Is M. Night Shyamalan starting to film his RI movie? Film crews spotted in Warren June 18.

Yahoo5 days ago

WARREN − M. Night Shyamalan is starting filming of his supernatural romantic thriller "Remain" in Warren on Wednesday, June 18.
Or so says the owner of Stingy Alley, a bar on Main Street. In an Instagram post, the bar is inviting patrons to perhaps witness some Hollywood magic.
And, film crews were spotted in Warren on the morning of June 18. The first day of filming for the Shyamalan film started at the Coffee Depot in Warren at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets.
The Warren business posted a message on social media announcing they'd be closed on June 18th for "a private event."
The coffee shop has windows that look out on the street, forcing the film to bring in production cars that are used as set dressing. This also means that the town has to periodically shut down traffic.
Filming for the Shyamalan movie is expected to continue throughout the East Bay over the next several days.
"Remain" stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor and Ashley Walters. It is expected to be release in October 2026 by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros Loses AKIRIA Live-Action Film Rights and The Revert Back To The Publisher — GeekTyrant

After more than two decades in development limbo, Warner Bros. has officially lost the live-action rights to Akira . As reported by Deadline, the rights have now reverted back to manga publisher Kodansha, putting a hard stop (for now) on Hollywood's long-running attempts to bring the iconic 1988 anime to live-action. Tht should make some fan of the iconic franchise happy. To give some perspective, WB has held onto Akira since 2002. That's over 20 years of false starts, rotating directors, casting rumors, and deep pockets spent on development. Big names like Stephen Norrington, Albert Hughes, Jaume Collet-Serra, and Taika Waititi all circled the director's chair at different times. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way was heavily involved. There was even an $18.5 million California tax credit tied to the film. At various points, Michael Pitt, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ken Watanabe were attached, or at least close to it. Akira was directed by Katsuhiro Ôtomo, and it's a landmark anime based on Ôtomo's manga. The film follows Tetsuo, a teenager whose exposure to a secret military experiment awakens dangerous psychic powers, turning him into a city-leveling threat. His best friend Kaneda is the only one who can stop him, all against the backdrop of a decaying Neo-Tokyo. The movie's visuals and themes have influenced generations of sci-fi filmmakers, yet adapting it has proven to be a cursed endeavor. Hollywood's track record with anime adaptations is rocky at best. Paramount's 2017 Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson was a $110M misfire that earned just over $40M domestically and sparked major backlash for whitewashing. Netflix's Cowboy Bebop series, despite fan anticipation, was cancelled less than a month after it launched. Original Bebop creator Shinichirō Watanabe told Forbes he 'couldn't bear to watch' the live-action version. Akira's live-action rights reportedly cost Warner Bros. eight figures over the years. Now that they're back in Kodansha's hands, the race is apparently on again as a bidding war is already underway, though no specific parties were named. So, another studio will eventually make an attempt or several attempts to try and bring this story to life on the big screen.

Apple gets much-needed win as 'F1' speeds to big opening weekend

Apple's Formula One-inspired film went full-throttle this weekend at the domestic box office. " F1" has earned over $55 million domestically since debuting in theaters on Friday, according to Warner Bros. The sports drama, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, managed to beat out Universal Pictures' live-action remake of " How to Train Your Dragon" and Disney's " Elio" to place first at the box office. Overseas, "F1" raked in over $88 million for a total of $144 million globally. This weekend's numbers are a victory for Apple, which heavily promoted the film and its stars ahead of the premiere. iPhone users received a notification offering discounted tickets, could use Apple Maps to view the race tracks where the crew filmed, and gained access to a special version of the trailer that activated the iPhone's haptics to match the vehicle's engines onscreen. Idris briefly donned a F1 driver uniform at the 2025 Met Gala in May, while Pitt made a surprise appearance at a New York City-based Apple store this month. While Apple is one of the world's most influential tech giants, original film production is a newer division for the company, meaning it's still catching up to major studios like Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, and Walt Disney Studios. Films like "Killer of the Flower Moon" in 2023 helped bolster the studio's clout but haven't done much for its bottom line. Apple's streaming service, meanwhile, has also had some hits recently with Seth Rogen's "The Studio" and the dystopian workplace drama "Severance." It still lags far behind streamers like Netflix, however. Business Insider's Peter Kafka has wondered aloud about Apple's long-term strategy for its theatrical releases. Is it an expensive marketing play that could ultimately bolster its core business: iPhones? Or is this an effort to diversify as iPhone sales plateau? Or something else entirely? Apple's latest film came after its annual Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month. Although the company unveiled its new "Liquid Glass" software, Wall Street analysts were left underwhelmed that no "killer" AI feature was offered. After the lackluster conference, the success of "F1" will likely come as a relief to Apple insiders. "I know there's a lot of different views out there about why we're into it," Apple CEO Tim Cook told Variety earlier this month, referencing the company's movie business. "We're into it to tell great stories, and we want it to be a great business as well. That's why we're into it, just plain and simple."
