargava. Furthermore, the SIT is investigating the unauthorised appointment of a woman named Anusha to the MIS (Management Information System) division, who allegedly relayed daily liquor sales data to facilitate kickback collection, with questions raised about why Dr Bhargava did not intervene despite being aware of the misuse. This is not the first instance of high-ranking officials coming under the SIT's scrutiny in this multi-crore scam, which reportedly involved kickbacks amounting to nearly Rs 3,500 crore siphoned off over five years. The investigation, which has already seen the questioning of former excise staff and senior officials, is expected to widen further as more layers of the alleged scam unravel.

No let-up in our battle for rightful share in Krishna waters: Telangana minister Uttam
HYDERABAD: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday said that the government would persist with its legal, technical and administrative battle for Telangana's rightful share in Krishna river waters. He accused the previous BRS regime of betraying Telangana and compromising on its long-term interests, allowing large-scale water diversion by Andhra Pradesh, engineering failures and financial mismanagement. The minister made two detailed PowerPoint presentations at Praja Bhavan — one on the illegal diversion of Krishna river waters to Andhra Pradesh and the other on the disastrous consequences of shifting the originally sanctioned Dr BR Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi (PCSS) project to Medigadda under the Kaleshwaram project. The first presentation highlighted how the BRS regime, during its 10-year rule from 2014 to 2023, failed to protect Telangana's entitlement to Krishna waters and even facilitated illegal infrastructure development by Andhra Pradesh to divert water from the Srisailam reservoir. He said AP's diversion of Krishna water to outside-basin areas surged from 245.3 tmc between 2004-05 and 2014 to 1,192.44 tmc between 2014-15 and 2023-24, due to the expansion of the Muchumarri Lift Irrigation Scheme and the creation of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS). These projects increased AP's drawal capacity from the Srisailam reservoir to 11 tmc per day. The minister pointed out that these works were undertaken without clearance from the Central Water Commission (CWC) or Apex Council's approval, in clear violation of the AP Reorganisation Act. Despite being fully aware, the BRS government failed to raise objections with the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) or the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, thus compromising Telangana's rightful share. He said the previous government accepted unjust water-sharing ratios, first agreeing to a 299:512 tmc formula in 2015 and later to a 34:66 ratio in 2017-18, which continued until 2020. He alleged that the BRS government even wrote to KRMB stating that the 34:66 formula should continue 'since no other basis exists'. The Congress government, Uttam said, has now officially rejected that stance and submitted project-specific allocations to the Tribunal. These include 90 tmc for Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS), 50 tmc for Kalwakurthy LIS, 40 tmc each for Nettempadu LIS and SLBC, 20 tmc for Bhima LIS and 15 tmc for Dindi LIS.
