Man charged with murder after 11 killed in Vancouver vehicle attack

Yahoo28-04-2025
A man has been charged with multiple counts of murder after eleven people, including a five-year-old child, were killed in a vehicle attack in Vancouver.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service said that Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, has been charged with eight counts of second degree murder.
It added that more charges were possible. Investigators have ruled out terrorism as a motive and said Lo had a history of mental health issues.
Prosecutors said Lo, a resident of Vancouver, appeared in court on Sunday and remains in custody.
Vancouver Police previously said a man drove into a large group of people at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party - named after a national hero of the Philippines - near 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street at around 8.14pm local time on Saturday.
Footage posted on social media showed victims and debris strewn across a long stretch of road, with several people lying immobile on the ground.
A black Audi SUV with a crumpled front section could be seen in photos from the scene.
In a press conference on Sunday, Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Constable Steve Rai said dozens more were injured as well, some seriously, and that the number of dead could rise.
He also said the oldest victim was 65, and described the attack as "the darkest day in our city's history".
Mr Rai added that the man was arrested after initially being apprehended by bystanders.

Todd Chrisley reveals his ‘sole intent' in prison was to make employees miserable

'I was surrounded by miserable human beings,' Todd reflected about his time at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida. 'Every day, I got up and it was my sole intent to make their life even more miserable because they were there to make our lives miserable.' 9 Todd Chrisley gets candid on life behind bars. Savannah Chrisley/Youtube Julie agreed with her husband of 29 years, stating that the correctional officers are 'miserable human beings.' As Todd put it, 'They are not your friends. It's us against them.' The 'Chrisley Knows Best' alum went on to describe his mindset behind bars. 9 Todd Chrisley on the 'Unlocked' podcast. Savannah Chrisley/Youtube 'I think for me, I was always free. In my head, I was still free,' he explained. 'I did not take up residence there. I was in prison. Prison was not in me.' Todd made the most out of his time in the facility, sharing with listeners that he 'made great friends.' 'I stayed in faith. I prayed. I read my Bible. I worked out,' the patriarch continued. The disgraced college admissions coach pleaded guilty in 2019 to racketeering, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the federal government and obstruction of justice, and is serving out the rest of his 42-month sentence in Pensacola. And I meant what I said.' Singer said he wasn't scared of Todd, to which the entrepreneur replied, 'I don't need you to be afraid of me. FHP investigation temporarily shuts down southbound I-95 in Miami, causing traffic backups during heavy rain

A Florida Highway Patrol investigation has temporarily shut down southbound Interstate 95 at Northwest 8th Street in Miami late Thursday morning, causing traffic backups during heavy downpours. According to FHP, the incident under investigation originally happened just before 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, when a black Audi sedan was traveling south on I-95 in the area of NW 8th Street when it allegedly struck and killed a man who was trying to cross the roadway. FHP returned to the scene on Thursday morning, which required troopers to temporarily close I-95's southbound lanes at NW 8th Street. Troopers said motorists will be able to detour around the area by taking either State Road 836, Interstate 395 or 8th Street. FHP said the lanes are expected to reopen by 11:30 a.m. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Fleeing Police, Suspect Carjacks BMW To Keep Running

Read the full story on The Auto Wire This police chase featuring a Georgia trooper driving like a professional wheelman, a suspect carjacking a BMW, and more is gripping. It's more nerve racking and interesting than just about any movie car chase scene as a desperate suspect and a desperate trooper match starts with the trooper trying to pull over a crappy car (a Nissan Sentra?) for a traffic violation. The thing is beat up, has a busted taillight, and it's not a great option for fleeing from police. Still, the suspect tries to run. But soon enough he pulls into a parking lot and ditches the econo-box, running away on foot and using a gun to carjack a BMW from some poor innocent bystander. As the guy tears out of the neighborhood where he took the Bimmer, cops start swarming. We can't imagine what the guy's thinking with the extreme show of force, but he keeps on driving like crazy to try getting away. He gaps the trooper by a good distance before too long, pushing the little German car for all it's worth. But the trooper keeps it together, relying on his training even though he knows in the back of his mind if he loses the armed and clearly dangerous man, some innocent person might be killed. Taking to the interstate, the suspect passes on the shoulders, thanks to fairly thick traffic. There are plenty of close calls as the speed and potential danger of the chase elevate dramatically. One close call in particular with another cruiser crossing the median makes the trooper scream in terror as he almost wrecks out. All that hard driving leads to one of the tires on the BMW blowing out. He keeps pushing the stolen car, even though he's clearly having trouble controlling it. Sadly, we don't get to see the conclusion to this chase, apparently because YouTube thought it was too much. We see him crash the BMW, but in the rest of the foot he gets out with the gun pointed at his head. Somehow, troopers are able to de-escalate the situation and take the guy into custody without further violence.
