Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's ‘Jai Gujarat' comment kicks up a row
Shinde was speaking in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the inauguration ceremony of the 'Jairaj Sports and Convention Centre' built by the Shree Poona Gujarati Bandhu Samaj in the Kondhwa area.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut referred to the Shinde-led Shiv Sena as 'Shah Sena' and remarked that it showed the true face of the duplicate Shiv Sena of Union Minister Amit Shah. 'It is not surprising. Shinde's Sena was born in Gujarat with Shah's blessings,' Raut said, referring to Shinde and his supporter MLAs rushing to Surat in Gujarat after they split the party in 2022.
He also posted two separate videos of Shinde on social media. 'Shah Sena! Amit Shah's-- duplicate Shiv Sena's true face was exposed today. In Pune, this man (Eknath Shinde) gave the slogan 'Jai Gujarat'! What to do? How can this man remain in the Maharashtra cabinet.'
Clyde Crasto, NCP (SP) national spokesperson, said, 'They claim to represent Marathi manoos, but lust for power. When Eknath Shinde was made the chief minister, many projects meant for Maharashtra went to Gujarat, now it is proved that Shinde worked for the benefit of Gujarat.''
Atul Londhe, state Congress chief spokesperson, said, 'A person like Shinde does not have respect for anyone. He only salutes his master (Amit Shah).''
Gopal Tiwari, Congress spokesperson, said, 'As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the sponsor for Shinde's Shiv Sena it is obvious that Shinde said 'Jai Gujarat.' The BJP leaders always disrespect Maharashtra leaders like Shivaji Maharaj and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, but the local BJP leaders do not speak about it.'
Gajanan Thurkude, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, said, 'When the Shinde government was formed each MLA allegedly got ₹50 crore. By saying 'Jai Gujarat' they are repaying this money and showing more honesty to Amit Shah.'
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also attended the event, defended Shinde's remarks and said that creating a ruckus over the issue was unnecessary.
He said that Shinde was speaking among the Gujarati community, and thus, there was no need to create a ruckus over it. 'If someone is questioning Shinde's love for Maharashtra because of this, then the person is thinking very narrowly,' he added.
'When the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was unveiled earlier, Sharad Pawar had said, 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Karnataka'. Does this mean that Sharad Pawar loves Karnataka more than Maharashtra? Wherever we go, we say what the people there like. All leaders say the same. Now, when 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat' was said among the Gujarati community, I think there is no need to create so much ruckus over it. We are all Indians,' said Fadnavis.
After reaching Mumbai in the evening, Shinde held a press conference and clarified his stand. 'It was a function organised by the Gujarati community. I said so to appreciate them as they built a sports complex in Pune which can be used by all. The Gujarati community has been living here for decades and contributed to the progress of Maharashtra,' he said.
Shinde also showed a video of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray speaking at a function in Gujarat where he too had remarked, 'Jai Gujarat'.

Earlier, a political controversy erupted after RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale questioned the legitimacy of including the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. The RSS leader had remarked that the 'forceful' insertion of the words 'socialism' and 'secular' in the Preamble during the Emergency should be reconsidered today. Reacting to the remarks, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday dared and challenged Hosabale and top leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the centre to remove the words 'secular and socialist' from the Preamble. 'Days before, I heard that some RSS person said that we should remove Secular and Socialist words from the Constitution. I challenge them - be it him, their BJP, PM Modi, or Amit Shah - no one can remove those words. This is my challenge to them. Can you dare to remove it? This is all talk,' Kharge said while addressing the gathering at the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) meeting. (ANI)

MP: Congress slams state govt alleging 'deceit' to OBC on 27pc reservation issue; CM reaffirms commitment to fulfil reservation
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress on Saturday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government over the OBC (Other Backwards Class) reservation issue, accusing former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and CM Mohan Yadav deceit the community. State Congress President Jitu Patwari alleged that the BJP government spent huge amounts of money worth crores so that the 27 per cent reservation of OBCs should not be implemented in the state. Speaking to ANI, Congress chief Patwari said, 'BJP's face has been exposed in relation to the deceit by former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and CM Mohan Yadav to the OBCs. The solicitor general cross-examined about how OBC reservation should not be implemented. The BJP spent over 50 crores, so 27 per cent reservation of OBCs should not be implemented. The BJP kept opposing the reservation from behind though saying from the front that they want to provide reservation to OBCs. This lie has been exposed,' 'We demand that the 27 per cent reservation of OBCs be implemented quickly, and around 25,000 students whose appointments are locked should get their appointments. Most importantly, the BJP's character and face of lies, misconception and hypocrisy have been exposed. They should apologise to the OBC community of the country,' the Congress leader said. He added, 'We have always demanded reservation for OBCs, now we are preparing a time-bound agitation program, which will be held at the block level, district level and at the state level. We have taken permission from Rahul Gandhi, and he will also participate in it.' On the other hand, the Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Umang Singhar said that the state government should take immediate decisions on the 27 per cent OBC reservation issue. 'I want to say to the Chief Minister that you belong to OBC; the Prime Minister belongs to OBCs. Your government came into power with votes from OBCs, but you don't talk about OBCs. If the Supreme Court is reprimanding, then why does it mean you're not ready? It is the decision of the government. The examination results of the 13 per cent of OBC students (which was increased to reach 27 per cent), which you hold, do you want students to be engaged in farming in the village and doing labour work?' Singhar said. 'The government should take immediate decisions for the OBC category. I would only say to the OBC category that they should see the promises and do the same to the BJP,' he added. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that the state government is committed to providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs and alleged that the Congress only tries to complicate it. CM Yadav said, 'Our Government is committed to providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs. The delusion spread during the Congress by writing a few lines on paper, without any preparations or any surveys about providing reservations; on the basis of it, the matter is in the court. In the commitment of 27 per cent OBC reservation, we are working to provide benefits to all the candidates. Today, with the changing times, we have resolved our pending issues like the promotion of officers. We will try to provide joining to all the students who were unable to join due to matters pending in the court. The Madhya Pradesh government is committed to providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs. The Congress only tries to complicate it and divert.' Further slamming the Congress, the Madhya Pradesh CM said that they are trying to do the same and get the credit for the caste census. 'It is like the same thing as they are trying to get the credit for the caste census. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came up with the caste census, now the Congress is claiming that they said about it. They have ruled for around 70 years, but the Congress never played any role in the caste census. Instead, in 1953, former PM, the late Jawaharlal Nehru, stopped the casted census, which had been conducted since the British period. Today, our government under the leadership of PM Modi is working for the betterment of all classes in the country,' CM Mohan Yadav said. He further highlighted that they have provided 10 per cent reservation to the people of the General category, those belonging to economically weaker sections. The public knows everything, so Congress leaders can say whatever they want to, but no one is going to trust them. (ANI)

NHAI Shimla incident unfortunate, HP Govt administration at all-time low: JP Nadda in Bilaspur
Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): The BJP national president and Union Minister JP Nadda on Saturday came down heavily on the Himachal Pradesh government, calling the current state of administration 'an all-time low,' while terming the recent incident involving Shimla (Rural) MLA Anirudh Singh and NHAI officials as 'unfortunate'. 'When the protector himself becomes the predator, how will the administration function. I am worried and hurt the way things are happening in Himachal Pradesh,' said the BJP national chief while addressing the Media in Bilaspur on Saturday. Addressing the media during his visit to Bilaspur, Nadda said he had held a detailed meeting to review ongoing National Highway projects in the state and issued directions for the future course of action. 'I have been an MLA and minister in Himachal Pradesh. Never has the administration functioned at such a low level. The recent incident involving NHAI officials in Shimla is deeply unfortunate,' he stated. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Nadda stated the Central Government was committed to accelerating infrastructure in the hill state. He stated that as per current data, 2,592 km of national highways are being developed in Himachal Pradesh. Of this, 785 km is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), 1238 km by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and 569 km by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Detailing the key road projects, he said that the roads and projects would be completed by 2026 and 2028, respectively. He said the Parwanoo-Shimla highway, with an allocation of Rs 7,667 crore, is targeted for completion by April 2027. The Kiratpur-Manali highway, worth Rs 9,452 crore, involves 28 tunnels totalling 41 km. The Sundernagar bypass has been completed; Nerchowk to Pandoh is to be completed by March 2026, while the Takoli-Kullu and Kullu-Manali stretches are already done. He said that the Shimla-Mataur highway has a budget of Rs 1,208 crore and includes 15 tunnels across 13 km. DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) are being prepared for the Shimla-Shalaghat and Bilaspur-Hamirpur roads, with the latter's DPR initiated in October 2022. The Pathankot-Mandi highway, a Rs1,088 crore project, includes 13 tunnels over 10 km. The Pinjore-Baddi-Nalagarh stretch (Rs 1,092 crore) is slated for completion by 2026. The Paraur to Paddar road is expected to be completed by 2026, and the Punjab border to Mandi stretch by 2028. Nadda said he would be writing to the Himachal Chief Minister about the state's consent and No Objection Certificate (NoC) mechanism for national highways. He pointed out that the current process, which treats NH projects as industrial entities and requires annual consent, is creating unnecessary delays and needs streamlining. On the issue of dredging in the Beas River, he said it was the primary responsibility of the state government, although the Centre was open to resolving such matters case-by-case. Referring to the Sundo-Kaza to Gramphu stretch approved in 2024, he said it was 'still awaiting forest clearance from the Himachal government.' Nadda also revealed that the Ghumarwin-Bharari-Shatalai road had been taken up under the Central Road Fund (CRF), and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had recently sanctioned Rs 151 crore for various infrastructure projects in the state. He dismissed claims that the Union government had not supported Himachal Pradesh. 'We have already given Rs 1,700 crore as disaster assistance. Rs 1,000 crore has been spent. But the state has only used 21% of the Ayushman Bharat health budget and 24% of the health support funds,' he said. He stressed the need for involving local residents and expert consultants in the preparation of DPRs and ensuring community consent for project planning. On issues related to compensation and dredging, Nadda said the Centre remained open to dialogue and resolution, but the state must take the lead. Meanwhile, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is expected to visit flood-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh shortly. Nadda said there was no communication gap between the Centre and the state BJP leadership, adding that former CM Jai Ram Thakur was monitoring the situation closely. (ANI)
