India planning to host Olympics 2036, aim is to increase medal tally: Amit Shah
During his address after the inauguration ceremony, Shah said India will become the world's No. 1 country by 2047, marking the centenary of the nation's Independence. 'Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India is making progress by leaps and bounds in all sectors, ranging from the Chandrayaan mission to start-ups, health to education, sports to research,' he said.
Talking about the convention centre, Shah said, 'The 2.5 lakh square feet facility at Jairaj complex represents the Gujarati community's commitment to the cause. The government is also planning to organise the Olympic Games in India by 2036, and working to increase the nation's medal tally so that we secure a minimum of 10 gold medals. More plans are in the pipeline for the betterment of India's sporting future,' he added.
'Since the Gujarati society stays away from conflict and debate, it easily integrates and is accepted everywhere in the country and abroad. And the 12-year-old Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj is doing good social work,' Shah added.
The event, held at Kondhwa Budruk, was joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde,Ajit Pawar, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, BJP's Maharashtra chief Ravindra Chavan, president of Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj Nitin Desai among others.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said, 'The project that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates, that project flourishes, and this has been the history till now. The future of the Shri Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj's Jayaraj Sports and Convention Centre is also bright. No city is beautiful without a market. Gujarati society has beautified cities by establishing markets.'
Shinde praised the leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for turning challenges that stood in the way of national interest into opportunities.
Speaking on this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, 'Maharashtra's treasury is being strengthened due to Gujarati society. Gujarati society not only earns money through trade but also stands firmly with people of all castes and religions. Gujarati society has contributed to Maharashtra's progress in every way.'
The Home Minister highlighted significant security improvements achieved over the past 11 years. He spoke about the systematic elimination of Naxalism and terrorism from the country, calling these achievements proof of effective leadership at the Centre.
'Landmark decisions like the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir and the installation of Ram Lalla after more than five centuries demonstrate the government's commitment to national unity and cultural values,' said Shah.

'If someone is questioning Shinde's love for Maharashtra because of this, then the person is thinking very narrowly,' he added. 'When the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was unveiled earlier, Sharad Pawar had said, 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Karnataka'. Does this mean that Sharad Pawar loves Karnataka more than Maharashtra? Wherever we go, we say what the people there like. All leaders say the same. Now, when 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat' was said among the Gujarati community, I think there is no need to create so much ruckus over it. We are all Indians,' said Fadnavis. After reaching Mumbai in the evening, Shinde held a press conference and clarified his stand. 'It was a function organised by the Gujarati community. Amit Shah unveils Bajirao Peshwa's statue at NDA, tells cadets to emulate the warrior
Union home minister Amit Shah unveiled a statue of Bajirao Peshwa I at the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla on Friday, highlighting the legendary warrior's unmatched military achievements and timeless legacy in Indian history. The 13.5-foot-tall, 4,000-kg bronze statue has been donated to the prestigious defence institute by the Shreemath Thorle Bajirao Peshwa Pratishthan. Calling NDA the most 'fitting place' for a memorial of a brave warrior like Bajirao Peshwa who never allowed defeat to come near him throughout his life, Shah said that although many statues of him have been installed across the country, the defence academy is the most appropriate place as the future leaders of India's three armed forces are trained here. He said that if our future soldiers draw inspiration from Bajirao Peshwa and learn from his life, no one would dare to challenge India's borders for ages to come. 'This statue will continue to inspire the brave cadets of the academy to remain devoted and dedicated to their motherland,' he added. Highlighting the historical significance of the Peshwa legacy, the union home minister said, 'Had the battle for Independence started by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj not been carried forward by the Peshwas for over 100 years, India's original cultural and national identity would not have survived till today.' Also present at the ceremony were chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil, and union minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol. 'Bajirao Peshwa's life is a symbol of valour, diplomacy and vision. In his 40 years of life, he wrote a chapter of history that no one has been able to replicate,' Shah said, adding that the legacy of the great warrior will live on not just in history books but also in the spirit and determination of future military leaders trained at the NDA. During his visit, Shah also engaged in an interactive session with cadets, emphasising the importance of national security, ethical leadership, and dedication to nation-building. He urged the cadets to embrace the values of discipline, strategic foresight, and unwavering service to the country.
