Minister J Chinjurani presided over the inauguration ceremony, which included speeches from M Naushad MLA, Corporation Mayor Honey Benjamin, Deputy Mayor S Jayan, Collector N Devidas, City Police Commissioner Kiran Narayanan, Rural SP Sabu Mathew, ADM G Nirmal Kumar, and District Information Officer L Hemanth Kumar.
The My Kerala Exhibition and Marketing Fair featured 156 themed stalls dedicated to showcasing the government's public welfare activities and free services. Additionally, 96 other stalls offered products for display and sale from various government departments and agencies. A range of government services were available to the public at no cost throughout the fair. Visitors could also enjoy a food court organized by Kudumbashree.

Earlier that day, the Women and Child Development Department hosted a series of cultural programs. These included a group dance by Anganwadi preschool children, performances by children from welfare institutions, folk songs by Anganwadi workers, Thiruvathira, poetry recitation, hand drumming, girls' Kalaripayattu, an anti-drug dance, a performance by the Kulathupuzha Tanat Kala Sangh, and a skit highlighting the department's various initiatives.

Regarding housing and poverty eradication, the LIFE Mission housing scheme has completed 78.30 per cent of homes for eligible families, with an expected rise to 81.08 per cent soon. Kerala's efforts to eliminate extreme poverty have resulted in lifting 3,375 out of 4,461 identified families out of poverty, with a goal of reaching 97 per cent in the next quarter. Environmental and sustainability initiatives are also underway, including the Waste-Free Kerala campaign, the Haritha Kerala Mission, and the creation of green spaces.

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran distributed welfare assistance to 111 beneficiaries, based on their petitions submitted in the special camps conducted under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme in Salem, on Thursday (July 24, 2025). Under the scheme, a special camp was conducted at the Nehru Auditorium for areas that come under Ward 45 of the Salem Corporation. A camp was also conducted at the community hall in Omalur town panchayat, on Thursday. Tourism Minister inspected the two camps along with District Collector R. Brindha Devi. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Rajendran said that a total of 432 special camps, including 168 in urban areas and 264 in rural areas, are to be held under the scheme in Salem. People residing nearby are able to receive services from departments from these camps. In the camps conducted on Wednesday (July 23, 2025), a total of 2,366 petitions were received demanding to resolve issues related to various departments and 3,475 petitions were submitted by women seeking monthly assistance under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. On Thursday, camps were also conducted at Chettichavadi, Sankagiri, Periyavadagampatti, and Kuppanur in the Sankagiri panchayat union, Mr. Rajendran added. Stating that action will be taken based on the petitions submitted by the people within 45 days, the Minister said in the camp conducted at Nehru Auditorium , 102 people received property tax orders, and seven received birth certificates. At the camp held in Omalur, two persons with disabilities received hearing aid and a tri-cycle, the Minister added. During the Minister's inspection, Mayor A. Ramachandran, Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan, local body representatives, Corporation officials, and officials from departments concerned also participated.

AIADMK to protest demanding immediate opening of Palayamkottai Market inaugurated by Stalin in February
The AIADMK has announced that the party would soon organise demonstration demanding the immediate opening of the Mahatma Gandhi Market in Palayamkottai, rebuilt at a cost of ₹14.90 crore under the Centre's Smart City Mission programme, as it remains closed even after being inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on February 7. According to Thatchai N. Ganesa Raja, AIADMK's Tirunelveli district secretary, the 60-year-old market was rebuilt with 439 shops, cold storage and parking facility in the basement to generate the whopping revenue of ₹2.08 crore per annum to the Corporation. Even though this market was inaugurated by Mr. Stalin five months ago, the market still remains closed due to 'rampant corruption' in allotting the shops to the traders. 'While the traders, who had their shops in this market, demand preference in the allotment of shops, the Corporation says the shops would be assigned to those who are prepared to pay the rent fixed by the urban civic body. And, cases were filed by a few traders in the court that stalled the opening of the market. Though this interim stay has been vacated, the Corporation is in no mood to allot the shops through public auction in fair and transparent manner to the waiting applicants. So, we, in support of the waiting traders, have decided to protest demanding the immediate opening of the Palayamkottai Gandhi Market,' said Mr. Ganesa Raja. He also said the party would also organise a series of agitations if the 'Amma Unvagavam' within the Tirunelveli Corporation were not maintained well to serve quality food to the poor. 'The AIADMK funded the maintenance and operation of the 'Amma Unvagagam' during the COVID-induced lockdown. We gave the money for serving food to the poor during the pandemic. Now, the Corporation is allowing these eateries to die as it was the scheme initiated by Amma (late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa). We won't allow it to happen. If the Corporation still refuses to maintain these eateries well, the urban local body will face intense protest by the AIADMK,' Mr. Ganesa Raja warned.

No ICCs, no salary to staff: Cuttack administration tells HEIs
BHUBANESWAR: The Cuttack administration has decided to stop the salaries of all employees of colleges and higher secondary schools in the district till they submit the mandatory compliance reports on constitution of internal complaints committees (ICCs) under the POSH Act in their institutions. Principals of the colleges will also face suspension if they fail to ensure that the directive is followed. District collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said the higher educational institutions have to ensure strict compliance of the government directive on ICCs and no delay will be tolerated in this regard. Following the self-immolation incident on the FM Autonomous College campus in Balasore on July 12, the Higher Education department had on July 15 directed all colleges and universities in the state to submit compliance reports on ICCs under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, or the POSH Act, within 24 hours. The institutions were also directed to publicly display the names and contact details of ICC members for students' awareness. Subsequently, the Cuttack administration had asked for the compliance reports from principals of aided, non-aided government degree colleges and higher secondary schools and also sought details on complaints of sexual harassment made by students of the institutions so far. However, till July 21, no institution except Mahanga Women's College had submitted the report or case details following which the collector directed the additional district magistrate (ADM) and sub-collectors to withhold salaries of employees of defaulting institutions. 'Appropriate action may be taken against the head of defaulting institutions by withholding the salary of the entire establishment of the defaulting offices,' the collector's directive read. In addition, college principals were warned of suspension if complete ICC reports were not submitted within 24 hours. ADM Shibo Toppo said they have written to the heads of the institutions for the second time since July 15 seeking the ICC constitution reports, case details and action taken on such cases. There are 70 degree colleges and 131 higher secondary schools in Cuttack district. Following the warning, Cuttack City College submitted its report to the administration. There are close to 1,057 degree colleges and 17 universities in the state and till last week, nearly 500 of them had submitted the ICC compliance reports.
