'To ensure smooth tolling operations and strengthen reporting of 'loose FASTags', NHAI has further streamlined its policy for the Toll Collecting Agencies and Concessionaires to immediately report and blacklist 'loose FASTags', that are also commonly called tag-in-hand,' it said.
In view of upcoming initiatives like the annual pass system and multi-lane free flow (MLFF) tolling, it is critical to address this issue to ensure FASTag authenticity and system reliability, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said in a statement.
New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) State-owned NHAI on Friday said it has strengthened the process for reporting 'loose FASTag' for blacklisting users to ensure smooth tolling operations.
The statement said that sometimes, highway users deliberately do not fix FASTags on the windscreen of vehicles.
'Such practices pose operational challenges leading to lane congestion, generation of false chargebacks, misuse in closed-loop tolling systems, causing overall disruption of the Electronic Toll Collection framework, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users,' it said.
To ensure timely corrective measures, the statement said NHAI has provided a dedicated Email ID and has directed the toll collection agencies and concessionaires to immediately report such FASTags.
'Based on the reports received, NHAI will take immediate action to initiate blacklisting/ hotlisting of the reported FASTags,' it said. PTI BKS BKS SHW

Mercedes-Benz India to hike prices by up to 1.5% in September to offset weak rupee

Mercedes-Benz India is set to implement its third price hike of the year in September 2025, increasing prices by 1 to 1.5 per cent to counter the impact of a weakened Indian rupee against the euro, the company's MD and CEO Santosh Iyer told PTI in a recent interaction. The luxury carmaker had previously increased prices in January and again in July. Iyer attributed the latest revision to sustained currency pressure. 'There is another price hike coming up in September because of the euro. The last one month has remained at the 100 mark (₹), and that has not changed. Therefore, we will have to undertake an increase,' he said. Despite the price adjustments, Iyer noted that EMI affordability for customers has remained relatively unaffected, thanks to recent interest rate cuts. 'Around 80 per cent of our new car sales are financed. So, while the price of the car has gone up, EMIs have largely stayed stable,' he explained. The demand side On the demand front, Iyer expressed optimism, citing continued economic growth and consumer appetite for luxury vehicles. 'There is still strong demand in the market. Buyers also understand that price hikes due to currency fluctuation are beyond our control,' he added. Addressing concerns around supply chain disruptions, particularly rare-earth magnets essential for EV production, Iyer clarified that Mercedes-Benz India is not currently impacted. 'Our supply chain, managed from Stuttgart, is stable. We have sufficient stock and haven't faced any issues so far,' he said. However, Iyer tempered growth expectations for the current year, citing global headwinds. While India's overall passenger vehicle market is expanding by 2-3 per cent, the luxury segment is growing at a faster clip of 5-6 per cent. 'Growth may be flattish this year due to global geopolitical concerns, but continued momentum in automotive demand remains a positive indicator,' he concluded.

The company aims to scale this number to 35 dealerships by the end of 2025, reinforcing its commitment to building a strong local presence, PTI reports. These partnerships mark a crucial step in VinFast's strategy to establish a robust 3S (Sales, Service, and Spares) network across the country. The announcement comes ahead of the company's pre-booking launch for its electric SUV models — VF 6 and VF 7 — scheduled for July 15. Initial dealership plan The initial dealership network will span major urban centres and emerging EV hubs such as Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Cochin, Bhubaneswar, Thiruvananthapuram, Chandigarh, and Lucknow. These cities were selected based on their growing EV demand, infrastructure readiness, and market potential, the company said in a statement. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated, 'This partnership reinforces our focus on delivering an elevated EV experience backed by reliability, customer trust, and service excellence. As we prepare to bring our electric SUVs to Indian roads, we are focused on ensuring that customers across key cities have seamless access to VinFast's world-class products and support infrastructure.' Loose FASTag users to be blacklisted by NHAI, no more ‘tag-in-hand' at toll plazas. Know more

Loose FASTags will be reported and blacklisted immediately after detection. Check Offers The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is ready to take strict action against the national highway users who don't paste the FASTag stickers on the designated spot on the car windshield. The NHAI has further strengthened its policy of immediately reporting and blacklisting of loose FASTags, which is a practice commonly known as 'tag-in-hand'. The agency aims to take this step in an attempt to curb toll fraud and ease congestion at toll plazas. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in an official statement has said that this move will make the toll operations further smooth. The release also stated that in view of upcoming initiatives like the Annual Pass System and Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling, it is critical to address this issue to ensure FASTag authenticity and system reliability. With the move, the authority has further streamlined its policy for the toll collecting agencies and concessionaires to immediately report loose FASTags. Why this step? FASTags are sometimes deliberately not fixed on the windscreen of the vehicle by the owners. Such practices often pose operational challenges leading to lane congestion, generation of false chargebacks, misuse in closed-loop tolling systems, causing overall disruption of the electronic toll collection framework, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other national highway users, the release highlighted. To ensure timely corrective measures, NHAI has provided a dedicated email address and has directed the toll collection agencies and concessionaires to immediately report such loose FASTags. Based on the reports received, NHAI will take immediate action to initiate blacklisting or hotlisting of the reported FASTags. Currently, more than 98 per cent of the total vehicular population using the national highways across India use FASTag for paying toll charges. This system has revolutionised the electronic toll collection system in India. However, the loose FASTags or tag-in-hand pose a challenge to the efficiency of electronic toll collection operations. Move comes ahead of Annual Pass launch The move comes ahead of the launch of the Annual Pass for FASTag users. Earlier in June 2025, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the government has decided to introduce a FASTag-based annual pass to ensure seamless and cost-effective travel across the country's national highways. The FASTag-based Annual Pass will be priced at ₹ 3000 and valid for one year from the date of activation or for a maximum of 200 trips. It will be launched on Independence Day this year.
