Johor exco member rubbishes ‘sabotage' claims behind delay in water repair job
Johor works, transportation, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said there was no connection between the two incidents at all.
"Macam tak ada kerja pula (It is as if we have nothing to do).
'This (the water issue) has nothing to do with the congress,' he told a press conference on the sidelines of the Johor state assembly here on Monday (May 26).
Mohamad Fazli was responding to media questions about rumours that the repair works were delayed due to the congress.
The PKR national congress, which includes the congresses for PKr Youth and Wanita PKR, were held last Friday and Saturday.
On the water disruption, he said workshops would be held soon with water operator Ranhill SAJ to establish better standard operating procedures (SOPs) to handle such crises in the future.
'We will be having the workshop in a week or two to review the existing SOPs, including the communication process with account holders.
'One of the main issues raised was the water operator's failure to inform users early on about the faulty water pumps, which led them to continue using water from their reserve tanks as usual,' he said.
Asked if action would be taken against the operator, Mohamad Fazli said only the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) had the authority to do so.
'Only SPAN can take action, as they are the regulatory body for water operators.
'They have received a report on the incident and are monitoring the situation.
'We will wait to see what they decide, whether to take action against the operator or review the existing SOPs,' he said.
Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that over 155,000 account holders affected by the disruption would receive a 15% rebate.
Onn Hafiz also apologised on behalf of the state government to all Johoreans affected by the crisis.
The water disruption, which began on Wednesday (May 21), lasted until Saturday (May 24), affecting account holders in Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru.

'There are people who will immediately exploit the situation. I see PKR suddenly becoming like … they think the political landscape will change, that it will shift the people from one situation to the other,' Jeffrey told reporters when met at the StarSabah 9th Anniversary Ceremony at Sabah International Convention Centre, Tuesday. He was asked whether he believes the people will continue to support him amid the allegations of him receiving RM1.78 million linked to the controversy. Jeffrey also claimed there are hidden hands orchestrating the controversy from behind the scenes, describing the allegations as an elaborate entrapment scheme to destroy the government. 'I can see there is this hidden hand moving around and planning all this behind the scenes. 'To me, it looks like an entrapment. I mean, why suddenly we were the last group to be suddenly involved in the scandal?' he said. He said the timing and phased nature of the revelations point to a coordinated effort to destabilise the current State Government. 'Those who have interest in destroying the government and taking over, obviously they have something to do with that. This is not new, I mean it has been happening for many years, the same game has been played and I am no longer surprised,' he said. He said that he had been contacted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) during the initial phase of investigations together with other implicated leaders. He was surprised when his name surfaced again in recent reports. 'Yes, I mean, the first round, everyone was called. So, we went to the MACC office to provide assistance. 'After that, we thought that's it because after that MACC never contacted us, never sent us letters, never. 'We thought nothing to do with us. Then suddenly, the news said this. So, we were surprised.' He also said he would lodge a police report regarding the allegations and consult with lawyers on potential legal action. Rather than weakening his political position, Jeffrey said the controversy only strengthened his resolve and political strategy. He acknowledged meeting the businessman at the centre of the controversy, Albert Tei, but that it was a routine business encounter. 'Because being a businessman they see everybody. That was how we came to know him,' he said. Asked about a photo and the date the photo was taken, Jeffrey said 'I was looking at the date, there was a date and it was on the same day or the next day after the parliamentary pre-council in Kuala Lumpur.' Jeffrey said the controversy would not derail upcoming plans, including a unity convention with PBS scheduled for July 12. Jeffrey also said StarSabah has submitted a wish list of seats for the coming election, though he acknowledged overlaps with other parties' requests. 'If possible, we hope for as many seats. But we know that there are other parties. Nik Nazmi stands firm on Cabinet resignation, cites loss of party mandate
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is standing by his decision to resign as minister of natural resources and environmental sustainability, effective July 4. He said the move was necessary as he no longer held a full mandate within PKR, adding that leadership must be grounded in trust and accountability. 'It wasn't an easy decision. I had a meaningful job, a strong team at the ministry and office, and the opportunity to work with civil society and the corporate sector. 'But being a minister can trap you in a 'bubble' — with privileges, security escorts, and protocols at every event. I believe that becoming too attached to such a lifestyle can be dangerous. 'At the end of the day, I believe that as a politician, respecting the mandate is important. Without full backing from the party, I found it difficult to continue,' he said in an episode of The Good Cast Show posted on his Instagram today. Last month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had expressed hope that Nik Nazmi would reconsider and continue serving as minister. Nik Nazmi submitted his resignation letter on May 28. It will take effect on Friday. He said he would continue to support the ministry, including his successor, in the interest of the country and the people.
