Albanese: GHF is a Trap that Violates Principles of Human Dignity and Protection

Days of Palestine21 hours ago
DaysofPal – UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, has condemned the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), calling it a deceptive framework that violates the core principles of protection and human dignity. In a press statement Thursday, Albanese warned that current aid efforts under this structure risk turning humanitarian relief into a 'sadistic trap.'
She emphasized that Gaza's siege must be broken externally, declaring:
'This is no longer a matter of political negotiation — this is about ending the violence, halting forced displacement, and stopping the annexation of East Jerusalem.'
Albanese noted that corporate profiteering from the war in Gaza is rampant. 'Some companies that should have divested from Israel instead increased their profits by 120%, reaching a staggering $70 billion,' she said, highlighting the corporate complicity in Israel's actions.
Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Albanese presented her latest report, calling for:
A global arms embargo on Israel
The severance of trade and financial ties with the occupation
Corporate accountability for contributing to genocide
She affirmed her report contains documented evidence that Israeli actions in Gaza constitute genocide, describing it as:
'One of the most brutal genocides of modern history. What Israel is doing is not a war — it is a campaign of extermination.'
Albanese added that Israel has been supplied with over 35,000 tons of explosives — six times the destructive power of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. She stressed that international law must be enforced to end this cycle.
'There is no exit from this situation except by recommitting to the standards of the International Court of Justice. The time has come for companies complicit in genocide to face consequences,' she said.
Albanese urged over a thousand international companies to immediately sever ties with Israel or be prepared to face legal and reputational repercussions. She praised Norway's KLP pension fund, which announced on Monday it would end its dealings with Oshkosh Corporation (U.S.) and Thyssenkrupp (Germany) due to their potential role in supplying military equipment used in Gaza.
Although neither company was directly named in the UN report, Albanese referenced historical precedents such as:
The IG Farben trial during the Nuremberg prosecutions
South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which held corporations accountable for apartheid-era abuses
She also invoked the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (2011), which assert that companies must avoid contributing to human rights violations and mitigate any harm caused by their operations.
In conclusion, Albanese called for sanctions, legal action, and corporate prosecution at both national and international levels, including through the International Criminal Court, to dismantle the financial infrastructure sustaining the war on Gaza.

Dozens Killed in Escalating Israeli Strikes Across Gaza Overnight

DaysofPal – From midnight Friday until dawn Saturday, the Gaza Strip endured one of its most harrowing nights in recent weeks, as relentless Israeli airstrikes, heavy bombardment, and constant drone and jet overflights turned the skies into a source of terror for families sheltering in homes, tents, and schools. Hospital sources in Gaza reported that at least 55 Palestinians were killed across multiple areas in the Strip on Friday alone, including six civilians who were waiting for humanitarian aid. Another 35 were reported killed overnight, as strikes intensified in both the north and south. The Nasser Medical Complex confirmed that six people were killed and more than ten injured in a strike on tents sheltering displaced civilians in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis. Local sources stressed that al-Mawasi had been designated by the Israeli army as a 'safe zone' and had seen mass displacement into its vicinity following Israeli evacuation orders in Khan Younis. Despite this designation, Israeli forces reportedly completed the evacuation of all residential neighborhoods in Khan Younis, sparing only small portions of al-Mawasi. Elsewhere in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of northern Gaza City, Israeli shelling hit a shelter school, wounding dozens of displaced Palestinians. Another missile struck al-Shafi'i School in Zeitoun, southeast of Gaza City, killing five civilians and injuring many others. Israeli artillery simultaneously fired on areas east of Gaza City, including the vicinity of Al-Shujaiya junction, and close to the American company aid center north of Rafah, killing nine civilians and injuring over 40 more, according to local reports. In Jabalia al-Balad, northern Gaza, disturbing images emerged showing rescue workers recovering bodies of civilians killed in an Israeli airstrike on Friday evening. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defense, said many families remain trapped under rubble in various locations, while Israeli forces continue to prevent rescue teams from accessing the affected areas. Hamas Submits Positive Response to Ceasefire Proposal, Signals Readiness for Immediate Negotiations

DaysofPal – The Hamas Movement announced on Friday evening that it had submitted its response to the latest Gaza ceasefire proposal, characterizing it as 'positive' and expressing readiness to begin immediate negotiations on implementing the plan. In a statement, Hamas confirmed it had 'completed its internal consultations with Palestinian factions and forces regarding the mediators' latest proposal to stop the aggression against our people in Gaza,' adding that the official reply had been delivered to mediators and was marked by a spirit of 'positivity.' The group emphasized its 'serious readiness to enter immediately into a round of negotiations on the mechanism for implementing this framework,' referring to the ceasefire proposal aimed at halting Israeli military operations that have persisted since October 7, 2023. Media outlets earlier reported that Hamas's response signaled general approval of the proposal's core components while requesting 'minor and formal amendments.' According to those sources, the movement also reaffirmed the need to uphold the humanitarian protocol and voiced concerns about the structure and role of the proposed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, calling for increased involvement by United Nations organizations. On the Israeli side, a government official told Channel 12 that indirect negotiations between the parties are expected to commence following Hamas's response. 'After Hamas's response, indirect talks will begin between the two sides,' the official said, noting that an Israeli delegation may travel to Doha to participate in negotiations. 'These negotiations may not take more than a day and a half,' the source added. The Israeli Cabinet is expected to address the prisoner exchange file and the current state of affairs in Gaza on Saturday, according to Israeli media. Reports indicate that a tense meeting took place on Thursday, with heated exchanges between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently facing charges at the International Criminal Court, and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. Separately, Yediot Aharonot cited an Israeli source who claimed that if an agreement is reached, the announcement could be made jointly by Netanyahu and former U.S. President Donald Trump during their scheduled meeting in Washington next Monday.
